You've seen cherry picked videos making you think sun diving comets affect the sun.

They don't.

Plenty of videos out there, here's one..

Wait, what? No flare??

Quite possibly you are correct or possibly not all comets produce a flare event.. Just like all bullet wounds do not cause death. Either way I am bi-cometale so I can go either way...

interesting view. I guess it could depend on where the bullet enters and what it's made off

G1 storming occuring now. Kp index of 4.
From the looks of the data from ACE, I'm thinking that it won't get much higher. Density isn't very high. Speed isn't very high. But if the Bz takes a south turn things might perk up.

SWPC still has a G3 prediction up though.

Well, it bumped up to Kp 6 for a bit. When the Bz took a south turn.
But the density has dropped a lot so that's probably then end of it.

I guess it's bad that I'm secretly rooting for a CME like the Carrington Event...

Well, well. A surprise. Even though density has fallen way off, the CME has take a very strong south turn, ramping things up. Kp index is back up to 6. Might be a nice New Year's Eve light show for our more northerly members.
