What are you listening or what you have listened today.. Did it have message, was it for fun, beat you name it.

Today i have been melancholic.. so my pick today is

SEILI (Själö) ( song by Jenni Vartiainen )

Name of the island in western Finland which was used ( under Swedish rule ) for isolating patients with leprosy and mental issues from mainland Finland and Sweden

Lyrics in English

Is on her way on the waves of Airisto (a part of the see in western Finland)
Sofia, the poor ragged girl
When she looks behind her back there still is
a well-known way which takes home

Through the gloomy water
The boat floats so silently to the island sequestered
Through the gloomy water
floats so silently
(Patients) be rowed to Seili
(Patients ) be rowed to Seili

Soon destination looms in front of you
There’s the island of the doomed
If someone ends to Seili there will he stay
They row the weak ones to death

Through the gloomy water
The boat floats so silently to the island sequestered
Through the gloomy water
floats so silently
(Patients) be rowed to Seili
(Patients) be rowed to Seili

With nails and board you bring
you’ll make the last resting place of them
There’s hundreds of graves in Seili
And hundreds will be dug

What made Själö such a dreaded place was that the trip to Själö essentially was a one-way trip.
Legend has it that you needed to bring wood and nails for your own coffin when you arrived.
Even though the island is not very far from the mainland, the island ended up being almost totally isolated and hence also its inmates became totally cut off from the rest of society and in the 20th century Finland almost collectively “forgot” that Själö even existed.

I always liked this . It's a cover of an old Elvis song, but I think Dwight does it better.
It definitely has a message. If you can't trust the person you're with, it's not going to work.

I've been listening to VNV Nation this morning... I usually listen to them when I'm feeling a bit down, and the bitter-sweetness of their music somehow always manages to lift my spirits.

The best is yet to come MGS series.

Sung by an Irish lady in their Gallic tongue.
I listen to it because it helps me imagine drudging through the snow of some mountain cliff. While the song respects the cold it also keeps me warm. Something like that.

Kind Regards
