I always laughed when I hear religious people screaming "religious freedom", the same people that reject other religions especially if they want to also display their religious art in public. That is what Satanism is about. The Connie Chung report on a Satanism group last night was very interesting. They don't sacrifice, drink blood or worship the devil. LOL "the devil" that's so funny to me. They are basically using this to challenge the freedom of religion and government sponsor of religion. They also fundraise as well as document and expose how religion in government can misguide pregnant women relating to their abortion options through gov funded clinics as one example. I am not sure why they use satanic art and idols to prove their point , I guess they cant find anything else to make such a statement. The followers were mainly ecumenical and see a different version of Satan than most main stream religious people do. They didn't seem to believe in hell and demons but the idolatry and symbolism of satan. I think that most people have a different version of Satan or the origins of that myth, people educated in religious history usually have a very different opinion as I do as well. I am sure there are real groups that sacrifice and all that but I think that may be for show. Personally I would use an alien or a Sumerian tablet character and make my own religion, something like ancient astronauts but not called that. Satan would be just too generic for me and people could never get past the "devil worship" aspect to actually get the point of why they exist..

I feel compelled to point out that Lisa Ling is almost 30 years younger than Connie Chung and is in fact the woman that did the show in question.

Pardon me for not reading your post, but there are different forms of Satanism. Some follow a deity, while some don't (like mainstream satanism).

They all usually revolve around the same practices and ideals though.

Edit: also for anyone else... Don't confuse cults with an actual religion. Look at ISIS, look at the Jonestown massacre, etc.

There are groups that believe in the actual entity "satan" but its not the majority of "Satanists"

Its more about materialism, and the self...doing what feels good... and making a mockery of Christianity

So ya... They usually don't believe in Satan, or anything else in that realm of thought

He is real
I have seen him
I am a greater believer in him
Then his own worshippers
And I know what God wants him to do
Take as many souls with you

But he will not prevail against the church of Jesus Christ

If you mean the Satanism that was based around the ideologies of Anton LaVey, then it is common knowledge that they do not believe in a literal devil.

From my experience, concern about "devil worshiping" is mostly found in the USA and Africa (read the Nigerian news, you'll hear plenty about people being attacked and/or killed for alleged "witchcraft"). I almost never hear about it in Russia or Australia, news and stories and people being worried about Satanism etc is almost always from the USA or Africa. I think this is because you have a large Christian population, not only that but Christian Americans are more likely to be more devout and vocal in their beliefs.

As for Satanism, there are various forms of it. Some people do go around performing rituals and chanting incantations and all that, but they're unlikely to identify themselves as Satanists, as Satan is a Christian concept. It's a bit of a misnomer. It also seems like a word that is thrown around a lot. The only people I've ever heard use the term "antichrist" have been American (that's not to say that other Westerners etc use the term and have such beliefs, but it is definitely more common in the USA).

Also, some people with little understanding will call people "Satanists" when they're really not. Some people might call me some sort of devil worshiper, because of my history of experimenting with Paganism and such, as well as research into the Goetic "demons", but I have never venerated Satan, and never will, and I don't actually believe in Satan. But there are people out there who basically think that all forms of Paganism and Pagan-influenced things are the work of Satan, and thus all people who are involved with such things are "Satanists". Do you see my point? The word is often used as a blanket term, when in reality, very very very few people actually sacrifice animals or whatever to Satan (if they do make a sacrifice it's extremely unlikely to be for Satan).

Incorrect. Some Satanists do:

Theistic Satanism (also known as traditional Satanism or spiritual Satanism) is the belief that Satan is a supernatural being or force that individuals may contact and supplicate to,[1][2] and represents loosely affiliated or independent groups and cabals which hold such a belief. Another characteristic of Theistic Satanism include the use of ceremonial magic.[3]

Not to cause any trouble, but less of blood sacrifice but the other two can be applied to virtually all major religions, someone somewhere is always going to be evil but claim that their belief justifies it or a "god" will understand.

So, what about priests buggering young boys? What about underage marriages in the middle east and Africa?

Most Satanists who claim to partake in Blood Sacrifice and Ritualistic rape are plain lying to get a rise out of people. BUT lets say that Satanisim was a worship of Satan.... which version?

The fallen star?
The beautiful one?
The Jailor of the damned?
One of Gods trusted?

Seriously, people need to read more into real religion instead of stuff they have seen in bad TV shows and on the news.

What's the difference exactly???

As far as I can tell it's either Wealth or Number of followers or both that is the only difference.

Oh wait, no scratch that, they are the same after all. I almost forgot about Scientology.

Hail Satan.

Satanists Do Not Beleive In the Devil

Not believing in the devil never once stopped anyone from splitting hell wide open.

The fact that they DON'T believe in him only confirms the fact that he owns them lock, stock, and barrel...

Ya, so wouldn't that mean not believing in God puts you under his ownership for the same reason???

You don't have to answer since you'll just be making that up too.

Theistic Satanists believe or claim to believe in the devil.
The Satanic Temple that is getting a lot of press of late is basically Humanism, no deity believed in, with a strong focus on starting dialogue about religious freedoms and how they apply.
LaVeyan Satanism is basically materialism and libertarianism mixed with theatrics.

These statements do not scratch the surface, but will do for now.

The real important part of this is that nobody really gives a damn, Atheists/nonreligious do not tend to care, nor form an opinion on it.
A Satanist of any type does not care a great deal, as they already know.
Strongly Christian people often care, and sometimes learn, others care as it validates their beliefs, but like any group, be it scientist, Christian, Satanist, Flat earther, all are open to confirmation bias.

Just as a Christian will never convince a none-theistic Satanist that they are doing the work of the biblical devil, a Christian will not be convinced that a none-theistic Satanist does not believe in Satan/is evil.

Evidence shown in posts all over ATS

Christians eat the body of christ and drink his blood. That's pretty evil, if you ask me. Even if it is symbolic, it is still a ritual.

The rest I agree with though !

It's true, but the point of the op is satanists. We can't compare other religions when they're all based on a humans interpretation.

Actually, the most respectable satanists are humanist. They place humanity above God.

How can you be an atheist satanist? That's like being an atheist Sikh/Christian/Muslim/Jew/faith of your choice.
