The iMac is a pc.

You won't be able to use it as a monitor.

Why don't you just upgrade the operating system to the latest version?

I have an iMac here at home. it's an Early 2008 with a 2.4ghz core 2 duo and 4 gigs of ram. I haven't done it yet. But I'm almost at the point of upgrading it to 6 gigs of ram. But you need a 2gig and 4 gig ram chip to do so.

What iMac do you have?

How much ram does it have. You'll need at least 4 gigs of ram in order to upgrade.

I was able to upgrade my 2008 to a newer OS X version. However it required looking online for a newer version of OS X that supported the app store. And from there I was able to upgrade to 10.9.5.

Right. You don't have the app store. you need the next version.

You will have to purchase snow leopard. Or somehow get your hands on it in other ways. But I won't go into that here.

This thread goes through the concepts of upgrading to a later version.

Now if you do manage to find the iso for OS X 10.6 online somewhere.
here are the steps to put it on a usb drive and install it.

You should be able to upgrade without formating your drive. I know I did.

I doubt upgrading the software will make it faster unless you upgrade the hardware as well. i.e. memory, HDD. a reply to: rajas

I'm gonna upgrade the RAM to 16 I'm missing a disc for leopard hoped a boot usb would work it didn't, I won't use it for other things that AI, PS and micrsoft office. I got my high end PC for gaming.

The IMac was from a relative who couldn't get it to work admin account lock, so I unlocked it.

They bought a new iMac so they were gonna throw it

Do some research.

iMacs of that time only can have so much ram.

At best you might be able to install 8gb.

Use this site to see how much ram you can install.
