What you miss watching the show, is that it's more than just an hour a week...there's some serious work going on there, day in - day out!

Looks like they're building a partial caisson. Man, that's gotta be expensive.
Yah, they built a cofferdam to expose the finger drains at Smith's Cove. And yes, they're throwing tons of money at the project, but the show is generating a bunch, too. I don't think anybody is going to go broke over this project. Cast and crew are also injecting a pile of dough into the local economy. Never mind the tourist dollars!

So the real Oak Island treasure was... friendship.

From what I'm told, everybody works hard and they all get along well. We met up with one cast member who runs a boat tour around the island, and had dinner with another. Nice folks. And as I've said...I got a treasure map of the island from a box of Shreddies back in the 60s, so I know it's for real!

How so? If you don't want to watch it...don't.

That is because it is so very interesting, and it is extremely well managed.
Additionally, because they have uncovered so much evidence, it has become historically significant.

I find it amusing, I call it "The Curs of Hoax Island".

they do find a lot of weird stuff, for a while I thought Gary was just planting things and then "finding" them later but there are some sort of odd structures in the cove, if in fact they find five stone flood tunnels lined with coconut husks leading to the treasure then that would be interesting. I think if there was a treasure that former slave who suddenly became wealthy and bought most of the island probably found it and spent it on buying the island.

I've taken to just DVRing it and then fast-forwarding to the disappointing ending,
"stay tuned next week to find out of the Canadian drilling union strike ends"

What are you suggesting?? That coconuts migrate?! Check it out, he’s suggesting that coconuts migrate!!

All kidding aside, the fiber mats are interesting and nobody seems to try and understand why/how they got there. They are “over 100 years old” so why not retest them?!

Then, how did FMs/KT, vacationing in Cuba, take a hoard of gold, bury it in Canadia, 20 feet deep, and no modern piece of equipment (gravmometer, neutron detectors, cosmic ray detectors, etc), cannot “find it”??

Well, since the Big Bang Theory went off the air and Supergirl hasn’t started, and MNF still sux... go Curse!!

The theory goes:
It was a coordinated effort to steal the gold and hide it, for early US masons to use to start the US empire.
The gold (and whatever else) is gone already. Found by the people who were supposed to find it.

Saw an article floating around that said the guys actually finally found the treasure they were looking for. Anybody else pick up on this?

That would be hilarious.

Haven't seen that. Sounds like typical website clickbait but of course I would love to see them actually find it. I did some searching and the only thing I could find was a claim/speculation about possible shipwreck treasure being found this season (which I assumed to mean maybe they somehow actually managed to get permission to dive on one of the many shipwrecks in the bay and actually found something). I caught the preview for the new season and they didn't give any kind of hint about having actually found the Oak Island treasure. They did bring up the alleged sunken ship in the swamp again.

Maybe it is just promotion, or just another possible lead that could go nowhere. Who knows? If they found billions of dollars worth of gold or the Holy Grail or whatever, I imagine it would be tough to keep it a secret until the show came out. Here's an article:

(Alternate) History Channel and CoOI have been really great in the spin dept to keep people coming back with nothing really to show. I would not be surprised at all if those rumors were leaked or started by someone tied to the show just to drum up interest and ratings.... My husband and I always laugh at how we keep watching year after year even though nothing ultimately comes to fruition.....

ETA - maybe the Laginas are finally giving up and done spending money....which is why the show is rumored to be ending?

Maybe. This last season is supposed to have nearly twice as many episodes in it, so maybe they'll just give up after a big final push.

In the meantime, there are a surprising number of treasure hunters elsewhere who are digging billions of dollars out of old shipwrecks and holes in the ground. So maybe the Laginas will get it done.

From what cast members told me, that's not happening yet.

Thanks JC...
As a history enthusiast, I shall enjoy seeing what else comes out of Smith's Cove...even if it is only structures that have nothing to do with treasure. Pulling a sunken ship out of the swamp would also be fascinating just for historical perspective. What annoys me more than anything about the show is the huge leaps of speculation that they later try to pass as fact like the Knights Templar stuff or the red-haired lady who spun a bunch of BS about the "Goddess of Fertility." Did she even realize she tried to claim the KT....die-hard Christian warriors....were worshiping a pagan goddess? It's that kind of stuff that makes me eye-roll....hard. It pushes the boundaries of credibility.
