Warming set to breach 1C threshold

Global Warming is real some would say. Some say that we're actually headed for an Ice Age. I do think that the information presented by scientists point(s) to a warming trend. This new information presented by Climate Scientists not only point to a warming trend but it also points to a dangerous trek into unknown territory as we climb toward the 2c marker.

Global temperatures are set to rise more than one degree above pre-industrial levels according to the UK's Met Office.
Figures from January to September this year are already 1.02C above the average between 1850 and 1900.
If temperatures remain as predicted, 2015 will be the first year to breach this key threshold.
The world would then be half way towards 2C, the gateway to dangerous warming.
The new data is certain to add urgency to political negotiations in Paris later this month aimed at securing a new global climate treaty. Scientists say that the one degree mark will be broken in 2015 because of a combination of carbon emissions and the impact of the El Nino weather phenomenon.

New normal
Since 2013, warming of the oceans and land surfaces has reached new heights. The year 2014 went down as the warmest year since records began, but it is likely that 2015 will go beyond that level. Scientists believe that 2016 is also shaping up as a very warm year and they expect that the one degree margin will become more firmly established in the coming years.

Actions have been taken to curb CO2 emissions by major world economies but as long as places like China continue to be gross polluters things won't change for the better anytime soon.

The science was indisputable in the 1970's when many of these same scientists, now professors, concluded there was a coming Ice Age early in the 21st century. Just look how that turned out. That the climate is changing, we can agree. But simply blindly believing that we can stop it is arrogant at best and specious at worst.

No doubt your spend happy band of social engineers are salivating at the possibility of hammering us with a Carbon Tax but please be honest about it. Your great grand children will thank you for taxing them into the Stone Age.

Scientists can go back a lot farther than the 1920's using tree ring and ice core samples to measure environmental temperatures.

And speaking of tree rings..It has been shown there was a tremendous warming period about 2600 years ago in North America . But , almost overnight the temps fell. And kept falling until North America was covered by 2 feet of ice down to Dallas , Texas...And guess what was to blame ? CO2....

Do you know why pre-industrial age records are used to measure against current temperatures? Not that they don't look even further back. There are ice cores that give us information about the atmosphere for the last 10,000 years.

They are included for an over-all picture and to compare norms of climate ages against each other. Pre-industrial is used for the modern because that is when climate started dramatically changing.

Both those methods of dating produce relative dates, not absolute dates. Perhaps a bit more education on the terms used would bring a bit more understanding.

Educated people understand the reality of AGW and human induced climate change, as do uneducated people who are capable of looking at the actual science and data.

What is crazier to believe: scientists from alll over the world are in cahoots to push AGW in order to fulfill some 'liberal agenda' hyperbole OR the big fossil industry is actively trying to dismiss science and research that will hurt their profits?

Those who think AGW is a hoax, do not back their opinions with good science, instead use political rhetoric, hyperbole arguments, and resort to insults to make their point.

The science and data suggest human activity is indeed changing the climate and causing a warming effect.
