Driving through a high pass in the Rocky Mountains between Cody Wyoming and Yellowstone Park about 2:00 A.M. I was forced to stop in the road as what appeared to be two enormous basket balls on stilts filled my field of view directly in front of me a couple of yards ahead. The basketballs were covered with a wirey short brown hair. I would say that the butt was 4-6 feet up off the road. The animal then exited the road down a steep talus rock pile about 70 degrees steep. I got out to look but did not hear anything, very few animals would be able to walk on a slope like this. Since it was quiet and pitch black and a large quiet animal was somewhere near me I got back in the car after a few moments and lit out.

I have never been able to place what animal it could have been. It was obviously big, probably 600 to 1200 pounds. I just researched animal butts but nothing really looked like what I saw, there did not seem to be a tail. Animals in the vicinity are Elk, Grizzly, Cougar, Bighorn, Antelope, Mountain Goat, Mountain Sheep. There have also been several Bigfoot sightings along this pass at about this elevation.

Care to venture a guess?

Personally, I'm not sure I will ever figure it out.

At first glance, it looked like a moose butt to me.

I was going to say the ass end of an Elk, but Moose butt is equally appealing.

I would say moose as well from your description. They don't have a noticeable tail and would likely look like two furry basketballs on stilts from behind at night.

Maybe Kim Kardashian was vacationing in the park. Her ass matches the description.

I thought the OP meant that the whole animal was 600-1200 pounds....
But if it was just the butt... then Kim K would be a match.

ETA: I shouldn't have done that.... Kanye is at the door with his goon squad now......

Well, she could have been carrying Kanye's ego. That would account for the extra weight.

Sasquatch flashing you the moon as he/she/it crossed.

I don't understand how two furry basketballs on stilts could be judged to weigh any specific weight.

Then the total weight would have to be measured in tons... long tons.

That is just a baby moose....a full grown beast would be a lot larger....

Okaaay. So the pic in the OP is the butt of the creature?

I've driven that area, been vis a vis with moose, elk, antelope, and bison. Having paid more attention to the mess in my pants, I never watched their butts, but i've seen a few and they don't look like that.

Whatever it is...don't piss it off!

Easy, any animal with a butt that high of the ground has to one of the larger types and that is the weight guestimation range for a larger types of animals.
