Women are driving the sales rush as fears grow amid influx of refugees. Dealers say shotguns have almost sold out because you don't need permit. Police say around 70,000 guns have been sold this year alone in Austria. There are now thought to be estimated 900,000 firearms in Austrian homes.
Weapon sales are soaring in Austria as citizens of the small Alpine nation become paranoid over the numbers of refugees crowding into their country.
In a country of 8.5 million people, there are now an estimated 900,000 firearms in homes.
And gun dealers report that it is women driving the sales rush. This year alone, police say 70,000 guns have been sold.
'Virtually all shotguns are currently sold out, because you need no permit for them', said Thomas Ortner, spokesman for an arms dealer in Upper Austria. For every other type of weapon, a licence is required.
Licence courses, in which applicants must demonstrate knowledge of firearms, used to take place every five weeks but they are now held weekly because of spiking demand. In cities like Salzburg, a line of people outside the necessary government office to get the paperwork to buy a gun is now an everyday sight.
Czech Independent TV also reported on the arms upsurge. As of Monday most rifles in the country are out of stock.
'People want to protect themselves.
'The most common purchasers of arms are primarily Austrian women who are also buying tear [pepper] sprays, which are much in demand.'
Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, said he recently returned from a gun rights event in Europe, where he sensed a change in attitude toward firearms.
“I just returned from a gun rights meeting in Belgium, and I can attest that all over Europe people now want the means to defend themselves,” Gottlieb told WND. “Self-defense is no longer a dirty word. In countries like Austria, where it is still legal to own a firearm, gun sales are at record levels. I can tell you first-hand that people in Europe now wish they had a Second Amendment.”
More potential new customers are entering the market than ever before, according to the Czech report.

Your love and admiration for guns are only matched by your ignorance and lag of knowledge towards europe.
Austria is a tiny country IN europe and has very liberal gun laws compared to almost any eu country,
and the article clearly is about austria ONLY, yet the OP writes europe, and argues that eu as a whole are buying guns like crazy wich are the worse kind of manipulation and should make the OP a shoe in for a job as a newsreporter at FOX.
Im here to deny your ignorance and sensationalisme, shame on you and your followers for leaving the brain unlocked before
writing your gibberish nonsens on the internet.

Shows what media programming has done to peoples minds.
Totally ignorant of reality. The Muslim areas of Europe are a disaster with higher crime especially rape than the worst us cities.
There are now areas of Sweden for instance the police won't even go.
You can be pc all day long bit I guarantee in nobody commenting like this would set foot in these areas.
