I did try a search on this but it appears the search engine on ATS is busted, at least for me.

This report is quite scary although it's probably done the rounds before:

Quote: Its [WHO] report said 50g of processed meat a day - less than two slices of bacon - increased the chance of developing colorectal cancer by 18%.

In a nutshell, reduce your red meat intake. Now, that's a shame as I'm quite carnivorous. All the numbers and percentages are given in the article but is it enough for me to give up eating the stuff? No, I like it too much (albeit maybe to my detriment).

What about you?

Nope. If some study said eating bacon would instantaneously end all life on the planet I would still eat it happily.

Same.

But, I don't think it's meat that's unhealthy, but rather what people do with it. I mean, God only knows what people put in meat to make it more tasty or to last longer or what not.

Just grow your own meat, and we should be fine!

I have zero intention of not eating bacon because the United Nations thinks it may cause cancer.

They can kiss my bacon-flavored ass.

I love bacon, especially turkey bacon. I would never give up bacon unless I absolutely had to. Just thinking about bacon makes my mouth water and nothing is going to turn me against it.

I don't know, perhaps it is a nitrate thing? I buy the uncured to avoid nitrates.

Well, I do not have the luxury of having a hog farm (nor do I want one) so I will leave it to the local experts who make stupendous bacon.

I agree I saw this earler today but was afraid to post it, there are too many bacon loving mods and established members to risk loosing my account.

I have too many stars to step out of line now

Hey, don't you be talking about bacon like that.

We just had an old age record breaker at 116, who claimed she ate bacon and eggs for breakfast every single day and snacked on bacon throughout the day.

However, it is true that if you cook bacon too hot and fast, the preservatives, even in "natural no nitrates added" marketing hype bacons will make some nasties. Check the package, it will say beet or celery juice instead of nitrates, because beet and celery juice is mostly nitrates.

Dont sweat the nitrates, your saliva produces more of those than all the bacon you-ll ever eat timees ten.

Just remeber slow and low and black is burned brown is flavor. And if you can get it from forest running, ttuffle digging, acorn munching pigs, it will be miles better for you than factory corn fed pigs.
