Since I am somewhat new to ATS I thought maybe I could start a yearly tradition that many will find amusing or educational? I suggest to the MODS to consider my proposal.

My proposal is that every Halloween I offer to all of ATS and its members ANYONE who disbelieves in the existence of spirits in general that one person volunteers to participate in a controlled experiment with online cameras and Skype connection on Halloween. The individual will have a small crew to assist the volunteer when needed.

The objective of the experiment is to provide proof of the spiritual world and what goes "bump in the night". ATS could take a small donation to be given to the volunteer for his/her time and for the crew. (I will not be part of this crew). My time will be pro-bono (no cost).

Basically the volunteer will sleep and eat in a single room over the Halloween weekend while participating in various rituals. Afterwards the individual would be monitored by the cameras as he/she slept and carried on his/her life over the next couple of days on camera. Of course there would be times and areas where the camera is not allowed..... mainly bathroom. Showers would be conducted in bathing suits while being filmed.

The individual and crew can not know one another (including myself).

Not much time to do this year but we can start preparing for next year.... with multiple threads throughout the year.

A great way to bring to a close if whether spirits are real or myth.

Any volunteers?

When something goes bump in the night at my house, I generally roll out of bed with a flashlight in one hand and a .45 in the other.
I guess I don't believe in ghosts.

This strikes me as a very pagan concept.

I understand where you are coming with this. I do brother....some must be led through the fire before they can see.

It is about saving souls...... not losing them to the dark side.

Some can not understand faith and how it works...... they must be shown to be able to believe.

How often has Christ walked with our brothers and sisters through hell to show them what it is all about?

Please follow the thread.

The type that contact hell.....

You'd put people at risk just to convert them.

How Christian.

How Christian.

But you do not believe so why are saying that they would be put at risk? At risk of what?

There is NO way a Christian would participate in this trial but an unbeliever might. Probably an atheist....

To an theist it is all myth and lies, right? So where is the danger to an atheist?

Aren't you an unbeliever?

Wrong, firstly.

Secondly you know full well the risks involved "contacting hell".

Ridiculous.

OK, my mistake....... I thought you were an unbeliever.

I am making a unique offer to any atheist who does not believe in the spiritual world. A once in a life time offer. If an atheist is so secure in his ideas and theology than why not?

It's Halloween, right.... One of the BIGGEST nights of the year for many people. Halloween is bigger than Christmas or Thanksgiving to millions of people........costume parties, candies, costume awards.....etc.....

Another good idea would be to video tape of jugs of water hung in the trees and placed alongside plates of food that are offered to the wandering spirits that haunt outside of the houses people live in during Samhain.
Would the camera capture the food and water disappearing right before our very eyes? Nobody knows whether its it's just the raccoons or other animal visitors that wander and roam through peoples yards.
As for bumps in the night inside the home? I'm not sure I want to watch people sleeping to catch a glimpse of covers being tugged ever so slightly by spirits passing through the thinning veil this time of year.

"And when they say to you 'Consult the mediums and the wizards who chirp and mutter", should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?" Isaiah ch8 v19
The New Testament way of introducing people to the world of spirit is to demonstrate the Holy Spirit, not the other kind.
There is nothing Christian about the assumption that these spirits are contactable at all, or that this season of the year is more conducive to contacting them.

Doesn't seem like much of an offer.

Sounds like a sinister trap in my opinion.

Tell me, what do you gain by sending a non-believer into the darkness?

Hi,

How are you going to ensure that spirits appear and that this is not simply an exercise in pervy voyeurism? What's your plan for this poor 'atheist'?

It's religious concepts of Hell and what spirits are that I don't buy into. I don't know whether or not 'spirits' exist. I've had some interesting experiences with 'something'. The explanations for that 'something' could be one of numerous things. Some less exciting than others.

I was wondering the same thing. Watching people sleep? Not my cup of tea and how would a ghost make an atheist have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? All a ghost on camera would do is provide a glimpse into things of this reality that are not explained for the layperson in the Bible. I'm pretty sure the Bible doesn't want us to focus on spirits and to focus on the Holy Spirit as DISRAELI posted.

Precisely. My pagan sensibilties forbid me to wear bathing suits, as he so quaintly calls them, in the shower and so the whole exercise - should I be the lucky atheist to be chosen - would really just be a bit of a shady perv-fest as far as I can see. Unless he can give me the incantation to summon Jesus himself into my kitchen, I'm going to remain unimpressed.
