BTW I found the original video: m.youtube.com...

Gotv.ctitv.com.tw, as seen in the video above, links to this news site: gotv.ctitv.com.tw...

The site is in chinese. I have alot of trouble even reading it, since I do not speak chinese nor does the translator help much.

But apparently this site is pretty shadowy, according to similarweb: www.similarweb.com...

Alot of "data not available" on that site.

Furthermore, the "flying city" is mentioned in this blog: www.ufosightingsdaily.com... in which the author adds,

I live in Taiwan Republic of China and there is no news of this as of yet. I searched in Chinese but couldn't find it

So gotv.ctitv claims that "thousands of taiwanese" saw the thing, yet nothing appears on chinese news or tweets or anything?

This flying city thing smells like BS to me.

No offense taken. Just thought it was a co video and tried to imagine seeing something like that.

S&F for an interesting post!

Never knew something like this existed.

Thanks for sharing!!

Heres the other from OP's link from 2011
Clear pic of older city?

Alot of hoaxes look cool.

Imagining seeing something does not validate the existence of this something. I would love to see my tail feathers - this does not mean that I have tail feathers.

I fear many people in this thread are now convinced that cities can fly - all this because they were no doubt expecting this thread (which you posted in "paranormal") to be at least a bit factual.

Perhaps you could share with us more credible claims of these "flying cities" sightings?

I guess you didn't read my post at all? I never said it was a flying city. I had thought for a moment that it could have been an optical illusion; Mother Nature playing tricks.

Edit: I had also indicated I wasn't sure where to put this thread.

I am far more inclined to believe this was some holographic thing than a mirage! The buildings don't look anything like boats, or even "stacked" images of boats, and they don't look like the skyline below, either. Someone has some way coo tech, is my guess.

Anyone seeing something in the sky they cant explain should think about that possibility first, I'd say!!

Nice find, S%F!

AWESOME Avatar!!!

So funny, my wife grew up in South America and never saw the mini-series until about a year ago when we picked up the DVD.

Thank you! I'm thinking it's a Mirage. The idea of a holographic city should remain open for discussion.

if a mirage, does it make sense that it is viewed from this perspective... like looking up at it from below? so it really looks like a floating city? im just a little confused about the pathway of light refraction from the actual object to the viewer... how did it get a viewpoint of the buildings from below what would be ground level, or at the very least, AT ground level??

S&F I have never seen such a thing... Just goes to show you "IF" you put enough crap in the air above a city no tell what you will get ! hahahah

Couldn't find any more coverage or alternate angles so I'm wondering about the authenticity but it's pretty unreal! Seems like some sort of legend...

The buildings below the mirage don't match the floating city. Also even if they did why would they be so much larger? Usually a mirage is the same size as the original.

Yes, the right combination of chemicals, air pressure, temperature, etc, seems to open up a dimensional porthole

The explanation may be "Looming and similar refraction phenomena" as explained in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org... This explains ships and islands which appear to be up in the sky over oceans and lakes. More examples are explained in this article: www.buzzfeed.com...

this could also be created by an image reflection on the window glass of the room from which it was recorded...

You nailed it. We are looking at a city from below. Mirages don't work that way.

There are two possibilities - that the footage is real and matches what the eyewitnesses saw. If that's the case it is a serious cause for concern.

The second possibility is the plausible one. A lot of people saw a real, unimpressive, weather and temperature related mirage. Then someone spent a couple of hours in After Effects, compositing an image of a city into some phone cam footage and released it, claiming that their impressive footage was of the reported phenomena, resulting in sensationalist click-bait news reports.

TL;DR, a mirage took place, someone hoaxed the footage, slow news day.

And I guess you did not understand my post at all.

Your OP link does not link to "Mother Nature playing tricks"; it links to a hoax.

This is how the mirage of a city actually looks like:

A true mirage is distorted by the non-homogeneous nature of air density, and, above all, sits practically right next to the horizon.

Now look at your video:

Your video looks nothing like a natural phenomenon. This is because your video is a hoax. Someone took a video of the sky and surimposed the image of a city on it. Ever heard of photoshop?

Check for yourself: look at the angle of the "flying city" in your video. The angle in which the city "appears" oddly correlates with the angle of a camera taking a picture from the ground, up at the towers. Surely you can realise that this means that the picture "floating in the sky" was actually taken by someone on the ground and then artificially added to a video of the sky?

It is a hoax, mate - if you want to talk about natural phenomenon, then fine; but please do not post hoaxed videos of such phenomenons!

It was a glitch in the matrix, probably the floating city optic camouflage system went down for a few minutes!
