So a girl walks into a high school dressed for "Halloween" in a trench coat and gas mask.

A student reports this to school officials.

The school goes on lockdown and a swat team shows up with an armored vehicle.

Apparently the swat team was engaged in a "drill" nearby.

Now, was this girl part of the "drill" ?

Or, was she just "testing" the system because she knew the drill was happening ?

Or, was she just pulling a joke on the school and students ?

Over-Reactions or Extra-Cautious ?

SWAT team descends on CO school over student’s Halloween costume

A female high school student awaits a disciplinary hearing and could face expulsion for wearing a Halloween costume to school that prompted officials to lock down the building Wednesday.

An unnamed female student was spotted in the hallway at Pueblo County High School early yesterday morning wearing a gas mask and trench coat, and a classmate reported her to school officials, The Pueblo Chieftain reports.

The teen was hauled to the office where she was interrogated by the police, who also placed the school on lockdown for about an hour. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, which was training near the school, also responded in full camouflage gear and a large armored vehicle to sweep the building for anything dangerous or suspicious. They found nothing, according to the news site.

Hmmm.

I read about this earlier, and it is bullsnip.

A Halloween COSTUME for crying out loud.

Over reaction by the school to the nth degree.

Armored vehicle.

Heavily armed SWAT.

Over a trench coat and gas mask ?

Utter nonsense.

What was the costume idea suppose to be?

As in who was the student mimicking which is generally what a Halloween costume is.

Agree that it sounds like a bit of an overreaction though.

Who wears a gas mask to school, though? That's a bit weird.

Not as weird as this though:

Slight overkill.

As an outsider looking into America, or rather your newspaper stories, it does seem like people are edgy - they seem to expect the worst at all times. Is that a fair estimation or would you say I've got that wrong?

Yo.

It keeps the smell from the BS to tolerable levels.

Swat teams being sent for this, it is October, right?

And people say there is a "war on cops."

This is why most schools...the last 5 I've been involved with have a no Mask policy for Halloween. Problem solved.

So you do! Apologies to you and your gas mask brethren.

Sure.

Take away even more rights and "privileges".

It's just the way it is. They've taken away my rights and privilege to wear sunglasses in Wells Fargo but I don't cry about it.

Was she the only student who showed up in costume? It seems a little early for Halloween.

With about 550 American anti-terrorist organisations
and not a lot on their plate , this is right up their alley.
Silly girl is probably on 100 watch lists now ....
I hope she doesn't try to buy a box of matches or
anything dangerous like that. Even a toothbrush is
a weapon now !

Really? Is that true? How do the children managed to get disguised then? That must ruin Hallowe'en for them, it seems a shame.

What right do you have to wear a mask to school?!
You don't have the privilege either.

And what does a woman in full burka have to do with this, is a gas mask and trench coat a religious garment?

You can just wear what you want with out a mask, you are at school not a party.
It is a pretty standard policy IMO, I bet this school has it.

Schools don't like much of anything that conceals identity, just like most businesses.

You don't have that right or privilege at school.

Yeah it's been true for a while now. It's not just for this issue though, but also to keep track of the students. It's just the world we live in. They can always dress up for Halloween with Mask when they trick or treat though. That can never be taken away.

I feel a wee bit sad for them, that would ruin a Hallowe'en party. I can understand why the schools would do this I suppose, especially bigger schools, but it just seems to suck all the fun out of the day.

That's good then, kids should be kids for as long as they possibly can I think. Unless there's a swat team round the corner....
