I don't know if this is a pump and dump for the stock or if there really are significant amounts of oil.

HAIFA, Israel – After Israel complained for years that it was surrounded by oil-rich states but didn’t have a drop within its own borders, it appears there’s a big-time turnaround with the announcement Wednesday that massive oil reserves have been located in the Golan Heights, close to the country’s border with Syria.

Afek Oil and Gas, an Israeli subsidiary of the U.S. company Genie Energy, confirmed the find in an interview with Israel’s Channel 2 TVbut conceded that until the oil is actually extracted, they won’t be sure of the actual amounts and quality of the oil that has been discovered.
What made me think pump and dump...

According to a September 2014 Times of Israel report on the Golan exploration, Genie Energy is chaired by Howard Jonas and counts among its more notable investors the “former US Vice President Dick Cheney, Michael Steinhardt, Jacob Rothschild, and Rupert Murdoch.”
The fact that it lies on the border with Syria does tell me one thing for sure, the Middle East conflicts aren't going to end anytime soon. Is Putin trying to get a foothold to go after that oil?

There are grave breaches of international law as well as environmental concerns at play here. Firstly, the type of oil expected in the area may not be in liquid form and could require fracking — a process that involves injecting large amounts of scarce water and toxic chemicals into the ground in order to force the hydrocarbons to the surface.

Whether it is conventional oil or shale oil, fracking or drilling could lead to oil seepage into the underground water table, polluting Lake Tiberias — the biblical Sea of Galilee — potentially rendering local water supplies undrinkable and destroying the ecosystem for generations to come.

Oil and water don't mix.

The people who are doing it don't care about other people, they only care about money. They don't have to worry about where their clean water is going to come from. Even if something does happen they will find a scapegoat and the others involve will just pocket their money and look the other way, look at the notable investors the article mentions above.

I think they are just going to set up a US - Russia proxy war, or extend it I should say, hasn't it already become that in Syria?

Anyone else think the timing of this is suspicious as heck?

Not really, though this does sound like a hook for the jaw of Magog to go to war with Israel. It's Biblical and it will happen. Once Damascus is taken away....... Left as a ruinous heap. These are scary times we live in.

Yes because the Golan Heights belongs to Syria it's just more land that is illegally occupied by Israel. What a coincidence Israel whined about not having oil like the Arabs and the land they want to steal from the Arabs like the Golan Heights and Gaza has oil under them. Also by drilling for oil in Golan Heights the give Syria a real nice target to hit.

Russia doesn't need the oil in the Golan Heights and has made no move against Israel.

I'm not sure whether this find counts as oil in Israel, there is Bible prophecy that many believe will involve oil being found in Israel. And with Russia becoming (publicly) militarily active in the Middle East recently.... interesting times ahead.

Jeez, can you make it any more obvious that you're anti-Israel. You talk about Israel whining, you whine and blame about everything that has to do with Israel. I'm sure that this will be deleted as an off-topic reply, but I just want to state how ridiculous you sound.

Stating fact is ridiculous? Golan Heights is occupied territory. Israel complained many times about them not having oil like the Arabs that is also fact. Maybe you should stop believing Israels BS and see what is happening in the real world but then that would require a brain.

Balderdash! you see when one country starts a war and invades another and subsequently gets it's ass kicked the victor often claims any territory gained during the war as just compensation. Syria, Egypt and others invaded Israel. So Israel kicked their asses and annexed some of the territory they claimed during the war as a buffer zone. It's no use complaining about it. They started it. Israel finished it.

We have done the same with Mexico.

Just because all of the bass ackwards left has a hatred for Israel does not change the laws, traditions and customs of warfare. Those territories are Israel's now and it is they that have the right to determine their disposition.

moral of the story: If you do not want your asses kicked and your territory annexed do not attack Israel and if you are ignorant enough to do so anyway -don't whine when you duly get waffle stomped and your stuff taken away.

Uh, the last I checked, Israel is not illegally occupying the Golan Heights. If SA, Eqypt and other Arabs feel Israel is "stealing" land, why don't they use force to get it back. They're way bigger than Israel in both land and people. You'd think they'd help their Palestinian brothers but they don't like them either.

this must be illegal too then:

The 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended and specified the major consequence of the war: the forced Mexican Cession of the territories of Alta California and Santa Fe de Nuevo México to the United States in exchange for $15 million. In addition, the United States assumed $3.25 million of debt owed by the Mexican government to U.S. citizens. Mexico accepted the loss of Texas and thereafter cited the Rio Grande as its national border.
