Roseburg Oregon- Obama-Media and Respect

It is all over the news. A tragic mass killing on campus. Have you heard?
OF COURSE YOU HAVE. It is all over the news. While some in Roseburg are not happy that Obama is coming, ALL are not happy that MSM has been here.

At first, filling all major news casts were reports with information that was sketchy at best. They reported every little piece of information that came to them. 10 killed, and 20 injured. 15 killed and 30 injured. Up and down went the numbers. The shooter had 3 guns. He had 5 guns. He had 7 guns. All were reported and re-reported and reported again.

The shooter was killed by police. Over and over, until finally one survivor's story let us know the coward killed himself.
Maybe not mis-information but certainly a whole lot of WRONG INFORMATION.

As the action ended and the truth began to emerge, the media went into full scale bloviating. They interviewed people on the street. People crying, people in shock. And then made suggestions on moral responsibility. Then they began to interview the neighbors who having a national camera on them gave the regular "who da thunk" replies.

Then they began to interview people who had worked with some of the dead YEARS AGO. They called businesses in Roseburg wanting interviews. They were all over the place filling the national screens with their 'in depth' reporting. Get the story. Fill the minutes.

And now, Obama is planning to come to Roseburg to "show support" for the families of the dead and injured. And what is reported?????

MORE WRONG INFORMATION.

I heard that the OReiley Factor had an interview with an anti Obama spokeman saying that Obama was not welcome in Roseburg. Once again the MSM reports what they want to hear, what fits their own agenda, because sure this guy has the regular gripes against the sitting prez. Who did he represent? A group? The city? Nope. Most likely only himself and some of his friends.

But where was the Please welcome Obama interviews? None. Or that I can find anyway.

Then up goes the "Defend Roseburg- Deny Obama" facebook page, and guess what. It goes viral. MSM picks it up and BOOM Now we are in the eye again, or still. What will happen when Obama gets to Roseburg?

But here is the truth. Though Roseburg in Douglas County is a largely conservative community in an even larger conservative county, the elected officials are Welcoming Obama and his show of support for the victims. There have been several press releases in this regard as I am sure coordination with the WH.

On top of the city's official response I just saw a press release from the Douglas County Commissioners. In their public statement they also welcome the POTUS.

So in a conservative city, in a conservative county, both elected representative bodies are in agreement that Obama should be welcomed to the city on Friday. I will not link to these as you can do it for yourselves if you want.

And ATS????? Threads reporting that Obama will be shunned in Roseburg. And what then? Members one after another bloviating, just like the MSM putting forth the regular gripes.

I live in Roseburg. I have a good friend on the city council. Two of the dead in that tragedy were friends. I even took that very class two years ago. And you know what? I'm pissed at the MSM. But I am also fed up with those here on this board who proclaim over and over that Obama is politicizing the dead. And then they go on and on repeating it over and over. You know what? I think that THEY are the ones politicizing the dead.

I can also tell you this. That many people in Roseburg are shaken. And while we go about our lives of this and that, there is in the air, not all, but with many, a new appreciation of life. A new appreciation of the people we see every day. The joy of turning a corner and finding a friend standing there instead of not being there ever again.

Actually several member of families that either lost someone or someone was injured , stated they do not want Obama there to politicize the tragedy as he has already done. I cannot BELIEVE that anyone , much less the POTUS ,with any moral character would want to take a tragedy and turn it into a political forum so soon after the tragedy.That right there tells me a LOT about Obama . I dont usually get into name calling , but brother , I want to in this case in the worst way.

The entire town , it seems , have pulled together over this and DO NOT want Obama there. I agree. In fact , as far as the people in Georgia I have spoken to they stand with the people there.And it doesnt matter at all what demographics these people are , this was and still is , a shame and a disgrace for all people in the US.I hope there is NO ONE in the US that agrees with this --------- . You fill in the blanks , I dont want to on chance of being banned forever from ATS.

All they have to do is go to the corresponding FB pages and read all the replies. This happens to be your opinion and surely, some of others. There are many however who aren't in agreement with you. Why blame us here or the media reports for echoing what we hear from hundreds of Roseburg citizens?

And we don't know what they'd want, especially in the wake of a tragedy like this, or are we just assuming they'd cling to their guns and bibles like all the nutters on ATS who have spent 3 days politicising their deaths?

If you were an elected official in the political world, you would be committing political suicide to NOT welcome the president of the United States for ANY reason. It amazes me how people can turn a blind eye to this blatant and obvious usury of the citizens there from all sides.

Are we to ignore the 3 days spent politicising in these very boards over the spiritual graves of these people?

1/4 of Roseburgs population has said they are going to the protest on Friday. So, it will be interesting to see if they are the minority or the majority. (21,181 total population, 5,600 say they are going to the rally).

I think you might have ties to the council members who are looking forward to the feather in their cap for entertaining Obama. But, I dont think you are speaking for the majority of the citizens of Roseburg.

Please do not generalize. I am not part of "us guys"...I choose to not to affiliate myself with ANY political party. So spare me your platitudes.

Also, I ASSume nothing here...perhaps you are the one ASSuming? You have confirmed to me you care not what the family of these tragic victims wants, only that they should happily bend over and accept the POTUS visit. When he clearly broadcasted to the world his political intentions.

I can't help but shake the phrase "dancing on a grave."

Whatever happened to the decorum of letting the families GRIEVE and bury their loved ones and try to cope WITHOUT a media circus descending a SECOND time (i.e., Obama coming to town).

Before the day of the shooting was over, the President did his pontificating for the masses. Ok...done deal. No NEED to take AF1 across the country (buzzword-> carbon footprint) to pontificate some more.

There is a time to speak (which he did) and a time to remain SILENT as a show of respect.

I wonder what the "I, me" count of the speech will be. It's not about the victims of their families...he's making this shamefully about HIMSELF.

What in does Benghazi have to do with this???? And if you are speaking of the Senate Committee hearing , then that makes your statement unbelievably off-base.That didnt happen until some time later. The politicizing of Benghazi would not occur until it was discovered that it was not a riot , but a planned attack. You would think that when a mass shooting happens, the people opposing more gun laws should be rejoicing...because it means that they are winning. The fact that it is easy for mentally ill people to get guns shows your winning the argument...less gun laws.
