If 7/8 of their revenue is made from abortions they really need to change their name to unplanned parenthood.

They don't!

Have you watched the interview?

They do focus on education and prevention, which is why shutting them down would do nothing but cause MORE unplanned pregnancies which means MORE abortions.
And if we outlaw abortions then that means more women going underground for them and getting in harms way.

Oh ya I know where your focus was coming from, seeing as how you are one of the few that has at least heard what was said.

Was wondering where the OP source and the question came from.

And ya looks like a red herring.

So 3% of their business covers 86% of their funds?

Nope

What's the big deal about PP not providing mammograms? I go to a OB/GYN private practice, and they don't provide mammograms either. They Will do breast exams, pelvic exams, pap smears, take urine samples, prescribe birth control, hormone replacement therapy, pain medication, etc., etc.(just like PP, except it's more expensive). I have to go somewhere else to get a mammogram, just like I have to go somewhere else to get an x-ray or a blood test or an MRI. So what?

The question posed in the hearing being, should the fed continue to fund PP.

Might be helpful knowing sources of revenue.

Dodging those questions points to covering up.

GOP: Planned Parenthood wasted millions on 'lavish' travel, parties

Some of the themed parties had names such as “Gathering of Goddesses and Gods,” “Chocolate Champagne” and “Murder Mystery,” according to a report released by the committee during the hearing Tuesday.

Nice to see what that money from murder get spent on.

I wonder who was Cronus of the Titans.

I'm not sure why that's an argument? Are you looking for legitimate context, or are you just trying to create a different spin. Don't answer that, it was obvious. Here's a fact, feel free to do your own homework and check it... it's not hard to find. the percentage of TOTAL revenue from the government is 40%, so 60% is generated through mostly abortions. Would you like to do the math here? I didn't think so. The answer is 51.6% of total revenue. Over half their revenue comes from abortions if the 86% figure is accurate. What does it matter? Well, obviously it would be in their best interest if women had abortions, wouldn't it?

With that percentage of revenue coming from abortions, they are not a women's health clinic that also provides abortions, they are an abortion clinic that also provides women's health services.
I'm cool with that, abortion is perfectly legal, but let's call a spade a spade.

This article makes a lot of sense:

Tod ay’s Planned Parenthood hearing shows why Republicans will lose on this issue

Nor did any of the other Republicans. All seemed to have some very specific question they had prepared, one that was designed to produce a “gotcha” moment. But Richards didn’t have any trouble answering any of them, because the accusations that drove them aren’t all that controversial unless your starting point is that abortion is evil and so is anything in any way connected to it. That’s a position many people hold, but it isn’t a position most Americans hold, and it doesn’t actually tell you whether we should shut down the government. Here are some of the charges Republicans made during the hearing:

Cecile Richards is well-compensated as the head of Planned Parenthood!

Planned Parenthood supports family planning in foreign countries!

Planned Parenthood clinics don’t have their own radiological centers with mammogram machines!

Planned Parenthood has a separate political organization!

Which is involved in politics! And most of all…

Planned Parenthood does abortions!

All of these things are true. Whether you think they are nefarious depends entirely on what you think about abortion in general and Planned Parenthood in particular. But the chances that any significant portion of the public is going to change what they think about this issue once they learn these things is vanishingly small.

Naturally, even this thread didn't point out any controversy.

Republicans are trying to make a two-stage argument here. The first is that Planned Parenthood is bad. If they can convince the public of that — a challenge in itself, particularly when so many women have personal experience with the organization — then they need to convince the public further that Planned Parenthood is so bad that keeping it from getting any Medicaid reimbursements (which make up the bulk of the organization’s federal funding) is worth shutting down the government over.

If you think Republicans will do that successfully, then you probably also thought they were going to successfully get the Affordable Care Act repealed by shutting down the government two years ago. And we saw how that worked out.

Who cares about this story?

How about the bigger story that shows the firm PP hired to check the videos was a biased hatchet job, and now an unbiased 3rd party has checked the videos and found no misleading editing involved?3

Agreed, more than half of their revenue comes from abortions. They are an abortion clinic who also passes out free condoms.

Why is this surprising to anyone?

Federal funding cannot be used for abortions (Hyde Amendment, 1976), so the expense is covered by patients (and perhaps by donations/endowments). The costs of the other 97% of the services provided by PP are offset by subsidization. It's all in their annual expense report (PDF).

Here's their revenue breakdown from 2013-2014:

41% - Government Health Services Grants & Reimbursements
30% - Private Contributions and Bequests
23% - Non-Government Health Services Revenue
6% - Other

So we're talking 86% of what? 23%? 53% 59%? That's not detailed. It could be 19% of their total revenue, it could be as much as 50%.

What does it matter? The push is to defund the non-abortion services because PP also performs abortions. The idea being that without the government funding for the non-abortion services, they won't be able to stay in the black.

Did you actually READ that report at the bottom of the article you linked or did you just read the article talking about it? Because all that report says is that the raw footage films were edited to remove non-pertinent information. It doesn't verify CMP's claims at all. All it does is allow the raw films to be used as evidence, except the content on them isn't any different. They didn't film anything illegal.

This is FALSE. They do much more than provide abortions and free condoms.

Right. I do a bunch of things too! But I get paid to do primarily one thing. So, while I'd like to say I'm also a basketball player, the fact is I mostly get paid to a completely different job.

NO, they did not film anything illegal. Just like it's against the law to sell drugs, simply talking about doing so isn't a crime. It does, however, warrant an investigation. Are you blind to that?
