I was just wondering about the idea.
We KNOW weaponization in space is or already HAS happened.
The inevitable result would be spaceborne soldiers as well .
Perhaps on the moon ,as lunar security.

What a sad thought to ponder. As well as antiquated.

Assuming that our weaponry is more advanced than anything some other race has to offer......without knowing anything about any other race.........it's suicide.( Sounds like job for the marines.)

Or grandstanding redundancy if it comes to pass that we really are alone out here.

But if you're talking about protecting one part of the moon from other countries..........that's just sad.

*Starship Troopers*

But that will be in the future where soldiers will be employed by Mega Corporations, and governments will only serve a purpose in keeping their citizens in line..........

A little birdy told me they would operate under the sanctions of "The New United Nations".

Well your gonna have to get past the whole 'NO militarization' of space before you get to find out.

Spec ops in space is a natural progression. That will be one day.

There is no doubt.

I would think several branches would have units being trained. Def the airforce, navy, and marines. Probably space command would have their own soldiers.

I would stake a lot on the idea that there are already trained units. Or that there were even operational soldiers before the unmanned space flight became the norm. I would imagine all of our astronauts would be trained in many types of combat. All of the astronauts you have ever seen are probably trained soldiers of some kind.

Theoretically not much different than now, so I'd say all branches of service would need to create them. Navy with Marine compliment for actual space exploration/first contact. Marines/Army for planetary invasion/ship boarding, I mean interaction. And air force for Air superiority on a planetary scale. I could be wrong...heh

Now that I had some tine to think.

Yeah navy, and the SEALS.

Since Nasa does do underwater training.

Ir wouldn't be that different for SEAL training.

Seal Team Sigma!

Careful you just got an NSA supercomputer interested, and marked you down as subversive.

The difference between ground pounder straight leg infantry and special forces is how they get to the fight.

Fighters from all branches would be eligible for Combat Astronaut training.

Historically, Marines were regular army that got special duty on ships. Unit experience accumulated and the Marines were recognized as a separate kind of soldier.

Given what I know about different branches or military (given I am not an expert, just what I and friends and family have done) would have to says Air Force and Navy joint operations. Marines/Army maybe if we have troops on somebodies ground or need test rats. (M.A.R.I.N.E. Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Expected, A.R.M.Y. Arn't Ready to be Marines Yet Sorry Navy Family and the last one is a jab at my little brother the only one to do army in the family)

Taking war to space. How human. I hope leaving Earth to war is where the ETs draw the line and stop it.

I can only imagine how many times the current military costs it takes to keep a space war going.
