Fighting a losing battle. The Putin propaganda machine is strong. They actually believe Russia is fighting for the lives of Syrians. US politicians would kill for that type of blind faith. Putin has a 75% approval rating in Russia.

Without Syria all Russia has is Iran. Assad was losing along with Russian influence and Syrian oil with him. The TRUTH as you all claim to have is that this is basically Russia protecting its own interests through proxy wars.

Not to stop the killing, not to stop the west, not to save the middle east

secure Russia's ally the brutal dictator Assad. And I'm sure once ISIS is destroyed and the Syrian rebels can no longer fight Assad with all his new fancy Russian weapons will hold an election and live in harmony with all of Syria

Prior to this speech I had pinned Putin as a nationalist but after this speech I would consider him a pragmatic globalist or opportunistic globalist. He doesn't appear to be against a global order. That is troubling but not very surprising. The US leaders are the cause of much chaos and are often illogical but unless the chaos is by design it represents hope as any representative government can be expected to not have stability in their long term policy. That isn't always or even often a positive of course and it is only something to ponder on once the Islamic State is destroyed and their evil extinguished from the world.
