Not just US-backed, but backed by pro-Western Gulf states as well - namely Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

(full size)

The CIA has a one billion dollar program to train and aid Syrian "rebels," in addition to another Pentagon program to train and aid the same.

Documents from the Snowden leak show that this has been the plan since at least 2006.

Not sure I understand what you're saying here.

ISIS/ rebels are against Assad. They are not defending Assad. Which I'm sure is not what you meant, but based on what you wrote, or how you wrote it...this is what is conveyed.

Sure, Assad might be their puppet, but let's be honest, it would be quite daft of the Iranian government not to support Assad considering what is happening in their backyard.

Personally I would rather see Iran and Syria (under Assad, or someone a bit better suited) prevail over ISIS. Neither is a nation to aspire to, but nor is any nation in the west, at this point.

And we all know whoever takes over his post will just be another puppet of another show.

At least Russia has the balls to fight them. The U.S. seems happy to let them spread as far as possible with as little resistance as possible. I'm not too sure that wasn't part of the plan seeing as how ISIS was probably funded by the U.S. and Israel both directly and indirectly.

Don't ya love how Saudi Arabia keeps popping up in all of this?

What a great place on earth. Home of the worlds worst construction firm, modern crucifixions, quite likely one of the main conspirators of 9/11 and now the chair of the UN Human Rights Council.

I'm saying that the trouble in Syria is the direct result of Saudi Arabia, and other Sunni allies going after the Shia's( IRan) puppet regime.

For some asinine reason the US/West backs' the Saudis/

Russia backs Iran.

It is a repeat of the Peshwar Seven, and the Tehran Eight of 1980s Afghanistan.

Only the Tehran 8 are besties with the Russians now.

And the Peshwar Seven is using the west for their own ends, and we have been stupidly playing along.

Looks like it is heating up and ISIS is attacking the Russian bases in Syria. If this is true, hope the Russians got a lot of them.

Spetznaz...they are OK, nothing compared to US Spec Ops though.

I hope they give ISIS a hard time also, but Russian ground troops seem to do well combating uninspired, poorly trained, pseudo-civilian opposition these days.

ISIS is a different breed than Ukrainian farmers with guns. They might have to take a break from the Vodka. Good luck to them.

Honestly...No BS...We need to be free of dependence from oil as quickly as possible. The sooner we can tell the Saudis to eff off the better.

Oil is not a left/right or environmental issue...it is a Security issue.

Do you believe we aren't aware of what's going on? Of course we do, we're one of the most important pieces of the plan. The U.S. isn't stupid, we're complacent in what's going on. Not from ignorance but intentionally.

This administration? Try pretty much every administration that came before this one as well.

I get the impression that you think this administration is what started it all, the only one that hasn't been completely honest with the public.

What's going on in the Middle East right now, it has been in the works far longer than Obama has been in office. All this administration is doing is carrying out the current phase of the plan. To think otherwise is to wear rose tinted glasses. You can't put all blame on one president alone, that's ignorant.

This has been a multi-administrational conspiracy, if you don't think so then keep on with the ignorance. Power has always corrupted, not just recently.

No, its a know fact that the USA is training Syrian rebels which are not tied to ISIS. This rhetoric is out of control.

You all drank the Russian kool aide or just really hate the USA and cling like children for Russia to save you.

Russia only cares about their puppet Assad remaining in power. Not the Syrians, not ISIL, Not minorities

OIL, Sphere of influence, military presence. economic gain

same as the USA but you all sound like hypocrites supporting the Middle Easts Russian savior

Yea lets get our troop on the ground with a civil war and another troop surge. The American public doesn't have the stomac for another large scale war which this is exactly what would happen.

Russia has everything to lose if they lose Assad and their only true ally in the Middle East would be Iran and Assad's back was against the wall until Russia swooped in

The Russians are coming, The Russians are coming!

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the West of creating "strange hysteria" over Russian activities there, saying that Moscow has been openly supplying weapons and sending military specialists to Syria for a long time.

"Russia has never made a secret of its military-technical cooperation with Syria," she said, adding that she could "confirm and repeat once again that Russian military specialists are in Syria to help them master the weapons being supplied."

So, this is really a case of Russia engaging US-backed troops?

World war 3?

Completely agree, I've seen Russian propaganda stated as fact to many times on this site. I just feel sorry for them, so I don't even bother with the ignorance.
