my mom of 54 just got an eviction notice on her door from her land lord stating that she has back rent! she lived in the house for 3 years never missed a payment! she had to have leg surgery and almost died 3 time because she got cellulitis in her face and leg so her med bills are high but she got help paying most of it off from family. and is now working again! but her landlord will not understand this. and is going to kick her out as she is still recovering. we tried to pay her more money but she don't care! not sure we can win if she takes her in front of a judge?
also i have ask for a rent receipt time and time again and she never give me anything! here is the sms message from my mom to her land lord!

Why slumlord? I have to side with the landlord here.

Unfortunate things happen, but those unfortunate events can't be visited on other people, that's a home for your mom, but a business for the landlord.

she is a slumlord for the fact that she never repairs anything if asked! the water pips are rusted and i am going to have to replace them for her!. she is to cheap to update anything! let alone the eviction notice she posted on the door that is from 2009 not 2015! it would cost her a little money for that new form. maybe she is not a true slum lord but she is unfair to kick my mother out with no where to go! do you have a mom? i have no dad so she is the only parent i have!

I think slumlord because the landlord isn't willing to cut OP's mother a break. I agree it's a business to the landlord but to be behind only 375 and showing that they can front the money every 15 days is somewhat commenable. I know I couldn't do that. Especially coming off medical bills.

i put the 375 out of my own pocket in her land lords mail box so she does not have to do it! if i can buy her 30 days that would work to get her a new place! i just have to work overtime! what is this world coming to?

I imagine using a 2009 eviction notice may be grounds to deny the eviction. Why would you pay for the pipes? If she is that bad why stay?

i am billing the landlord and taking before and after pictures for the pipes!

also she was going to move to a new place before she got cellulitis. but after that she had no money and i had my own money problems to deal with

Did the landlord authorize you to work and agree to pay?

Why the hell would you want to live in a place this person owns? They really don't seem to care about anything but money and have no sympathy for your Mom. If it were me, I'd take it as an opportunity to find a better place. They may have the legal right to do it, but I wouldn't want to live there.

My suggestion is to request "reasonable accommodations" due to disability caused by illness... there are form letters that can be found online search "reasonable accommodation landlord sample letter". But, only do this if in fact the illness is the ONLY reason that rent has not been paid per agreement.

its all sorted out and fixed! her land lord is in a lot of heat for lying to the lawyer! so she backed down lols thank you for the responses
