What is wrong with It? What does he not have that he should?

First...nice new avatar...that gang in Australia New Zealand is pretty nasty.

On topic, I understand what you are saying as far as the UK Australian appointment, but this one seems more based on sexual orientation than merit.

What are your thoughts on this particular appointment in the US?

Fixed that for you.

I have just familiarized myself with the previous portfolios Mr Fanning has held and on paper he is a qualified candidate for this new position. The fact that he is openly gay, imo, is irrelevant to the appointment but

Like a storm in a tea-cup this will be a political orgasm and we are about to witness the MSM go into over drive - pretty much over nothing but here is my prediction - they won't talk about his qualifications - it'll all be about what he does in the bedroom.

At this level of responsibility, the expectation of anyone is job role first, personal life second.

There have been closeted gays in high power positions for years. The only difference with this man is he aint lying any more.

All he has to do is a good job and everything for all of us will be fine

I think the question should be is he qualified to be Secretary of the Army? If so who cares what his sexual preference is?

J. Edgar Hoover comes to mind....

Not to mention the Roman civilization...

So the next war we have will this guy be fighting from the rear?

He will only be for the term of the president, still I find it interesting that he chose this particular man.

But hell, lets make love no war. I will love to see the military uniforms in the color of the rainbow.

Isn't that where all politicians / political hires fight from?

Darn! Why couldn't it have been the Navy?

Anyhow, he's got grunts and not seamen to work with. I hope the Army's missile defense system covers the rear flanks well- don't want to hear about the Army taking it up the rear, grunts and foxholes.

Now there will be mass evacuation from the Army, which is exactly what he wants.

Why?
This guy held the same positions with the Navy and the Air Force.

For as much as everyone says his orientation doesn't matter it sure as heck is getting brought up a lot.

Who do you think is responsible for bringing it to media attention?

Do you think this guy did?

I can see why it is said, it is a ground breaking hire.
But also can see why some would just want it to go unsaid, and some what agree.

Good question on who was responsible though.

I could not agree more, with your statement. I would also add that placing a gay person in charge of the Army was just thumbing his nose at the military as a whole. It just so happened that the Army was the first.

It's ground breaking why? Who cares?

The only question should be: is he qualified?

I am sure he does.
If it was him that wanted it announced would you blame him?

You are right and people are letting this orientation get in the way of that.

If you were at this level of your career, what would you want to be the focus?

Not every LGBT is an activist or wants to be. They are by default because someone else makes them so.

That isn't what I asked.

I asked if you would blame him for wanting it to be known he was openly gay.

The man has a pretty accomplish career and this is the first I heard of it so maybe he felt it was time?
