"Why did the chicken cross the road?" My 9 year old just blew my mind.

My nine year old son just blew my mind by explaining to me the age old joke "Why did the chicken cross the road?"

I always assumed the answer made it a 'D'uh' kind of joke: "To get to the other side." Not really clever or inspiring -- just the oldest joke in the book.

BUT I WAS WRONG.

As my son explained, the chicken crossed the road to get to 'the other side.' The afterlife. My world has been rocked by his little epiphany -- the joke is actually a very cute play on words and I have a feeling I am not the only one who never got that joke.

Soo the chicken chose to be in the after life. Buy crossing a busy highway ( hit by a car for folks who don't get it ) thus crossing over to the other side? Actually makes sense.

Ha! well "the other side" is a reference to the afterlife after having been squished by a car and a reference to the other side of the road.

The joke is actually a play on words and not just a glib opportunity to say the chicken wanted to get to the other side of the road.
