That doesn't seem like it was ment to be funny really, but to help shed light on unfortunate, even scary, truths.

"But on network TV you rarely hear anything bad about the nuclear industry. "

Because in terms of actual risk or incident -- except for the never ending scream of anti-nuke hysteria which is a danger to us all as a modern civilization -- there had been nothing bad to report since Three Mile Island. Even that was a 'win' because despite the damage containment worked and releases were small. Attacking GE/Westinghouse for building the safest and most reliable power plants is, again, don't-give-a-f*ck-inyerface-stupid.

Research the Hanford Site. It's the most toxic nuclear waste site in the western hemisphere. It irradiated the Columbia river and the government kept it secret for decades, in fact it still might as well be secret - I only recently learned about it myself. You never hear about it in the news. The cleanup is going to be more extensive than Chernobyl, costing hundreds of billions of dollars.

Funny how we rag on Japan for Fukushima when this hell hole was sitting in the U.S. the whole damn time.

That little school house rock skit was right on.

Hanford is a toxic graveyard, the sloppy result of early research by the military carried out in an environment of secrecy and casual disregard, Cold War weapons build out and for a time, waste products from the fast breeders.

That dump site has NOTHING to do with the way uranium is handled and processed today, how LEU becomes reactor fuel, or how spent fuel is stored in pools until it cools and plastic drum storage after. It is also meticulously accounted for. Part of this knee-jerk response to nuclear power involves playing some nightmare like Hanford over and over and (somehow) scaling it to cover the whole world. I would hope that the more you learn about modern nuclear power generation, the more you realize that we're talking about a high ratio of energy produced to low risk --- if you have ever seen a refinery or LNG facility burn.
