I found an interesting way to initiate an OBE.

It involves lucid dreaming.

In real life, I am always looking around at the ground in public places, to pick up pennies, or other lost coins.

I found that I do this too in my dreams too, except that when dreaming, I start finding lots of coins, and some unusual ones. I have trained myself that if I start finding an unusual abundance of coins, to ask myself 'Am I dreaming?'.

In a dream, suddenly then I can become lucid. I realize 'wow ... this is a dream!'

I can then decide to have a fun dream, or decide to initiate an OBE. The way I can do that is to jump off from something tall in the dream (like a cliff, or from a window of a tall building), to go 'falling' like the other more masterful poster noted above, or I can start flying around in the lucid dream. Then there is a chance for me to find myself in an OBE, but I am at a low skill level where I only succeed a small fraction of the time, and most times just jolt myself awake instead.

keep the mind awake while you force the body to fall asleep (as in, stay focused on physical feelings, not mental imagery or mental chatter), and you can't help but project. You project every night anyway, but you don't stay conscious of the feelings and you let your imagination fill the astral space instead of seeing what's there ( hint, that's called a dream
)

yes recording your dreams helps out a ton. The reason is you are training that part of your consciousness to remember better. It also helps to read over your old dreams every once in a while because again, it helps activate the part of your consciousness used to lucid dream, or ap.

I don't get all this talk about it being scary or these negative entities being there or whatever, but I feel like I've experienced this a bunch of times meditating. I'll start with how I was meditating. I would sit down and try and fix my posture to get into a comfortable position (I have a hard time locking my legs together) but I'd find something that I felt would work. I would then visualize usually blue/indigo/purple waves of light, the deeper into it I was the more light and movement I would be able to see. The first crazy experience I had was I felt like my consciousness was in the room but above myself like an observer. Later on in this I visualized myself in space and there was a tiger; My body was at the top of the tiger near its head as if i was having a face to face conversation, but I was viewing from a different angle. I realized how big the tiger was (it took up a great deal of space) and was shocked and snapped out of it

The other experience which was even crazier and came pretty quickly after I started meditating. I was stoned as well (don't think I was for the tiger thing). First I saw a very clear image in my mind that came out of nowhere which was an owl on a tree branch. I kept focusing and what came next was unreal. It appeared as somewhat of a slideshow, and it seemed to show what I think now was some sort of ancient culture, it was illustrated in a way that you'd find in ancient cultures with like the side views and minor detailed illustrations. What I remember was there was the, for lack of a better term, versace pattern, the one that goes up sideways down sideways up ect. That pattern made up the border of illustration I saw. At this time I didn't know that pattern had a significance but it's all over ancient art. What was in the illustration was forestry, what I think was a small pyramid structured like the mayan pyramid but much smaller, and I believe someone was walking in the shot. Once again, I snapped out of it because it was pretty shocking and part of me thought I was making it up myself but after the fact I knew there was no way I could imagine something like that randomly without any thought

I don't know why I'm saying all this but maybe someone will find something valuable in the specifics that can help them with something in their life. I've learned a lot about myself and how things work in this universe just because I ask the questions and I seek the knowledge. Meditating isn't scary, this is astral projection stuff isn't scary unless you go into it thinking it is because of something you read on the internet. Just try not to snap out of it when you see something amazing

I just started the Gateway Experience audio set from the Monroe Institute; after just the first 30-min intro, I had great results and expect that OBE will occur. I know it's a bit different than AP, but it's likely a big step toward opening into this field. I've always wanted to lucid dream, but I think I have a block...maybe wanting it to much or being to serious about it.

For those who are well experienced and practice astral projection i hope you could explain to me what exactly is astral projection and how can i astral project as a total beginner?

P.S i tried to research about it and try it and the more i researched the more i could confused and failed doing it, so i thought what better than an experienced persons help

Not everybody can astral project easily. It depends on your body type. It has a lot to do with your attachments. According to eastern lore, your consciousness has several different bodies, all intertwined within each other. There's the physical body, that you see in the mirror, and you identify mostly with. There's the etheric double, that's a kind of "energy body" that drives your physical body. There's your astral body, that contains the emotional content of your mind, and is often refereed to as the "spirit" in the scriptures and religious texts. Sometimes the "etheric double" and the "astral body" are referred to together as just the "astral body" or "spirit". There's the "mental body" that has no emotions, just pure thought. There's the "buddhic body" that is obtained by discarding both emotions and thought, being pure awareness...etc..depending on which system you reference, the number and types of bodies possessed by a being can vary somewhat, the ancient Egyptians had another classification scheme, but the central idea is the same...you have more than one body that you inhabit simultaneously, and it is possible to discard the lower body types and abide in just the higher forms.

These bodies are often referred to as "levels" of consciousness, or said to exist on different "planes" of existence. But this is all just terminology to help grapple with the idea that you can change your perception of the world you inhabit. You can "withdraw" your conscious awareness from base sensations, and rest your mind in more subtle sensations. And there are distinct boundaries between certain "levels" of this activity, so that you experience a definite "jump" in the type of experiences you encounter. Everyone knows of the existence of these alternative realms, but to some people they prefer the term "hallucinations", which is just a code word for "seeing something others don't understand and can't accept as having any reality".

One person's astral trip, is another persons hallucination.

Ok. How to astral travel. This is a "siddhi power", that is described in yoga. According to "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" there are 5 ways to obtain any general shiddhi power: (1) by birth into a certain body type, i.e. people with natural Psychic abilities, (2) by herbs or drugs obtained from certain plants, (3) by austerities, i.e. fasting from worldly consumptions and engaging in sensory deprivation, (4) by mantras, incantations or prayers of certain sound patterns, (5) by contemplation and concentration that is described by real yoga. But, there are actually 6 ways. The 5 mentioned by yoga, are the ways you can do it by yourself. The 6th way, is getting help from someone else. Some other "master", or "guru", or "angel", or "lord" or "demon" literally helps you up into the higher or other realm..e.g.

After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. KJV, Revelation 4:1-2

Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place. KJV, Ezekiel 3:12

So, either a spiritual being, or spiritually enlightened individual, literally "lifts" you up into the astral realm, or you go there on your own, by your own efforts, which is much harder.

Dangers in doing it yourself. Yes, it can be dangerous. A friend of my brother died while astral projecting. We don't know whether he just didn't want to come back, or something went wrong during the projection. So, as far as I know it is dangerous to try it alone. But, many people claim that it is not dangerous for them. Believe what you will. I think it depends on the individual. All of my projections have been pleasant and instructive, but others claim to see demonic things and horrors. According to the Tibetan Buddhists, it's all in your mind. You see the content of your own mind when you astral project. This is why lots of preparation, purifying the body and mind, or using a spiritual guide, is recommended before attempting any of these spiritual practices.

Nevertheless, here is how I started out. What got me going. And the explanation I developed to explain how it works. Your mind is like a radio receiver. It is tuned to the frequency of this physical world. It has an "auto tuner" that always tries to find a "radio station" that is broadcasting a strong signal that the mind can interpret and make sense of. If you block out the sensory signal from this physical world, the auto tuner automatically scans the other frequencies looking for a signal, and "locks on" to the next strong signal it can find. You don't have to "do anything" to find the next station, except block out this current station. Just "relax". The mind will find it automatically. It's always scanning, trying to find signals, attempting to make sense of your surroundings.

When I first tried to astral project, I closed my eyes, and relaxed. But, then I always fell asleep. Then I found the key described in a Psychic Magazine, that the trick to keep the mind awake was to provide an "indistinct signal" to keep the brain working, looking for meaning, so remain awake, but unable to find a recognizable meaning from the signal. This was done by taking a ping pong ball, cutting it in half, and placing the two halves over the eyes. This allowed "light" to enter the eyes, hence the brain kept getting the signal to stay awake, but the light was diffused and featureless, so the mind kept "scanning" to find an interpretive meaning, this is like "sensory deprivation." After awhile, the field of vision would begin to show various colourful shapes, and features would emerge, simultaneously the brain wave patterns changed as the mind continued to scan for a signal. Finally, the mind enters the next strong signal radio station, which is the astral world, and "locks in" there, and thus began my adventures into the other realms. That's the basic.

However, there are things to note. What prevents most people from being able to astral project? There are two "flaming swords" that guard the way. Essentially, they are "lust" and "fear". Most people will be stopped by these two "swords" and be unable to progress any further. To understand this a bit better, the Buddhists describe the world as being constructed from four elements: earth, water, air, fire. Astral projection is described as going from earth to water, water to fire, and then fire to air. The step, where water mixes with fire, produces sexual feelings and thoughts of lust prevent further advance. The individual begins to daydream about sex, instead of concentrating on the goal at hand, that of astral projection. He or she forgets all about the astral, and dwells in the pleasurable thoughts of lust. So, the path is blocked. This is the main reason the scriptures warn to avoid "lust" if you would seek a pure spiritual path, and so Priests must be celibate etc..

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. KJV, Galatians5:16

Lust is an obstacle to astral travel, but can be overcome by using other methods like taking drugs etc..which traditionally has been considered the demonic path.

But, even if he or she can overcome this first obstacle, there's still another problem, "fear". As soon as "fire mixes with air" the emotion of "being afraid" arises, and the physical heart begins to beat rapidly. The individual becomes conscious of this sudden change in heart beat and the mind dwells on the fear of dying, and thoughts of not being able to come back from that state etc..and most people will be stopped right there. Again, either faith and pure spiritual thought, or some drugs to numb the senses and enable one to overcome this obstacle is required to go on further.

If you pass successfully through these "two gates" you enter the other realm. But, what you see there depends on what is in your mind, and how you got there.

That's just the basic idea, as briefly as I can explain it.

Happy travels.

How do you manage being so totally ensconced in Christian fear?

It is dangerous, this does not mean it is of the "devil", or evil. What do you even know of the devil? There is no devil you fool, mainstream Christian dogma is just that: dogma. These people haven't got an inkling of understanding and they presume to understand the mysteries. What devil? Satan? The one God sends to punish Job in the bible? That guy being ordered around by God? Do you begin to see the inconsistencies here? You are far too clever for this. You have seen through the 'conspiracy matrix' already and you always bring it when I see you post. Isn't it time you graduate from these pre-school religions by now?

Special powers? You mean like Jesus and the prophets? Those kinds of powers?

The hypocrisy and ignorance of Christians would be funny if it hadn't served as a catalyst to bring so much blood, death and chaos to the World.

It is good that you would play the devil's advocate in this case because it is true, these things can be dangerous. This is why magickal practices are to be taken seriously and not be dabbled with haphazardly. Travelling around in your light body without a hint of understanding of what is happening is dangerous because there are negative entities out there and they do take advantage of people. This is why a student and teacher relationship is often stressed.

A person with a higher functioning light body would not have this problem, such a persons mere proximity is anathema to negative entities. I wonder what you make of other people driving out demons in the same way Jesus did. Way before Jesus was ever born. Are they retroactively devils and satanists? And did God order the devil to seduce these sinners like he ordered Job to be tormented?

I'm quite sure Jesus would laugh at your fear based response. This is a classic example of a person throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Don't be that guy.

If you really want to know about the devil I will initiate you most intimately. This character, this fantasy of yours. Of a red devil with a pitchfork, it's a cartoon. I can promise you this: You would not like the real truth of this matter. The sheer indifference towards humans and human affairs can be a sobering realization. The way things work... if these exoteric followers knew the truth of things it would be hard for me to refute the notion that this planet of ours is anything but a cosmic joke.. on them.

You haven't asked any questions but I'm telling you: don't ask questions you don't want answers to.. but if I'm reading you right, you will get there eventually because this will eat at you.

"Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables"

"We speak wisdom among them that are perfect."

"I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High."

It is funny to me how your skepticism only goes one way.. I mean, if I were you I'd be suspicious about the biggest most popular religion on the planet, but that's me. To believe in all these conspiracies and to think that they're the only ones that haven't been touched. And that their interpretation of scripture is anything but false. Spiritual wickedness in high places indeed.

"But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory"

Hidden wisdom.. better watch out, hidden is a synonym for occult.

I'll give you a bit of my perspective on the whole thing:

First of all, it's hard to define "what" exactly an astral projection/out-of-body experience (OBE, or OOBE depending on the literature) actually is. Some people classify it as a version of lucid dreaming, and others define it as you physically leaving your body in some form or another. My general belief is that it is something "external" to the body; for me, what separates a projection from a lucid dream is that I have more clarity in a projection, and less barriers in the mind.

Now, there is a mechanic that it seems many people aren't aware of: When you are in a projection experience, yes, you will see things that are strange, weird, or creepy. It's not all sunshine and daises. Heck, you may even see other projectors, spirits, demons, or even shadow people. The single most important thing you need to know is this: Most entities in general, will not bother you; those that do are bullies. You know how you fight back against the bullies on the astral? Show them you aren't afraid. On the astral, someone's thoughts can quite literally come to life: That demonic figure that is following you around might be your own thought! Show them you aren't afraid, and that you know they cannot harm you: Pray, imagine you holding a weapon, picture yourself throwing flaming balls of spirit energy (or my favorite tactic, give them a hug - it's funny to watch something scary flee because you're calling it cute and adorable).

There is nothing to be truly afraid of, period. In all of my experiences (which would require a separate thread, or a PM), no harm has come to me. I practice when I go to sleep, and at worst, I sleep so soundly I miss my alarm. There is something there that remains with you, based on the research I have done myself into this. If that piece detects something urgent (IE: You need to use the bathroom), somehow, it knows where you are, and calls you back. Have a bad experience? Think of your body. Also, it should be said that if you think negative things on a regular basis, it should come as no surprise that you have more negative experiences. Entities aren't stupid: If they see you trying this with an ounce of fear, they will try to make you fear them as much as possible. You don't fear them? They get bored and move onto someone else; it's a waste of their energy to try and bother you more.

For a beginner, my advice would be to not try projecting from your bed (mentally, your mind associates the bed with sleep: Some will say you actually project every night, but you want the "conscious" projections, as these are what you will remember when you awake). Get a reclining chair, futon, or something you can relax in, and only use that for trying to project.

Don't get disappointed - just like with anything in life, you need to work at it to get better at it. I've studied this since I was 10-11, and still have not found a 100% success rate for projection attempts (I'm 24 now). Some take to it like a fish does water, and some take years to put a toe in water.

Get used to trying to find that moment when your body falls asleep - Meditation can sometimes help, or something simple like focusing on your breathing.

Enjoy the learning process - Be that pioneer that finds a method that works for you most of the time; unlike the real world, there is no map on the astral, so it's open for explorers like us

The authors I usually preach about, in part because their explanations made more sense to me, is Robert Monroe, William Buhlman, and Robert Bruce (in that order; be careful with Bruce, as lately he seems to be writing about every topic and seems to be getting to the "commercialized" stage in his career). Monroe only published three books, I believe, and I found them all to be helpful. Buhlman has a large variety of techniques, and Bruce actually does have some beginner-level material that is easy to read and understand. Astral Dynamics (especially the older edition) has some good material. He also makes a 90-day guide to get you going as well.

If you have any specific questions, don't be afraid to ask!

Thanks for the very clear guide, first i am totally not scared by peoples talk about it being scary or whatever else.
I have tried falling feeling before and just for once and while doing it.. unconsciously i drifted away suddenly i am conscious in a very big black place i couldnt feel my self breath or felt anything i was just like a floating consciousness and i woke up my self from it and regret for waking my self up because i didnt give my self time, I have also after that tried many times to do that falling feeling i start feeling it then i dont anymore because i think about it much rather just feeling it and go with the flow and fall. Plus i have tried meditating just laying down on bed and happened many times to hear a 'CLICK' sound simultaneously with vibration feeling in my body tho never got any further.
I dream every single day and i remember the dreams, but parts of it and not clearly and sometimes i feel that i am semi awake in the dream. Will be working on your and others advices to my practice to have successful OBE's

To answer Your questions first and then to pay tribute to the quid pro quo of a dialogue, I'll ask You a question at the end? Deal? I see You nodding in agreement.

To get You going down The Path. First thing in the morning chug a warm-hot cup of water that has sat out over night. (reverse osmosis) Do this prior to drinking coffee or tea. This will work like LiquidPlumber™ and will 'clear Your pipes' Do this EVERY morning when You get up. By Friday or Saturday You'll be getting rid of Your 'waste'. You might also weigh Yourself now and see how much You've lost by next Tuesday.

If You're going to use tap water make sure it sits out or get a filtering device and STILL let it sit out. If buying drinking water, look for SpringWater or distilled water.

Here is a chakra clearing meditation to get You going.www.youtube.com...

Here is My question: Are You Your body? If You think You are then this is akin to going through TSA™ at the airport.

Question, just today I was napping and I had a horizontal falling sensation. Now I know some claim this means the astral body has left and when it returns it produces this falling feeling. The sensation woke me up.

But I can't remember any astral travel or dreams for that matter. So?
