Heading to Italy in a few weeks after not being able to go this past year and I realized I never posted pics from the previous trip.

Heading into Venice from Marco Polo International:

The hotel we stayed at, the Stucky Il Molino ('The Mill') Waldorf on Isola Giudecca ('Jew Island'):

Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo Doge:

The Bridge of Sighs from a few perspectives:

Isola Murano:

(took the craftsman about a minute to make that)

Sights from around the main island:

Ponte Rialto:

A 'squero' (gondola repair shop):

Two pics of the Grand Canal:

Also did a special behind the scenes tour of the Colosseum which included the hypogeum:

It also included a close up of a rebuilt trap door used to bring animals, gladiators and set pieces up the arena floor:

The special access only fourth and fifth levels:

Looking out from the top of the Colosseum towards the Arch of Titus and the Forum:

The Trevi Fountain:

Great thread.
Some outstanding photo's and excellent commentary.

Some fantastic old members contributing - miss woody a lot - and dare I say it a less sarcastic and sardonic AM.

Have a great time mate.

Yeah, I read through it, there are definitely people I miss who posted. Thanks man, I'll add some new ones from Praiano, where my old man is from, when I get back in September. Maybe a few more from Rome too.

Great pics.

I miss travelling so much. Venice is so mysterious and beautiful at night (and smelly too).

Have a great trip!

The best times to be there are in the morning before the cruise ships disgorge their great unwashed masses or evening after they hoovered them back up. I tell anyone who goes there to 'try and get lost' since the sestieri (neighborhoods) that don't contain St. Mark's are actually more interesting to walk around in and explore.

Great pics...
