Russia Delivers New Planes and Arms to Syria?

This report claims Russia is delivering new arms shippments and fighter jets to Syria.

This supposedly is in response to the U.S. delivering some things to Turkey recently.

If this is true, what will it take to stop the wars in the Middle East if the super-powers keep the fires burning?

Six Russian MiG-31 interceptor aircraft land in Damascus to rescue Assad regime

Six Russian MiG-31 Foxhound interceptor aircraft from Moscow landed Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Mezze Airbase situated in Damascus international airport, debkafile’s military and intelligence sources disclose. They were followed shortly after by giant An-124 Condor transports, which delivered 1,000 Kornet-9M133 third-generation anti-tank guided missiles.


The Russian airlift of advanced weapons for Bashar Assad’s army will last for several days. It betokens Moscow’s intention to keep up its support for the Syrian ruler and counter – by military means if necessary - any secret Iranian diplomatic machinations for terminating the Syria war and with it the Assad regime – such as have been reported in the past week in Western and Arab capitals, especially in the Gulf.


Our sources report that the decision to send the Syrian ruler advanced aircraft and missiles could only have come from the top, i.e. President Vladimir Putin. It took direct aim at the latest moves made by the US, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia for ending the Syrian war. Every formula they came up with entailed Assad’s exit, either in stages or at once.

Depends, military dictatorships are not desirable either. But imagine that bunch of colour-revolutions well prepared with an open source culture for everything and start a worldwide direct democracy for us people after the coup.

I doubt there would be any ISIS left after 2 weeks if everybody on this planet suddenly would've a vote that actually counts.

How does this shipment change anything? The Coalition never intended to end the war. Just business as usual and sweet-talk to further obfuscate the matter that the Willing started it in the first place, left a big pile of tools of war in a completely destabilised Irak and then further supported the extremists in Syria.

One wonders how good their cover really is, thanks a lot. Commiting atrocities to fight them? Freedom and democracy, insidious as hell! Nope... I don't wanna think about that! And now imagine the outrage if we would find just one Russian Soldier in Assads Army of Darkness. Rather funny, but in a creepy kind of way.

The Mig-31 is a formidable aircraft, very fast. Western aircraft to my knowledge have never had an engagement with it other than patrol interceptions.

Untrained Iraqi fighters were able to use is predecessor the Mig-25 to some advantage in combat due to it's speed.

F-15s can't at all catch those suckers.

... but not as fast as an AAM, as the Mig-25 experience shows. The Mig-31 is an evolved Mig-25 and several were shot down by Western types over the last few decades.

This is Russia finally fulfilling an old contract, so no need to panic. It's probably been fulfilled now as the nuclear deal with Iran relieves resistance from the West and Israel. There is no doubt that Russia has been supplying more useful materiel to aid the Syrian regime in their struggles.

Mig-31s will have no impact in the terrible civil war in Syria. As the dictator Assad has recently said, what he lacks is manpower.
