A jolt with the morning coffee in SF

Good morning. Felt a short, decent quake just now in San Francisco. The cat tried to warn us at 5 am by knocking things off the counters. Or maybe he's just an a-hole.

USGS is calling it a 4.2 just north of Piedmont, CA.Link

Yes, indeed - a 4.2 quake reported by EMSC but now downgraded to 4.0 -.

Hey I love my jolt in the morning too, mine is just named a bit differently....Same principle though!

Hope all is well out there with that 4.2 (4.0) tearing through!

That's the 2nd 4+ on the Hayward fault in the last 30 days.

In the big scheme of things it's probably a good thing to have small quakes frequently. 4.0 level quakes are unloading the fault from south to north.

Unfortunately for Berkeley, they are probably next. Hope it's below 5.

Thank you, Chris. I believe you're right. The cat is looking very self-satisfied just now. Thank heavens this was just a little shaker for us that made for an interesting morning. I hope it didn't wreck anything or hurt anyone in the East Bay, closer to the epicenter.
