Trump: I would shut down government over Planned Parenthood

Washington (CNN)Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Monday he believes Republicans should shut down the government rather than fund Planned Parenthood, the health services group that is facing scrutiny after undercover videos of its officials emerged.

Trump said Monday on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt's show that the videos, which feature Planned Parenthood officials apparently discussing the sale of fetal tissue and organs for medical research, are "disgraceful."

Why am I not surprised? I'd say that I'm disgusted by such stupidity, but then again it IS the Donald who said this and this is just par the course for him. This issue ISN'T worth shutting down our whole government over... Besides, shutting down the government because you didn't get what you want is literally anti-democratic. Anyone who supports such an action (for ANY reason, not just over abortions) should NOT be getting votes to be elected and shouldn't be reelected if they are already in office.

I agree with Trump!
Not only shut down government, it needs to be totally gutted... or aborted!

Trump reminds me of the big bad wolf.

I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in. In my opinion he's just a loud mouth hot bag of air.

Needless to say, at the end he was boiled and eaten.

You do realize all the rhetoric being spouted...just like the Bernie Sanders tripe about publicly funded elections...are just empty promises. They've ratcheted things up a bit because it takes more these days to appease the ever angier populous. If you believe any of their hollow words I feel sorry for you. They are told all the things us the people want. They sift though with a host of top staffers and pick the most beneficial to them and their party then proceed to fill us with smoke. Haven't you guys learned from the last 2 or 3 campagins...

Trump has the right idea. Shut down the Government and keep it shut down.

We can take a break from protecting Monsanto, pointless wars and funding the killing of babies.

He has my vote.

ETA: IF Aliens turned DC into a big hole in the ground no one would notice. I still have my locally elected Sheriff and local and state services would function just fine. In fact the state could keep all that money we send to that cesspool in DC and upgrade infrastructure and better serve its constituents.

considering some of the stuff the government has been shoving down our throats ( cough ACA cough itself passed using some shady tactics just so they 'could get what they want' ) shutting down the govt isnt such a bad idea. essential systems never get shut down anyway so ppl will still get their welfare checks food stamps ect. lol.

Nor do those that fight against us...those programs and things which we discuss for days here are not among the things shutdown...nor are any of the things we hate. They shut down things beneficial to us to pressure us to agree with them...to extort our compliance!

Except that Bernie has been saying the same things for years, he's not just flip flopping to what's popular at any given time.

Your comment would have merit if he just started saying these things, rather than the reality, we all just finally took notice.

Oh I agree!

(government shutdown looms)

"We can't pay for social security, food stamps, babies will die in the streets!"

But foreign aid, war, defense contractors still get their paychecks.

Because anarchy rules! /sarcasm

Do you really want the movie "The Purge" to happen every day, all day? Do you really want America weakened so other countries would be forced to invade us? They would you know -- America can't descend into anarchy, we have these things called nuclear weapons....other countries would want to make sure they are secure. We'd be invaded by someone.

We have this little thing called a "social contract" that means you contribute to the common good, and give up lawless anarchy in exchange for the rule of law and order. It's kind of how we got to be as advanced as we are today...

To all the people saying the government should be shutdown, y'all DO remember what happened the last time the government was shutdown right? Just because the government does a lot of things that we don't like, isn't a reason to shut it down. It also does a lot of things we DO like or take for granted. Those things end too when the government is shutdown.

And asking to have the government shutdown over a petty partisan issue is completely stupid and undemocratic. It's the actions of a spoiled child throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted. When the investigative probe comes back and PP is cleared of any wrong doing, is it then ok to continue to ask for the government to be shutdown? When does it stop? What happened to abiding by the Constitution?

Trump is just talking out of his backside trying to appeal to the nutters.

Those that say they would want the government shut down don't realize that shutting-down the government does not solve the issue at hand. If you want PP de-funded, write the legislation, get support for it and pass it through congress.

But therein lies the problem. They tried that and it failed. So now they piss and moan and cry that the government needs shut down.

Emotional theatrics.

Until he gets there... As we have all seen before, even if he is sincere once in the running those with the purse to control our government will step in and find a way to either buy him off or extort compliance from him as well. The problem is what he proposes is too entrenched to just be legislated away and we've seen it all too often. The last president to truly try was JFK...look what that got him.

That's my worry too. Not him being bought, but other stuff. That's still completely different than saying he's just telling us what we want to hear.

abiding by the constitution stopped when they forced a citizen to by a massively overly inflated product they may never use for a very long time just because this citizen breaths air. well it ended before that but its a great example.

And what certain groups have done in the recent past when they haven't gotten their way. Pitch a fit, whine, and "shut it down."

It's immature. And ridiculous.
