*snort*

If you want my 2001 Hyundai beater and falling apart house ... whatever.

I'm just trying to keep my head above water and government OUT of my business. Socialism doesn't do that.

Care to explain the 90% taxation he has proposed while you are waiting for her, then explain why he is only paying 20% of his income? Then after that, explain how taxing the 'evil elites' to 90% will actually solve anything?

The 90% he speaks of is a marginal tax.

He pays 20% because that's probably his current tax rate...

A marginal 90% tax rate would increase the money going to pay off the national debt, help with college educations, infrastructure, which creates jobs... That's just a small example of what the marginal high tax would do for the country. It would get us out of a big hole and fast.

A 90 percent top marginal tax rate doesn’t mean that if you make $450,000, you are going to pay $405,000 in federal income taxes. Americans have a well-documented trouble understanding the notion of marginal tax rates. The marginal tax rate is the amount you pay on your income above a certain amount. Right now, you pay the top marginal tax rate on every dollar you earn over $406,750. So if you make $450,000, you only pay the top rate on your final $43,250 in income.

The national debt could also be addressed by curbing national spending.

Sorry, post script to that thought:

We also have been sold that line over and over ... just let us tax you more and we'll pay down the debt, and somehow, the only thing that happens is that we go deeper in debt.

At this point, I view the government like a teenager who keeps coming to his parents with the following proposal - "Gee, mom and dad, I'm sorry I maxed that last credit card, but really, I have it figured out this time. Give me another credit card and a raise on my allowance, and this is how I'll budget things, and THIS time I'll get myself out of debt ..."

How many times do you get taken for the same old spiel before you figure out that all your teenager really wants to do is spend ever more money even if it gets him even deeper into debt?

But that doesn't create jobs, get now roads, bridges and rails that the country needs.

I know you don't like him. That's fine. I'm not interested in convincing you.

But it's not the government's job to create jobs.

Roads and bridges and the like are local projects, not federal ones for the most part.

It's the government's job to maintain infrastructure. True, most infrastructure is local and state, not federal.

Not the government's job to create jobs? By maintaining infrastructure jobs are created and maintained. Remember when FDR created jobs by employing people to build national PARKS? What's wrong with that? People were employed, we now have parks.

The economy is so bad, that business can no longer create jobs with any value. Unemployment at 15, 20, 30 percent is the new normal now, regardless what the government says the number is.

Government is the only "corporation" left that can create jobs.

Face it, capitalism is dead, but no-one has the guts to state it openly.

Entitlements, welfare, food stamps, housing allotments is the new normal.

Success, independence, a work ethic, are now considered bad things to be insulted and disparaged.

Bernie is being deliberately dishonest about the 90% tax rate bs of the 1950's. The loopholes and money losing schemes to lower total income were huge. No one paid that rate. He knows it, it only takes a quick google search to ya know find the truth.
The top 3% pay about the same as in the 1950's. Reagan lowered the rates a lot but also eliminated many loopholes so instead the rich used their resources to make more money instead of using their resources to hide it.

A problem in general with inequality in the USA is that so many companies that dominate the world are headquartered in the USA. When one company has a large global market share the leaders of those companies are going to make more and this profit will be funneled to where the company HQ is. This also means in many instances the most productive people move to the USA because they are productive enough to receive more income. T

Lastly the 1950's will never be represenative of a normal global economy. The industrialized world destroyed in WW2 and the victor the USA made client states of former powers. When the world needs to rebuild and all the non-bombed factories are located in one country guess what happens?

I have yet to figure out why so many people are in love with this concept unless they think it will only apply to the "evil rich" and not to them, but a 90% tax rate is a 90% tax rate.

I don't know about them, but I cannot survive if I suddenly lose the remaining 60% of the income I am left after taxes every year. I will go bankrupt. And I do not want to apply to the government for their "generous" programs to survive. I've seen the endless rounds of certification paperwork and inspections I would have to submit myself to in order to qualify. They meddle. I don't want them to meddle in my life anymore than they already do.

Where did you get you will be taxed 90%??????????????????

The national debt alone will eventually be more than a citizen can pay back in a lifetime.

Taxation is often used as a catch-all term for government interference in everybody's lives and the economy as a whole.
Obamacare eliminates a lot of freedom of choice, which is similar to the freedom of choice lost by paying 40% of the national income to the government. Actually, with Obamacare over 50% of the national income goes where the government tells it to.

Actually our economy has had 95% of its money value removed by inflation. All of that went to the government and financial sectors. Not Bernie's fault per se, but he is with the same side philosophically.

Capitalism is not dead because all that is needed to revive it is freedom.

I think the decline will be as slow as printing Federal Reserve Notes can make it. Maybe a few generations. Computers and TV help with that a lot.

While your posts indicate that socialism is the destroyer of economies, yet it is obvious that how money is spent is a big factor. If the country borrows to pay for TARP, pay for corporate subsidies, pay to house non violent criminals - cover the cost of having the world largest prison system, foreign aid, and the most expensive military on earth it could lead to economic collapse.

See you don't need socialism to destroy the economy, otoh socialism can be misused to the same result a destroyed economy.

So we have two ways that can destroy the country and one that helps people, of course helping people is the problem.

I will vote for Trump at lease he has a plan to take America back from the corrupt corporate lobbyist.

But time and time again Republicans (conservatives) have shown that they don't spend less. They spend just like the Democrats, only in different areas like defense (war).

While I totally agree with this post, I just wanted to highlight the fact that Bernie is doing the same things and standing up for the same principles that he always has since "day one" in his political career.

Bernie hasn't changed, it's the "people" who are changing. They're waking up! They're finally hearing his message and they're receiving it well.

Hence, the newfound popularity. Both, here on ATS as well as at every single venue where he speaks across this nation.

This, in my opinion, is exactly why people are flocking to him. Especially many of the younger generation. He is everywhere on Facebook. He's the same person, saying the same things that he has said for decades. I have been a fan of his for at least the past ten years. He says it like it is, no apologies. He would be a breath of fresh air as president.

Yes, I used a text acronym, ATM, in my thread title.

Anywho....why are there so many Bernie Sanders threads on ATS right now? I don't recall ever seeing a heavy political push on ATS, but the Sanders threads have me wondering...

This is a lie. I know for a fact that you were a member during the last elections. Ron Paul threads were EVERYWHERE. Just because the threads are about a politician you don't care about, doesn't mean this is a new phenomenon.

Are there, possibly, true disinformation specialists that flood sites, like ATS, to brainwash the theorists into believing a certain politician is the one to back?

No, it's called selective bias. A few weeks ago there were tons of Trump threads.

Tinfoil hat is in fill force tonight....odd happenings...

Are you seriously under the illusion that Trump wouldn't see this as an opportunity for himself and if necessary bring his own lobbyists in - Really? For him not to do so would be a massive reversal of the way he always operates - to make sure his own ass is covered.

Don't you think some people would say resistance to change and move with an evolving world scene isn't fresh air, it's actually rather stale - but then the thread isn't supposed to be about the policies I guess.
