What is the point of keeping Alien Life from the public?

I don't know that I buy into the whole aliens come to earth thing myself but I would imagine that releasing that info if they had it would be a problem mainly for one reason.

People would demand the Government tell them
1.) Who they are.
2.) What they want.
3.) What their intentions are.
4.) Where they are from
5.) What is the plan if they are hostile.

These are questions the Governments may not have answers to.
I don't imagine not being able to answer those 5 questions would go over real well.

So in short I could imagine a scenario where the Governments say... lets not bring this up till we have something to say other than,
"By the way folks there are Aliens visiting earth that may or may not be a threat... we don't know anything about them and they ain't talking... have a nice day."

We all go on about little green, men and spaceships flying around our atmosphere, pictures that show little aliens hiding in our houses. Maybe the whole thing is just a crock and nothing has been found.

My problem with this is that there have been hundreds, thousands if not millions of people who have seen things in the sky, in old pictures and even wondering about the woods.

They all can't be seeing things. Can they?

OK let's assume for a second the Orson Wells mass panic scenario did occur. The broadcast started with the EARTH BEING UNDER ATTACK AND THE MILITARY BEING MASSACRED, which is a completely different scenario to, "Hey guess what, we have visitors from another planet, say "hi""

The people that DID panic did so cause they thought we were under attack by an unstoppable force, not because there was an announcement of aliens.

What if the aliens are in contact with the real rulers of the planet ?
We all know governments are really puppets and being ruled by a shadow government......well that`s what i believe.

I know we may think presidents have access to everything but don`t forget that they are in office for a maximum of eight years so maybe TPTB feel they don`t need to tell them someone.....that`s really only in a part-time job, anything about something that`s been going on for God knows how many years.

There`s societies....secret or known, that have been working behind the scene for hundreds of years, who don`t inform the governments on everything they`re up to so I feel if there is anything going on with aliens on our planet. That these people who hold the real power would be keeping it to themselves.

Definitely a possibility. Although, I feel there are simply too many incidences that almost definitively portray the existence of Alien life.

Except everyone from NASA to Obama and to the Pope acknowledges that there is extraterrestrial life out there just that we don't have definitive proof in hand.

But thats not goid enough for some people no instead its this asinine the grays are experimenting, or that whole theres a secret base way underground thing etc.

Instead of just saying we are not alone out there, but its a really big out there. It might be a while yet before we get there and they get here.

Do I think that in all the vastness of space that someone or something is out there, yes. Has there been a single definitive case with irrefutable proof that said life has visited this planet, not that I know of.

"They" is a pretty wide number. I say no one is keeping anything from us and they never have been. Not all accept the obvious, and more refuse to believe any and all the 100's of thousands of years of evidence.

So...who would believe who? Who is the authority? No one. Everyone, every political party, religion, country, organization...would never be believed by all the same way, the same time...if at all.

No one speaks for Earth as one. The evidence is there already. And some of us...accept it now. Others...never will...no matter who makes the "disclosure"...which will never, ever, ever happen.

It's called exposure. Different generations have different exposures. At this point the alien concept has been run through the ringer, it's just not as mysterious as it once was. We've all been exposed constantly to multiple possibilities both good and bad for an alien species to be like. It's just not as panic worthy as it may once have been.

That said, I still argue what little panic occurred was not due to the aliens but the way they were being represented... you know, going around killing and abducting people, destroying buildings, and butchering our military.

I mean really, imagine how people in say Africa would react to find out the US military was flying around dropping bombs on them and running them over with tanks, and randomly abducting them?

Would the attackers being human cause less of a panic?

I'll add that there are many people in Korea that are "afraid" to fall asleep in any room with a running fan.

I can't sleep without one actually. I'd be a freak in North Korea I suppose. But fair point.

I still argue that war of the worlds is a terrible example of how people would react to aliens. As really it's just an example of how people react to thinking they're being attacked by a superior force. If the aliens are agressive sure, but anything else is an entirely different kettle of fish. (You kow, I think that's the first time I've used that saying, awesome!)

Either way, if there ARE aliens of any kind, it'll come out eventually one way or another. Better to just rip off the band-aid if you want my opinion. People will react however they will. Better it be at least somewhat controlled then happen unexpectedly by surprise, but whatever.

Which is scarier, the notion of skilled intelligent aliens zooming around the galaxy, or the cold reality that there may be nothing but bugs out there within the vastness of space that humans will EVER explore.

Well. I was going to point out any number of reasons why it has been advantageous to keep the public as uninformed as possible about the alien situation, but so many posters here have already done so, quite effectively.

Kudos to punisher 75, who makes the case clear and simple.

The powers that be cannot and will not tell you what is happening, and that may be because they know too much, or know too little.

And they are right to do so, the American people do NOT want to know.

It would irrevocably change both our understanding of the world, and our standing in it. Just take a look around this forum, the great majority of people in here cannot accept the alien situation, and fight tooth and nail against the obvious.

It's always a bad idea to try to wake somebody who'd rather stay asleep.

If there is the huge coverup, I think they hide it because a whole lot of them will go to prison. No other reason like pretending that humanity won't cope and avoiding mass panic.

They know they will be charged and incarcerated for the heinous crimes committed covering it up.

Another very astute post, and a very good point raised. Decades of witness intimidation and probably far worse, hiding revolutionary technologies, and allowing aliens to abduct millions of Americans and harvest their reproductive cells in exchange for advanced technology.

That's a lot to answer for.

People could accept alien life. Governments can't accept alien life that is here. They have a job to defend their countries from hostile forces, and aliens if they're here are so far advanced that no defense is possible, especially if you believe some of the stories given.

I don't know why, but the arogance in some of people here is so powerful it is just insane. I will break it to you all, but no, people are not complete retards unable to comprehend anything outside of their home, and no, you are not the only enlightened, educated and open minded ones.

There is no point in keeping alien life from public. There would be no panic, or overwelming fear. We do not live in a movie, we are not teenangers from american horror film. Even the most backward, undeveloped redneck would accept this fact after a week. We would start to change our books and the way we think about world in few months. We would not panic like muphets running in circles. If someone is sceptic or religious, it doesn't mean his brain will pop when he meets something contradicting. We adapt since the day we exist.

If someone today proved that monsters are real, few weeks later, we would treat them like any other animal, and few months later we would know exactly how to deal with them. Tiger was a monster at one point in humanity, imagine what first person that saw it and lived to tell about it said to others. Point is, we would not go into coma, or start throwing spit like monkeys because we can't comprehend, everything turns from mysterious to normal in a matter of days if you identify it.

Some of this talk about how people would react... only a really antisocial person, who has no real contant with other human beings would think that way about others.

All this talk about people "not ready" is just made to justify the "oh whole world is not talking about aliens not because they probably do not exist or were not found yet, but because they just don't want to tell us".
