I really cannot argue with any of what you are saying....what it comes down to is maybe i have too much faith in people ..

Ugh. I have faith in people too. I don't think I have enough. I'm a bit jaded. You can't have too much faith in people. Don't invest yourself in people that rob you of yourself. Be open and guarded.

Have faith in people. Trust yourself.

However, they won't release the body cam footage.... yet our own city manager, and police chief have already spoken publicly on the video saying "It's not good" "Someone died who didn't necessarily need to die"

Whether the footage will show Officer Tensing as innocent/guilty...They basically condemned this officer to the public before his chance at a fair trial. So I wish they would just release the video at this point.

It's messed up man. Cops aren't just holy saint like robots. They are people.

I'm picking apart sentences at this point, but come on... did the city manager REALLY need to use the word "necessarily", as if anyone during a "routine" traffic stop needs to die..???

Tensing took a life... of an unarmed man! Let's not feel sorry for Tensing at this point. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say death should have never factored into the equation in this incident.

And no cops aren't just holy saint-like robots... I think you're the first person in the history of the digital age to use those words in a single sentence. They aren't holy saint-like, period. But you're right, they are people. People who should be brought to justice like the rest of society. Unfortunately there's a precedent with cops when it comes to skirting justice.

Lol, when I feel a little ranty I some times use ridiculous groups of words such as "Holy saint-like robots"

But yes, I agree with everything you said.

Even the wording of the people interviewed for this story is pretty disturbing:

"It's not a good situation," Black said. "It's a tragic situation, someone has died that did not necessarily need to die."

Didn't necessarily need to die?
That's severely messed up.

“We're concerned clearly. We're concerned about what could happen in our city. We're hopeful that the people of this great city are reminded that we do things right and that even when an officer may have done something inappropriate that it will be dealt with in an appropriate fashion,” Blackwell said.

Inappropriate?
Groping a lover in public is inappropriate.
Using offensive language around kids is inappropriate.
Shooting an unarmed black man in the face is murder.

I really am baffled by the mentality here, really I am. When even those stepping on eggshells already are making such ridiculous statements, seemingly attempting to diminish the guilt of the person responsible for murder, there is a massive problem that goes far deeper than many will be willing to admit.

Another thing that bears repeating is that this was a college police officer, not a city officer who was implicated in the shooting. I was unaware that college police had any authority outside of the college campus.

Senseless no matter what.

Ah, thank you for the correction.

It is part of the new programming.

Give a guy a gun and a badge and Barney Five becomes a breaking bad Hank.

How many TV shows are there about good police officers?

The all are believing the programming.

Just thought I'd bring you all up to speed. There will be conference this afternoon at about 1pm EDT.

Several of my friends who work downtown told me they have been sent home early.

UC has cancelled all classes after 11am EDT.

My office has said nothing and I'm still sitting down here hoping nothing escalates and I can get home safely.

Some news outlets have mentioned riots might be expected.

Live from Cincinnati, I'm Alee... and this is your ATS update. hah.

Ha, Alee...thanks.

Lets hope calm heads prevail and they are taking appropriate action against the officer involved to help to that end.

Is it just me, or does all this seem like t is purposefully being egged on?

Keep an eye out for busses unloading "protestors."

Much of the violence im Ferguson was attributable to outiside influences from Chicago, in large part.

See this post as an example. There are several more and a few pics that seem to indicate non-local instigators.

I was just about to mention that UC has closed two hours ahead of the announcement.

Keep a low profile.

Oh wow, I never knew that.

Hopefully our city can handle this peacefully, but I feel like there are a lot of people who would rather take advantage of any possible chaos.

Ahabstar and Martin75 thank you. I heard a rumor the conference was pushed back, but as far as I can tell it is still listed for 1pm. If anything changes on an official news source, I'll provide the details.

The body cam footage was shown to the family at 11am EDT. No word from them yet, that I have seen.

As some of you can see, I live in Cincinnati. Obviously I am not hoping to see riots, as I work downtown and this would be both a danger and an inconvenience to me and many others in the town. Possible financial loss to establishments because there is always looting with these riots. Also I am generally supportive of police.

Some people do right, some people make mistakes, and some people are just evil and crazy. All of those people end up in Police uniforms. Every kind. What we need is to seek the truth in not only this matter, but every case of police violence. Sometimes the officers will be in the right, and sometimes they will be in the wrong, and should be dealt with accordingly.

I'm tired of seeing the self hate, the hate of others, and the hate of police in my city.

-End Rant-

-Alee

I couldn't have said it better myself. At the end of the day all police officers are just human beings and are subject to the same personality traits everyone is. We need to hold them all accountable for their actions no matter if they are good or bad. Everyone else has to answer for their actions as should police. Well said Alee....be safe and vigilant up there.

Good call!! No doubt these days there are professional protesters who are brought into already volatile situations to stir it up...It's really a shame that those kinds of people exist but unfortunately it's a reality in todays world.

and thank God I live out in the country...

once again, Cincinnati is holding it's breath for the next batch of riots. IMO cinti has developed a gang problem anyway. I can't remember the last time there was no daily mention of a murder or shooting in the city. It's already a time bomb.

stay safe...

Ok all, as our lovely friend across the pond HumanPLC has pointed out, the live stream of the conference can be found HERE

9 minutes. Let's see what happens.

Now I may or may not be able to listen to it as I am at work, but I will watch it with or without sound.

In the event that I have no sound, I will kindly ask one of you to summarize the events if possible, if not I'll wait for the media summary and share it here.

- Alee
