I-75 Shut Down After Trooper Involved In Shooting

Original story:

North and southbound lanes of I-75 have been shut down for most of Saturday morning after a Florida Highway patrol trooper was shot at during a traffic stop.

The Alachua Sheriff’s Office is now conducting a search for the armed suspect. The trooper was not injured in the incident.

Three high profile incidents in as many days. Theater shooting, an armed man shot in Stuido City, and now this.

Sounds like the man bailed out of his vehicle and took a couple of shots at a state trooper then fled into the nearby woods. He has been located but as of this post has not been taken into custody.

Multiple agencies have responded to Alachua County, Florida. The trooper was not injured but the interstate was shut down for some time while the search continued.

We really need federal decriminalization of marijuana. Everyone needs to chill the fk out.

I should be surprised at something like this, but I'm not. People getting shot or being fired upon seems to be happening all the time in the U.S at the moment.
Living in the U.K, we don't really see much of this sort of thing happening.

We normally shout or swear at a policeman if we can get away with it in traffic

Seriously though, this is a terrible thing that doesn't seem to be going away in the U.S.

What's the odds of him coming out of the woods in a bag...

I'm going 4-8, with a generous 15-1 he is brought out unharmed in cuffs...

I'll give 10-1 he comes out wounded.

High people do stupid s# as well.

I get your sentiment, but I'd hazard a guess that most gang bangers who've taken a pop shot at an officer were as "calm" as anyone can be.

They love a blunt or two.

Recent update says the trooper had stopped to investigate a disabled vehicle and the subject was hiding in a ditch nearby. Opened fire as the trooper approached the vehicle.

ETA: If I read that right. "Working to take him into custody"...maybe they just know where he is is all and it's not over.

Too many unnecessary shootings by police to citizens and citizens to police. Seems to me that life in prison isn't much of a punishment that is feared anymore.

Here's a statement from the news site. Suspect found dead.

"Update 3:24 p.m.The suspect has been found dead after a confrontation between him and the law enforcement divisions on scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the matter. Northbound traffic remains diverted while the FDLE investigation remains on scene."

Well if the suspect is dead. It should be easy to take him into custody... I know, to soon.

Edit: Kali74. The OP's source does not mention marijuana as the reason for this confrontation. Where did you see that? Highly agree with you though. Not being a user of Mary Jane. I still believe you are correct.

The Southbound lanes are open again, but moving very slowly. Northbound is still diverting. You have to get off the interstate at either the 329 or 341 exit.
