Hi all,

I've been reading ATS threads for years but never joined the community.
The other day browsing the Mars Deepzoom I stumbled upon this:

Zoomed

Source

mars.nasa.gov...

*****

Is that some sort of sphere levitating (there is also a perfect-light shadow)?

Waiting comments.

Thats what I thought.
Levitating rocks.

I'm pretty sure the Deepzoom hides more interesting finds.

Excellent (possible) illusion... and welcome!

I believe it's just an odd, very spherical rock with a dark patch in front of it that's not actually its shadow, giving it the illusion of floating... but I am pretty intrigued with some odd seeming archeology and the radioactive residue that is indicative of ancient fusion bombs on Mars... so ... I could be wrong and that could be a probe!

Its an optical illusion.

The second pair of rocks I circled shows the same effect except the "shadow" appears to be offset.

BTW welcome to the site!

Yeah, I thought of that.

But honestly that "shade" under the sphere is deformed like a real shade on the ground. Thats whats really intriguing.
I have no idea what it is, looks like a floating rock.

The second object that you pointed out, doesn't seem to be possible, to me. The shadow that it casts doesn't seem to fit the object, where the first one does. JMO.

I did find something obviously organic in one of the hi-res images someone posted a while back, but that was before I knew how to show people what I was looking at. It was a very small sphere shaped object with uniformed spikes, some sort of cocklebur. I sure wish I could find that image again.

You see those 2 rocks in the bottom left hand corner? One of them is casting a shadow and it seems its not going the same direction as the other 2 objects. They are just rocks look at them, they are the same color as all the other rocks. The dark spots you think are shadows are rocks as well.

You have four posts.
Until you have a minimum of 5 posts, you are limited to posting in this forum.
This one is here for you to introduce yourself. You used it for something else.
Is it really that hard to make 5 posts before breaking the rules?
Welcome to ATS.

Thought this was the best way to introduce myself. My bad.

Sorry.
It's just that the minimum used to be twenty posts and it was lowered to 5. Now it seems like that is too high of a hurdle. It is just a pet peeve of mine lately.

I honestly hope that you get along well here, I have no doubt that you will.

I will not comment on your Mars rocks. All I have ever seen in Mars rover photos have been rocks.

Even more intriguing is the shadow of the second floating rock you circled looks like a mini pyramid, lol

The rock itself looks out of place, it doesn't look like the other rocks.
