hi - as it is a topic de-jour i suppose i better put out one of my rare threads

i have always been troubled by the peculiar stance of many christians towards homosexuality . or rather :

the special pleading that homosexuality attracts

this is not the thread to discus IF homosexuality is a sin etc - the fact that christianity condems it is accepted [ for the purpose of this thead ] ` as is `

its the cherry picking of the condemnation - when blind eyes are turned to sin after sin after sin - that gets me .

if you actuslly believe the doctrines and dogmas of the christian faith - sin is a absolutly level playing feild - there is no biblical hierachy of sin - with one transgression judged " worse " than another .

but even if the radicalised extreme [ like westboro baptists ] are ignored - the mainstream christian public reaction to homosexuality is still disproportionatly judgemental .

starting with the cherry picking of what sin should even be condemed in the modern world -hint - if you want to wear poly cotton - drop the 10 commandments too

but the most ergegious filing is the seeming inability to forgive - adulterers , divorcees , liars , thieves etc etc - all get forgiven - excused as weakness - etc etc etc - but the vitriol against homosexuals is unrelenting and unforgiving

and most dammingly the refusal to accept theat the doctine of eternal forgiveness . homoxesuals are going to hell - is a common mantra - WTF ???? what hapened to the principle of salvation through christ ??????????????

christians seem to have taken judgement into thier worn hands - condeming homosexuals personally - while granting the prospect of forgiveness to all other sinners

one has to wander why ????????????

i dont have any answers

does anyone in ATS land ???

I think it is because most religions in the past wanted to grow in power and influence so having more followers was important as was big families. You see this among Christians, Catholics, Muslims etc. They wanted breeders for more followers. Catholics have gone so far as to disapprove of even birth control.

I think that these views are probably antiquated in the modern world, but they have remained part of the religious traditions of many main-stream religions.

That's my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Well, my take on it is

A) they feel they are morally superior
B) they want people they don't like to burn in hell
and C) they're afraid it is contagious

but they will TELL homosexuals: "I'm worried for your soul."

homosexuality is gross and wrong IN MY OPINION. It may or may not be a sin but it is certainly an abomination to witness erm them attempting to procreate. At least in my opinion. If i were to walk into a room of 2 gay dudes go at it without any covers i would be scarred for life. And no amount of political correctness will ever change that.

So again in my humble opinion i think Christians deserve +1 for their campaign against Gays.

Can't force this straight male to not be uncomfortable or nauseous if i happen to see it.

I had this dream and, guy said to me.
"you judge all these people, but look at you! You do this and this... "

Anyway just a story,
of a god smacked hypocrite,
working on the good bit of me.

Meanwhile I will love and forgive my brothers and sisters.

I'll take a stab at defending Christians:

Many will tell you "hate the the sin love the sinner", so not all are so hateful, just like any other sect of any major group, the radicals making the noise get the attention.

Further, from their religion, homosexuality(particularly the sex act) is a continual sin, making it much different than many other sins.

To add to the above statement, since gay marriage is a relatively "new" hot topic has been given so much media and social exposure, you are bound to see an influx in resistance while things as divorce have become a norm. In a couple more decades most Christians won't bat an eyelash at homosexuality.

Public polls show that the support for gay marriage has steadily increased along with the accepting it as morally ok.

It is not just the Christian Scripture that condemns it. Original Judaism of the Torah does so, too, and that is where the Christians got it from. The obvious example being God's punishment of Sodom. We all know what the word sodomy means and where the word originates, right there in the Bible. It was not just meaning men with men either, even between a man and woman it was seen as a sin.

I don't do it, not with a man or woman, but if someone else wants to do that as part of their expression I have no right to interfere. I'll look the other way.

ps; Some gay people don't practise sodomy, so it is a sweeping generalisation to say that they do. Also, nowhere in the Bible does it say trans-genderism is a sin. That is not mentioned anywhere in the Old Testament or the New, not from Christ's instructions or Moses'. So if you wanna wear a skirt, guys, or if you want to put that suit and tie on, ladies, apparently God has not decided to see it as worth mentioning as such.

Sorry to be such a lawyer, Oh Mighty One!

if you actually believe the doctrines and dogmas of the christian faith - sin is a absolutely level playing field - there is no biblical hierachy of sin - with one transgression judged " worse " than another .

I was raised in church so I know how they are taught.

Everyone has sinned so much they are going to hell, right?

Only those who "accept Jesus as their personal Savior" will be forgiven for all that sin, past and future, being spared (saved) on 'Judgement Day'.

This who don't "come to Jesus" are still unforgiven and won't be forgiven until they do. Once they do, their sins past and present are going to be forgiven on that day when … "the savior wii intercede on their behalf", or something to that effect.

Kind of a hypocrisy, you're right. It gives Christians superiority to look down and judge others here and now because they are already 'forgiven' and 'saved', while 'unbelievers' aren't.

Notice the use of the word unbelievers, implying that you have to believe this for it to be true. Thats all thats required…

just believing it.

there are lots of continual sins that Christians turn a blind eye to. Remarriage after divorce, for example, is continuous adultery according to Jesus. Then there's the perceived sins that go along with various jobs, working on the Sabbath, serving cheeseburgers or shrimp cocktails.....there are too many to enumerate.

Why on Earth would you ever see it? When would you EVER have occasion to witness it? Or walk into a room where sexual intimacy is occurring?

I suppose if you accidentally ran across some raunchy porn or something, that would be one thing - but if you can't close your eyes fast enough to keep from falling apart, well, then, don't know what to tell you.

Yet another thread stirring the pot of hate.

According to theory and psychology, the fact is that people probably dislike homosexuality because it is associated to anal sex, which over the course of history has brought some conclusions: it is not intended by nature and isn't healthy.

Human nature is hard wired through genetic, inherited and folk memory to think in terms of survival. That which is contrary to survival is discriminated against.

Homosexuality on a biological level is not conducive to survival, in terns of procreation and the self. It isn't peculiar, it is human nature.

The abstract for the 1976 journal article published in Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science entitled The gay bowel syndrome: clinico-pathologic correlation in 260 cases describes gay bowel syndrome in the following manner:
“ The clinical and pathological findings in a group of 260 homosexual men comprising 10% of a private proctologic practice are reviewed. A clinical pattern of anorectal and colon diseases encountered with unusual frequency in these homosexual patients is termed the gay bowel syndrome. The clinical diagnoses in decreasing order of frequency include condyloma acuminata, hemorrhoids, nonspecific proctitis, anal fistula, perirectal abscess, anal fissure, amebiasis, benign polyps, viral hepatitis, gonorrhea, syphilis, anorectal trauma and foreign bodies, shigellosis, rectal ulcers and lymphogranuloma venereum.[8]

In a slide presentation titled “Out2Enroll: The Affordable Care Act and the LGBT Communities,” prepared for a Sept. 12 White House briefing on Obamacare and the LGBT community, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health counted 8 million Americans as gay, lesbian or bisexual. With another 700,000 regarded as transgender, Johns Hopkins estimates about 2.84 percent of the U.S. population is LGBT.

Since the rise of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, Centers for Disease Control studies have shown that more than 60 percent of all HIV/AIDS infections – 63 percent in 2010 – are caused by homosexual acts between men.

The second most frequent cause of HIV/AIDS infection is the sharing of hypodermic needles among drug addicts.

The CDC estimates that currently there are about 1.1 million people in the U.S. living with HIV/AIDS. About 1 in 6 who are afflicted is unaware of it.

The statistics indicate the disease is disproportionately prevalent among African-Americans, with more African-American heterosexual women being infected by their bisexual male partners than in the white community.

“Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM), particularly young black/African American MSM, are most seriously affected by HIV,” the CDC concluded in a study of new HIV infections in 2010. “By race, blacks/African Americans face the most severe burden of HIV.”

The CDC noted the estimated incidence of HIV has remained stable in recent years, leveling off at a rate of 50,000 new HIV infections per year.

“In 2011, an estimated 49,237 people were diagnosed with HIV infection in the United States,” the CDC reported. “In that same year, an estimated 32,052 were diagnosed with AIDS. Overall, an estimated 1,155,792 people in the United States have been diagnosed with AIDS.”

Here in the UK there are regular parks that are used for ''cottaging'' at night and there have been incidents of it being witnessed by innocent people walking past during the day.

Also, apparently, Christ sent ol' Pete a dream saying that it was ok to eat pigs an' all. Thank goodness because I can't resist a bacon sandwich once in a while. Also, on the Sabbath Christ put his mates to work, again saying that things that must be done on that day must be done. He was bringing a bit of common sense to the robotic dictates of His predecessors. I still reckon if we had a day off each week and gave the earth a day to recover from too much human industry and activity it would an environmentally healthy idea. Giving a field a rest one year in seven seems pretty good common sense, too. We know what we do to the ground with our intensive farming, never letting it rest.

Yeah, and here in the US there are parks where homeless people sleep, and 'vacant' houses that are crack houses and meth dens.

Simple again: don't go to that area.

OK, make a thread about murder, and I condemn murder. Make a thread about rape, and I condemn rape. Make a thread about theft, and I condemn theft. Make a thread about adultery, and I condemn adultery. Make a thread about divorce, and I condemn divorce.

What more do you want me to do?

But since most threads these days about the subject you are sick of seeing me tell you what Christianity teaches about the act ... You ignore the rest.

Make some threads about them and we can discuss them. They are also equally sinful. There are you happy?

I mentioned it as some of those parks are walkways from urban areas to town, they are meant for the general public and have kids play areas.

Are you suggesting the general public and kids avoid them for the sake of ''cottaging''? How about public toilets in supermarkets are those out of bounds?

They suggest areas to each other on websites, it is disgusting.

Directions are as follows for those who do not know the area, look on Multimap and type in Kenilworth Gardens (Greenwich) which is off Shooters Hill, on the South East London/Kent Borders. Turn left into Kenilworth Gardens and left again down the drive to the car park. Best suggestion is to park on the far left hand side, on the grass area which is just off the car park, near the wooded area. Good dogging action here, a well kept secret (until now!).

Update: the carpark near the cafe on Shooters Hill is closed @ night, although the one further down is OK, with entrance next to Woods/School.

Rochester

Lay-by just before the new bypass on Gravesend Road near Strood, the A226. Action most nights after 11pm.

Shooters Hill

The first carpark up Shooters Hill from Greenwich (Oxleas Woods, see above for full info). Some couples having daytime affairs.

Shoreham Woods

Shoreham woods near Junction 4 of M25 is a good place, fairly quiet but some action. Shoreham woods ( Brown picnic signs ) located off A224. Leave M25 @ J4 up to first r/bout, sharp left on to A224 to Halstead/Badgers Mount. 2 miles to first r/bout, turn left into small country lane. Shoreham woods on right set back off road. If you end up going back under M25 you have missed it! During the day this is a well frequented "normal" picnic site with kids & couples really walking their dogs etc. However by night this has got to be the best Kent dogging site! It is set back off the road, so mainbeam brigade have to negotiate a winding approach road which does not illuminate the whole area as there are loads of recessed parking bays. There are woods nearby for the outdoor types who like their dogging action au natural. Even picnic benches so you can avoid the damp grass! A Doggers paradise.

Uh, yes he did.

8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

If one's partner cheats and you can't handle it or if they die that's cool with Christ. Verily I say unto you.

Yes, widows are supposed to marry their husbands' brother. And, yes, according to Jesus, it's okay to divorce and remarry IF and only IF your spouse cheated on you. But, you may not divorce and remarry for "irreconcilable differences".
