Trump as president?
He has a better chance of being the official spokesperson of Corona beer.

I sincerely hate the guy as I know he's a huckster and fraud. But so far I know he's running anti immigrant anti establishment loser McCain. Good enough for me.

And it was hilarious how both sides pounced on his anti pow comment. They were just lying in wait for that and God it was lame. watching all of them tweet their pc bs. Obviously trump just talks # and he got caught with his pants down on that one. But damn I'm so tired of people making an off the cuff comment seem to mean anything. It's as superficial as not voting for someone bc they broke into a sweat.

More on topic. I've seen a recent interview w the don where he said no way to third party, has that changed?

I'd bet money that Trump and Hilary are in cahoots because Trump running as an independent would seal the deal for Hilary just like Ross Perrot did for her husband.

Ugh, I can't believe people are actually supporting Trump...

I hope he quits soon.

I think they are thinking an enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Not to worry i still think he will be out by the end of the month. I think he still has to disclose a detailed financial report by this month and not the one page summary he did.

The op believes that if Trump runs as an independent he could win the election. Here is the problem to that and why if he does, it will go badly for him and the Republican Party and here is why:

If history serves as proof to this, one need only look at the last time something like this happened. It was an election unlike any other. There were 4 candidates that were running. On independent who did not really win, one Democrat, and 2 republicans. However, one of them was not happy, and he ran as another party, and then it ended up splitting the republican vote. The winner was the democrat, and his name was Woodrow Wilson. The republican that split the vote was Teddy Roosevelt.

Trump and the Republican Party has a major problem, one is image. The Republicans have already sent 10% of the population to vote for the Democrats, due to their nasty rhetoric and fear passing of laws to prevent same sex marriage. And instead of letting things die down, they keep making waves in that area all upset and hurt over the court’s decision. So that is further pushing the LGBT community to the other side and those who are their friends and those family members who would support them. That may not seem a lot, as the evangelicals would more than make up that amount.

Then comes in Trump, and this is where it is has gotten messy and here is what the issue is. While Trump has stated some things that are true and he has some valid points, ultimately what he did was insult 2 other groups, one being the Hispanic and the immigrant communities and the military vets. So the Hispanic/Latino community makes up a good 17% of the vote, the military vets make up a good 2%. In short with the bad choices in words, he has sent a good 29% of the population to the Democrats right away, along with a significant population who support are friends and family along with them. The numbers are not there.

And if he splits the republican vote, then neither he or any of the republicans will be able to get the number of votes to make the required number of votes in the Electoral college. The only real way that Trump can win, is that he is going to have to show and convince that he is the only person that can do the job and win the rest of the population over to him. And so far that is going badly.

Actually, you'd be surprised about the Hispanic vote. I came across many comments on a Facebook post where many Hispanic people said that they are Hispanic, and will vote for Trump.

That was merely an observation. I'm not a supporter, nor am I a hater of Trump. My ex went to New York Military Academy, which Trump is an alumni of. She always said that he would never put any money into the school. I don't know how much of that is true, my ex hates everything.

What puzzles me is that people are so concerned about the democrats winning, Why? Regardless which party is in control you get the same thing:

1. Bigger gov't: Bush-Republicans created Homeland Security and never have shrunk gov't from what I have seen for over 2 decades. Rubio and other republicans sided with big gov't and lobbyist to ensure States didn't have a right to decide if they wanted to label GMO.

2. Less personal rights: Bush-Republicans created the patriot act.

3. ANTI free market: Bush and republicans used tax payers money to select the winners and losers of the market when they started the bailouts.

4. Corporate Friendly laws: Republicans sided with Comcast Obamas buddy buddy against net neutrality which was anti republican. The internet is not a commodity that you purchase at best buy. Its an economic world market place. Giving control to the ISP would have enabled control of the market.

5. More taxes and regulations: When was the last time that the republicans decreased taxes or de regulated anything of significance?

The Democrats do the exact same thing. The only difference between the two party is words. They are like two car salesman that tell you what you want to here on opposite sides but in the end they are selling you the same car from the same car dealer [lobbiest].

If you vote for a DNC or GOP candidate at the end of the day you are voting for the lobbyist candidate.

Keep voting two party system

I am not so sure about the Hispanic vote. Trump in his first speech insulted and the entire Hispanic community. With any large scale numbers of immigrants, one is bound to get both the good and the bad, and in short, he is stating that those who are not good are the ones coming in, and very few are good. That is insulting, and I for one am sorry that a person like that stated such. And if that was not good enough, when one of the major network that caters specifically to the hispanic and latino populations is not going to work with the man or air him, he will be hard press to capture the majority of the votes for such.

I watched this interview with Anderson Cooper, what he says is that he plays the game but it's a screwed game and he wants to change it. Of course he pays lobbyist, that's how the system works. That's how you need to play to be rich and successful at the moment. At least he can admit it to my face rather than ignoring the questions and keep the statue quo.

Do you think Trump can win 270 electoral votes?

The Democrats start with 243 electoral votes, they only need to secure an additional 24 to win the White House from "swing states".

Really?

He is much better than hitlery Clinton.

Much better jeb bush.

Actually runs a viable entity, and can't be bought.

Once you have that much money..... You really don't need a high paying job given to you after leaving office.

So lobbying doesn't work on him.

That is the best credentials of any candidate so far.

Sure, Trump has money. It isn't money he's after though. Trump would want something more lasting than money...power.

You see, truly rich people don't use money the same way we little people use money. Do you think if Rupert Murdoc wants a Bently he actually pays for one? No! They'll give him one so they can say that among their customers is Rupert Murdoc, it's great advertising. In turn, Murdoc will do a favor for Bently down the road.

Power opens doors, it goes beyond money. Only little people and semi-rich people chase money around. Really wealthy people understand that money buys you a McMansion, but power buys you the old, stone castle that lasts for generations.

Those "jobs" that politicians get after leaving office have perks that far outweigh any monetary salary they get. It isn't only for the money a politician will work as a consultant or lobbyist after leaving office. Networks of power open up to you when you work in those fields.

No, Trump can be bought -- just not by a stack of cash.

With the way he has been running his mouth I'm surprised he was "Ahead" as some would say. So with all his comments put together who would have rightfully voted for him? I'm sure there would be some but would there really be so much as to get him actually elected?

Does anyone actually really think he would be a good president?.
I don't think I can think of many worse candidates in fact this frightens me more then any doom porn on ATS.

Agreed. Not sure if this is more funny - or worrying - from this side of the big pond.

If this was real though, Trump would have better chances than Ron Paul to become *the* isolationist President for the U.S. Just imagine Trump on the international stage for one evening...

Well Arnold and Ventura both won elections they ran in.

Why are we so surprised that a well-known guy like Trump gains support? US politics is nothing more than a high school popularity contest, on a nation-wide scale. It's just like voting for class president. People are more likely to put their vote behind someone they know and who makes the most noise.

It's amazing how everyone ignores the fact this guy is a multi-billionaire and has deep ties with corporate America. This community complains how corporate interests and the elite are running this country, yet now some members want this very influence to directly run our government? With a huge pompous ego to boot?

All I can say, if Trump is elected president don't complain when you see corporate America being treated like royalty and the middle and lower class complaints fall on deaf ears. It's why millionaire politicians ignore the issues affecting most Americans. Simply put, if you're not a millionaire you'll be screwed!!!
