I was unaware of this treaty. According to the article, NATO is compliant and is a participant. I am wondering how long this treaty will last before it goes south like everything else these days.

So are the countries involved "“Russia will observe all conditions of the international treaty and this will be monitored by Estonian and Finnish specialists on board," said Ryzhkov.

Russia has been making observation flights over Estonia since 2005." From your link. So, I am, not finding a problem.

Yep it's called the open sides treaty. And everyone does it. That is why when you take a source like Baltic news. You should research it before you post it without all the pertinent data .

I don't understand your reply, I mentioned all sides take part in my initial comment. My question was, how long before this agreement falls apart? These countries have all been pointing fingers etc.

The Open Skies Treaty was about trust generation so doubtful that it would be cancelled unless Russia started to take the proverbial and walk outside the spirit of the Treaty.

That said, if Russia continues to antagonise neighbours they may choose to unilaterally suspend the Treaty as an indication of their growing annoyance at belligerence. I could see Poland doing so if push came to shove.

''Observing'' what? What's on the ground in Finland and Estonia that they'll be observing?

I will much rather have them make a few overflights in aircraft where liaison officers are watching them than even more of their unacknowledged representatives going around.
