I see a plethora of posts stating various doom porn du jour, usually that some awful terrible thing will befall the planet Earth. I click on the link to see where the article came from. It is always some website I have never heard of and would not get my news from if it were the last website on Earth!

There is no science, logic, or common sense, just a bunch of Armageddon crap! In many cases it's a blog from some nutcase that has been endlessly debunked. Even worse, sometimes it's from a known hoax site like sorchal faal or BIN.

But when challenged, the people who post this crap say "you're a shill/ sheep lie/govy agent".

Whatever you want to call those of us living in the real world.

I just find it annoying to no end. Have some common sense! Consider the source! Ugh.

Okay, sheepishly. I have only been exposed to the internet since 2011. I didn't know there was this industrial lie complex going that so many seem enamored to.

I bought into some crap I saw on various DupeTubes and thank you, somebody who knew always came along to point out the BS. Now I know the difference and the scams. Or have others to point it out. Like on here.

Newer people might not be so "net wise".

So the only website worth looking at is one that you have been or know of. Isn't that a bit all high and mighty of you. I'm not saying there aren't crap websites our there but just because you don't know them it doesn't mean they are not important. Sure people make silly claims but you could just except it and close the thread. Have a lovely day or night.

I would like to offer you a piece of information which may somewhat assuage your annoyance with the types you refer to.

Common sense is a misnomer. It is, in fact, one of the least common things in human history. Good sense is hard to come by, which is precisely why Galileo and Copernicus were such important figures. They had common sense, and everyone around them did not. Do not feel that some people are missing out on the stuff! It has ever, and will ever be the case that common sense as we falsely call it, is handed out to a rare few people, and not given to all.

With respect however to the thrust of your OP, I could not agree more. The state of some peoples higher reasoning ability in these matters is something shocking, and it would be nice to wake up in the morning without having some utter nonsense from a clearly fallacious, or maliciously obfuscatory source, plastered all over the new topic page.

No, I never said that. Please don't put words in my mouth. Yeah, many times when I see this, once I look at the source, I close the thread and move on.

a reply to: ChiefD There are many sources ATS have found to be hoax sites and remove posts/threads that rely upon those exclusively. There are a lot if msm sites that beleive ATS is bunk, and non-msm sites. You can't imagine what is said about ATS out in the wild internet. But, within reason, we should be able to quote odd sources, whether you like them or not.

You should take it as an exercise in critical thinking, if you do not care for what is posted you have options.

Have you ever considered disproving the information, instead of attacking the source?

If I post an article by Sorcha Faal saying the sky is blue somewhere on earth today, will you automatically disbelieve it because of the source? Or will you check for yourself, to see if the claim is true or false? As I have said several times previously, in various ways...

The easy way to keep from having to vet information that challenges your personal bias, is to attack the source. That way you don't have to deal with any information that might change your mind. (You in general. Not you personally.)

I'm with you OP. Do you also find it annoying when people cast
threads, that belly ache and moan about threads that annoy them
personally? It's like they expect everyone to come to them and make
sure thier most recent effort, doesn't annoy them personally. In fact,
I even hate in thread posts of such an annoyance. I mean when do
they finally realise nobody gives a fiddlers #### what annoys them?

Right?

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. And will add a rantellet in a moment.

I never, well - hardly even, quote a source that doesn't have enough information or links to their souces of information. That's only a first step. I tend to follow up to the original source if I cant then I look into ownership/sponsership of a given site. I do give weight to traditional sources such as newspapers, journals, magizines and books that have a tradition of editorial review of facts but that is no longer a certain thing with the Big Media (read Business) consolidation taking place. I, personally and from my experience, tend to take more seriously items on towards the left of center because such sources tend towards more factual and multisided content - though not always (see media consolidation above).

Rantlette:

I regularly ask ATS, and do so again, for independant right of center news and commentary sources with solid fact checking and sources so that I can get a more nuanced understanding of differing arguements.

The only responses I receive are to single agenda, privately funded think tanks and "info-tainment" sites.

The Nation Magizine used to have intelligent and reasoned pieces from the right but rarely does any longer as they are hard to find.

Where are the good sources with solid facts and well reasoned arguments from the right? Why can't anyone provide me with sources for such?

This is the rant forum, where this type of thread is supposed to belong. If YOU don't like it, then why don't you not whine and moan in a place meant for whining and moaning. Or is that too much common sense (which has been stated so eloquently above) is rarely common.

And read it again.
Oh and my post is a rant.

Yes, the only websites people should trust and get their news from are the big corporate sites like Fox, CNN, etc. Google is huge and can be trusted, as well as anything from Apple or Microsoft.

Not all web sites were meant to be included in that description. Surely you knew that. That member has a legitimate gripe against known hoax sites and uninformed blogs with no valid information or verifiable sources. The OP didn't say any websites they don't know are hoaxes or even imply that.

My thoughts as a NOOB:

It has become apparent that if I would have posted a thread 6 months ago from one of those "known hoaxer" sites, which are unknown to me as hoax sites, detailing how the Confederate flag would be a target of the MSM and labeled a symbol of racial discrimination and stores like Walmart or Amazon would remove them from their inventory over night...my OP would have been moved to the HOAX forum. Nowfast forward to today when that OP wasn't a hoax.

Does the proven factual story get shifted back from the HOAX forum and those who scoffed the thread have to clean the ATS restrooms with their toothbrushes?..

Funny that if NASA says something that is proven false then nothing they say can be trusted ever again but a known hoaxer or hoax site should be given the benefit of the doubt. Interesting...
