Australia will always be confused with new zealand,

You mean New Zealand will always be mistaken for Australia.

...either way...the common denominated 'mistake' arises because of a 'symbol' of colonisation...

are you absolutely certain that removing the union while not at sea is not a jack portion of the australian flag will indeed upset those folks that would still like to be part of the commonwealth of the irrelevant defunct british empire? I imagine there would still be some australians that like the reminder of our racist colonial past represented on our flag but for me personally i would like a flag that sets us apart from the other commonwealth countries that we dominate in sports every year 4 years.

Well, the Australian flag is based on the British Blue ensign....a Royal Navy protocol identification.
We also Have a Red ensign and white ensign on our Navy ships.

We are already an independent country, have been since 1901.

We have cultural, political, and genealogical ties to the UK.

The Union Jack represents the "Tribes" of the British Isles together....except the Irish.

The British people have direct ties to Germany, Holland, Greece, Russia, Poland, French, Romans etc through arranged marriages and various waves of invaders and immigrants etc.
The UK is really just a Microcosm of ALL of Europe, with tribal influences of all Europe.

Australia is a version of the UK, just like the US, but the US lost its way somehow.
.

Our political system lends its origin to those 1000 years that the UK/Europe took to develop a system of running a group of different tribes with different ideas and ideals and trying to make a success of it.
Sometimes it hasnt worked, England etc have had Revolutions, Republics, Royals, Religious nutters, then back again.

I'd like to think, here in Australia, that we have tried to take the best parts of that history, and adapt them to our style.
Sometimes it doesnt work.

But unlike our other rabble European cousins, the American Colonies, we havent had...
1..A Bloody Independence war killing 1000s.
2..A Bloody Civil War killing 100s,of 1000s.
3..A destruction of indigenous peoples, lying, making treatys then breaking them etc.
4..A war with Mexico/Spain and the French to grab more land and resources.
5..Steal millions of poor black fellas from the other side of the World and make them slaves forever.
6..Assassinate the President if we dont like him. (we use sophisticated things like VOTING!!)
7..Have one of the most corrupt, money driven "Senate" systems in the World.
8..etc etc you get the point.

So if you think Australia is hard done by, in following a system that took a long time to work out, and seems to be working relatively successfully.
Then, I hope your idea is much better.

Actually thats not too bad, but looks like a Qantas Flying along.
We need to get away from putting our animals on any flags.
I remember on 60 Minutes show, 20+ or so years ago,......sorry Americans, but they interviewed Americans and showed them a picture of a Koala and asked them." What is this animal called?"

They all answered..."Oh that's a Qantas" !!! no kidding.
At the time Qantas had a huge advert campaign featuring a Koala symbol.......well you know..
.
And for any Americans that may read this...Qantas means ' Queensland And Northern Territory Air Service"
Not Koala.
.

Not bad..... but I'd still vote for the Eureka flag over all else. It truly represents Australian values and culture more than anything else.

The highest minimum wage in the world and some of the best workers rights. Also, independence gained without a single bullet fired (technically, lol).

The Eureka flag , perhaps needs to be incorporated somehow although i am not sure how , also the traditional landowners need to be represented . That or we just need to break away and start afresh .

Since the original miners revolt at Eureka, the flag, born out of adversity, continues to be regarded by some as a symbol of nationalism closely associated with this struggle for democracy and unity.

In the event the design of the Australian National Flag is ever reviewed some republicans support the Eureka Flag being one of the options in a plebiscite.

Says it all really . Although i would play with the colours a little .

I think you have forgotten, or not been told, the Brits had their hands full with that Austrian corporal, and having their cities bombed, such as London, Coventry, Southampton, plus the RAF airfields, food ships being sunk, which was the one thing that actually worried Churchill.

I can't see why anybody would want to change what is an amazing flag already, the flags above look not so cool. Plus when I meet an Australian it's like talking to someone from just a different county within the UK, we are pretty much the same people, language, legal system, culture, sports mad, fair, why change things when it works. Loads of Aussies live here for a time, some permanent, loads of Brits to Australia. If it ain't broke why fix it?

Very true, some people are getting Australia becoming a republic mixed up with changing the flag.

If it ain't broke why fix it?

Some people pushing for a republic are wanting to be elected to the position of Grand Bunyip of Australia!

Australia is an independent country, well up to a point, well its not really. It turns out that our government is a privately owned business that is registered on the new york stock exchange, as are all the government departments and as are our banks.

I think that makes us a privately owned country of the Federal Reserve.

The government has usurped the constitution by changing it in a way other than is provided for in the constitution. The courts are no longer there deliver decisions for purpose of peace, justice and good government. They are now there to protect the system, the banks and the privately owned "government departments."

What a silly story - where did you get such nonsense from? It sounds like OPPT or freeman nonsense!

I think that makes us a privately owned country of the Federal Reserve.

The government has usurped the constitution by changing it in a way other than is provided for in the constitution.

Care to show us exactly where that was done?

lol, maybe so old mate. But we had our hands full with jap fighter pilots bombing us and the Brits refused to allow our troops to return home to protect our own boarders.

But.... truthfully, it's all a bit of tongue and cheek. The whole thing happened over 70 years ago, so no hard feelings.

My desire to get rid of the union flag and adopt the Eureka flag as our national emblem has nothing to do with being anti-British. I just think we've reached a point where we need our own identity.

Braveheart style, A COUNTRY OF OUR OWN!

The reason that Australia is not a republic is because politicians offered a terrible republic framework that gave them to much power over the people
There are some seriously silly people who want to be a republic at the cost of freedom.

What I cant understand is why Western Australia hasnt seceded from the other half of the whole sorry mess East of the rabbit proof fence

You can be a Republic and still be in the Commonwealth, in fact, if us Poms ever manage to extricate ourselves from the EU, you might find it suddenly has more meaning as we'll be able to sort out a proper, commonwealth wide free trade deal.

There's no Koori tribe, ya tripper. It's a term Aboriginals use to refer to themselves, usually in south eastern Australia. Though, the term is starting to be adopted by Aboriginals in other parts of Australia. I've heard Aboriginals in the NT refer to themselves as Koori.

That is just simply wrong and absurd.

You should probably research and then apologise for calling someone a tripper

Koori is a tribal name associated with Victorian and NSW aboriginals

Sheesh the arrogance coupled with the ignorance

Other names used by Australian Indigenous people[edit]
There are a number of other names from Australian Aboriginal languages commonly used to identify groups based on geography:
Anangu in northern South Australia, and neighbouring parts of Western Australia and Northern Territory
Bama in northern Queensland
Murri in southern Queensland
Nunga in southern South Australia
Nyoongar in southern Western Australia
Palawah (or Pallawah) in Tasmania.
Wangai in central Western Australia
Yamatji in the Gasgoyne and Pilbara regions of Western Australia
Yolngu in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory
