"I'm Offended That Everyone Is Offended By Something": Vet's Epic Post On Political Correctness

This comes from an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army by the name of Jordan Thomson. Mr. Thomson is also a graduate of the University of Alabama.

Fed up with all of the political correctness and constant complaining by people on his Facebook newsfeed, Mr. Thomson decided to put his frustrations about living in an overly politically-correct USA...into words.

This resonated with many of my own thoughts and feelings...and seems to represent just good straight common sense. Actually, it may appeal to a surprisingly wide array of people in this country...from many places within the American political spectrum.

Common sense is like that sometimes.

I’m offended that everyone is offended by something.

I’m offended that because I’m a white male, people automatically classify me as privileged, regardless of knowing where I’ve come from or what I’ve been through.
I’m offended that our First Amendment has turned into freedom of speech [just as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings].

I’m offended that people assume I’m racist because I believe in economic development by way of Capitalism and a free-market economy.

Yeah, I agree with all his points, really.

I'm just interested in that last sentence and how his chain of command is going to receive it...

Can I just say that I would like to pay more taxes if it went directly to soldiers pockets.

The rest of the budget can do its a thing but I would like to pay a guaranteed percent of tax direct to soldiers pay and returning soldiers care.

They deserve it.

I get frustrated having to say the same things
over and over to debunk the bigoted and
prejudiced politically correct people's

political affiliation, and religion.
This is bigotry and hatred at its worst.

The politically correct tend to overgeneralize

about people and actually become not only bullies,

but behave exactly like the bigots and judgmental people

they claim others to be.

Except the politically correct are far worse,

they want to make their bigoted and judgmental assumptions

about people they know nothing of and punish them

through job loss or

actual jail time because of imagined thought crimes.

I'm offended by the fact that we have to spend time on making laws that support all these "fringe " lifestyles instead of taking care of more serious matters. Just wastin' our time and money.

He starts with this,

I’m offended that people who are too afraid to ask for food stamps, disability, or unemployment (because they don’t want a handout) are probably the ones who could use it most, yet the majority of recipients who do in fact receive handouts abuse their “privilege” and continue to make frivolous purchases.

Which is wrong, the working poor are the majority folks that use government assistance not abusers.

And ends with this,

I’m offended by people who vote for a person based on the party they represent, the race or gender, age or a religion of a candidate… instead of how the candidate proposes to address each issue, respectively. I’m offended by people who aren’t open-minded and think they’re always right, no matter what. I’m offended by people who don’t listen and read and legitimately try to understand unfamiliar concepts before brushing them off. I’m offended of what our country has become.

He is offended... by himself!

Considering he said "I’m offended by people who don’t listen and read and legitimately try to understand unfamiliar concepts before brushing them off." then gets offended because people see the ugliness associated with the confederate flag, i can see this piece is nothing but a rant.

And from the talking points and issues he raised, it's a rant directed at black people but he just doesn't want or can't come out and say black people.

And by the way, solider, black people STILL have mixed feelings about that American flag.

Nice emotional piece, but it is filled with a lot of assumptions and half-truths.

I'm offended that this person seems to be playing the victim card while being offended.

I'm offended that we spend our time trying to make sure people can be free to live whatever lifestyle they want, when we shouldn't have to pass such laws when the constitution says that All Men are Created Equal.

Good on you. I have always thought that if there was a compensation payment for people taking offence and claim ed to have been wounded by it, then there would be takers 0 and there sure aren both for the money and the power to stop others saying what they think.

I was brought up with saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but names never hurt me." Quite true

However, I would also add Beware the power of the weak, they will get their voices heard no matter what it takes.

The pen is mightier than the sword and Jordan Thomson has used it brilliantly I suspect more of us are offended like him that the so-called victims.

What a load of whinging nonsense, but if it comes from a vet, I guess it must be treated more importantly than the opinion of the average joe. Seems like the guy is moaning about his own sort. Whiners. Bore off

I’m offended that fast food workers get paid more than my soldiers yet still expect to get paid more than nurses.

Well the soldiers that get paid the same as fast food workers have their housing and food paid for by the military, so that point is not correct.
But soldiers and marines do deserve to get paid more.
And if they live off base, the military pays for that too.
As well as healthcare...

I do agree that PC can go to far, but acting like we have the right to go around and say what ever we want and receive no push back and when it does come cry how the PC police are here gets really old

'Soldiers'
'Non-Voters'
'Homophobs'
Black
White

Why is it so hard to understand that in every category- there are people.
Good or Bad.
I try very hard not to do this but years of being 'trained' to group people has to be unlearned. Some police are corrupt, some are just. Some homeless people i give money to buy booze, some buy food. Some people need help, some abuse help. There will never be a way to correct a group of people to be exactly what you want them to be. I will be the first to state my beliefs, or give my advice, but you do not need to believe as I do, or take my advice. Individualism is disappearing.
The hardest thing I have an issue with is grouping the mainstream media as one big evil, and politicians.
Otherwise I typically judge people by the way they treat me, not their beliefs, military history, professions, or race or religion. People can say or do just about anything they want, as long as they are not imposing violence and hate in my life or my family. What ever happened to being able to agree to disagree.

I'm offended by people who are offended by someone exercising their freedom of speech to say what offends them.

That's one of the biggest problems with society today. We're being divided by ideologies. It's a breeding ground for hatred and has become a cancer to society. It boggles my mind that people can hate another solely on the fact of what they think or believe. Which in return becomes tangible on a personal level and results in self justification for their acts of hatred. People are so busy pointing fingers and judging others over their differences, that they fail on all levels to see the similarities. Judgmental people suck.

And I'm offended that he's offended by everyone being offended by everyone else.

See the thing is, we have a problem taking things personally in society today.

When we take things personally we give that other person that offends us the power to yank our emotions around. We allow them to turn up our anger or fear meter. We allow them the control over our feelings.

Nothing other people do you can control. What others say and do is their own thing, in their own version of reality. How much or how little you buy into whatever they're pushing is up to you.

You can either run around like your hair is on fire, giving your power away to every person you meet, or simply observe, compare, contemplate and refute.

Ever notice how crappy you feel after someone complains to you? They're literally dumping their crap off onto you. They feel better now because you're the one left holding it. Don't hold other people's crap! People need to learn how to properly dispose of their crap! Hint: it's not onto other people!
