I just read this letter by Brian Eno (artist, musical innovator, record producer for artists ranging from David Bowie to U2 and Coldplay) It was originally published in August 2014, He calls it "Brian Eno’s letter to America: WHY? I just don’t get it"

Today I saw a picture of a weeping Palestinian man holding a plastic carrier bag of meat. It was his son. He’d been shredded (the hospital’s word) by an Israeli missile attack – apparently using their fab new weapon, flechette bombs. You probably know what those are – hundreds of small steel darts packed around explosive which tear the flesh off humans. The boy was Mohammed Khalaf al-Nawasra. He was 4 years old.

I've been a fan of Brian's since way back in the Roxy Music Days, I found the letter to be well written and to the point about "Peace Process" between Israel and the Palestinians, with first hand experience.

As for the Peace Process: Israel wants the Process but not the Peace. While ‘the process’ is going on the settlers continue grabbing land and building their settlements… and then when the Palestinians finally erupt with their pathetic fireworks they get hammered and shredded with state-of-the-art missiles and depleted uranium shells because Israel ‘has a right to defend itself’ ( whereas Palestine clearly doesn’t). And the settler militias are always happy to lend a fist or rip up someone’s olive grove while the army looks the other way.

You can read the entire letter here It is short.

I saw something similar in 2001.

Ahlam Tamimi, who was charged as an accomplice, scouted for a target before leading Izz al-Din Shuheil al-Masri, the suicide bomber, to the Sbarro restaurant. They arrived just before 2:00 pm, when the restaurant was filled with customers, "dozens of women, children and babies"and pedestrian traffic outside was at its peak. Tamimi departed before Al-Masri, thought to be carrying a rigged guitar case or wearing an explosive belt weighing 5 to 10 kilograms, containing explosives, nails, nuts and bolts, detonated his bomb.[3]

Just a reminder both sides have a long and bloody history and they both need to apply peaceful tactics .

Horrible. These new weapons aren't being designed to kill terrorists but palestinian citizens.

You wonder why? You wonder why the Main Stream American Media doesnt' carry it.

One of the best Armies in the world with incredible technological abilites with one of the best spy agencies in the world and they feel the need to kill children. Way to go Israel. Great country.

Neither side is blameless in this situation, yet even on a forum fighting via words will ensue. Doesn't spell well for peace any time soon I guess.

People are starting to despise the Israeli BS now. I hope it doesn't take much longer until the world stops them from complete genocide of the Palestinians. I've lost all words to describe the Zionist Jews.....it's crazy they think they're in the right when the entire world has told them no. Who the hell are they to take away livelyhood and demolish homes for their perfect land? Pieces of crap if you ask me. The world saved the Jews from the nazis and now they start on the same nazi path of taking and changing what they see fit. Pathetic. We're all humans the only difference is evil and good.

How can you compare what one side does to the other in the Palestine, it's nowhere near tit for tat...Hamas's retaliations dont even come close to the destruction Israel rains down on these peaceful peoples. Israel wont be happy until they have pushed the Arab into the sea.

of course it's a War:

a War of extermination of an entire People.

Unfortunately, in this "WAR", only one people haves all the "weapons"!

Yes it is a war... A war against freedom.

What exactly was Hamas " retaliating " for? Was it even Hamas, since it didn't happen in Gaza?

"The house of war" got it's name for a reason - they are the formidable experts in all things human death and just like automobile companies they bring out better ship year after year after year.

and no, I did not get the US and Israel confused in regards to that nickname.

Reads like a propaganda piece. Flechette rounds have been around since WWI and are an evolution of grapeshot used previously. Not a new invention.

Bombs loaded with fragments have been around since 1787 when Henry Shrapnel first demonstrated it's effectiveness at Gibraltar.

There are many more examples. Palestinian terrorists will do anything to maximise the civilian casualty count.
These are some of them:

Nail bomber kills three in Israeli market.
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat came under renewed pressure last night to rein in militant groups after a suicide bomber killed three Israelis and injured more than 50 in the coastal city of Netanya. The attack was launched in an outdoor vegetable and fruit market where the bomber blew himself up between the rows of stalls. After the explosion a large, angry crowd gathered at the scene, some chanting: "Death to the Arabs."
Police said the Palestinian terrorist was wearing an Israeli army uniform and had a bomb, packed with nails and bolts, strapped to his waist. Medical workers said at least one person was in critical condition and 10 were in a serious condition.

The Afula Bus suicide bombing attack was planned by Hamas chief bombmaker Yahya Ayyash, who began to plan suicide bombings within Israel in 1992. Ayyash rigged a 1987 Opel Ascona with seven gas cylinders, five anti-personal hand grenades, and wrapped the bomb in a rucksack containing 1,100 carpenter nails.
Source

In 1994, Hani Abed, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative, brokered an alliance between Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. (Hani was later assassinated by Israel). As part of the alliance, Hamas's chief bombmaker, Yahya Ayyash, built the three bombs used by Islamic Jihad for the Beit Lid suicide attack. Each was made using plumber's pipe (one foot long and eight inches (203 mm) wide) and five kilograms of military-grade TNT, surrounded by nails. On 22 January 1995, at approximately 9:30 am, a Palestinian suicide bomber, disguised as an Israeli soldier, approached the bus stop at the Beit Lid junction in central Israel. The bus stop was full of Israeli soldiers who were on their way to their bases after their weekend vacation. The suicide bomber walked into the crowd and detonated the hidden explosives belt he was wearing. About three minutes later a second suicide bomber exploded at the same spot, killing and injuring people wounded in the first explosion, as well as bystanders who had rushed to the scene to assist the victims of the first explosion.

2001 28 March: Three people killed and several others severely injured in a nail bomb attack near a bus stop close to the central Israeli town of Kfar Saba. Hamas admits responsibility. G Mar 28, 2001 - Two teenagers were killed and four injured, one critically, in a suicide bombing at the Mifgash Hashalom ("peace stop") gas station several hundred meters from an IDF roadblock near the entrance to Kalkilya, east of Kfar Saba. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
Source

Mar 4, 1996 - A suicide bomber detonated a 20-kilogram nail bomb outside Dizengoff Center in Tel-Aviv, killing 12 civilians and one soldier.

No surprise here, this is the way of islamic jihad. Kill as many as possible.
The fact that the IDF uses the same barbaric tactic is unfortunate and shameful. I'm sure there are ways to kill the terrorists without wiping out everything around.
As for the letter, this guy is sincere but very naive. I respect his care for human life, but his view of the situation is one sided and very poorly informed.

«In 1948, the state of Israel was established by methodically dispossessing and ethnically cleansing more than 750,000 native Palestinian people in order to create an exclusivist Jewish state.

To this day, Israel has denied Palestinian refugees, currently exceeding more than 7 million people, their internationally recognized right to return to their homes.

Israel continues unabated and with impunity with its colonial and apartheid designs to further dispossess, oppress, and ultimately ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their homeland and still on a daily basis, they expel native Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem and the Negev.

One of those "villains" is the consequence of the perpetuating actions of oppression, siege, occupation and murder from the other "Villain". It's time to stop it and correct it.
