hello ATS

Today I finally bit the bullet and signed up. I've been lurking for over 5 years (silently judging) I hope to become a valued member. I'm from Scotland and in my late 30s, I'd like to think I have a logical mind and can contribute enough to make life interesting.

What do I have to offer here you may ask, I've been in the computer industry as an engineer for over 16 years and specialise in embedded solutions for military and medical systems, I've had input in some pretty advanced systems in some very famous aircraft and submarines and high tech scanning and visual equipment for the medical industry. I've worked with some of the biggest electronic companies on the planet and can provide an insiders view on these things.

In my spare time computing was still the go to but as I had the knowledge and the tools at hand I gradually got in to the dark side of the net, before long I was an integral part of the scene operations and have insider knowledge on how the illegal side of the net operates. this was 5 years ago I've since hung up my black hat and become a game nerd, so much less stress.

So I hope this qualifies me as useful in answering in at least some topics, any questions you have about my introduction I will answer truthfully I have no love for the secret side of the web or the corporations I was once part of and will hold nothing back.

Welcome! It's a big leap to go from the background to posting. It's a blast. But, saying be gentle in the title probably already painted a target on your back. I'm sure 5 years of lurking here has shown you enough to explain why.

Thank you watched and noted, I giggled.

Scotland eh? Clever dude eh? Do you think the Dounreay shaft may have been created as a deliberate dirty bomb, what with the drums of sodium at the bottom and 1,500 tons of barely documented, highly radioactive trash dumped on top? Oh, gentle, whoops, sorry, errr... hi!.. and... Welcome!

Welcome and my only regret is that I can't actually hear you talking. (I adore the accent.)

See ya around the forums!

@kester I would not put it past the military to save cash in this manner, not sure about deliberate dirty bomb but in saying this stupidity can seem like deliberate acts to the enlightened mind.

Welcome to the show and we look forward to seeing you on the forums!

Sounds like you have a very deep understanding of computer engineering - your knowledge and experiences will definitely be an asset in many different discussions. Thanks for introducing yourself and coming on board with all us other whackos here at ATS
we will never have enough anyway - ATS: the place where many can find their voice (and nearly all experience times of utter frustration and facepalms)

Welcome Siris, look forward to seeing you on the Boards. It sounds like you will fit in just fine. Sounds like you have had a very interesting career, may we pry for more knowledge of what you have been doing over the last few years?

Thank you for all the warm welcomes and by all means ask away, the last projects I worked on were 3d imaging technology for nuclear submarines using £80,000 graphic systems, and the abb bailey relay systems used in long range bombers and mid air command centres. They use them in normal charter planes now.

The submarine stuff was for scientific Atlanta but we were commissioned to build by Cisco and the aviation stuff was for general electric.

Welcome to ATS, I'm just south of the Border in West Cumbria, where dragons roam free, Faeries worry sheep and mad taxi drivers run rampant with shotguns......

One final note...BEFORE posting a new thread (in time you will be able to do this), please search the news if it was already posted so you don't look like a fool!

This happened to me a few times as a new member and boy was it embarrassing.

However, I have learned and gained knowledge in so many subjects on here that it totally is/was a worthwhile experience being a member here.

Best of luck to you my friend and look forward to seeing your posts and future threads !
