Romain Jantot was having a flight in his light aircraft unaware he had a stowaway in the wing , until the stowaway , a cat who is the flying club's mascot popped his head into the cockpit to say Hi !
The Moggy must have had the shock of its life .... the look on Romain Jantot's face at 1.00 on the video is an absolute picture

one has to wonder how dilligent the pre-flight inspection of the airframe was - if it missed a cat

I wonder what kind of pre-flight check he did?

When you have all of those open air cables and struts, they require a close check and a shake or two before climbing in.
You will notice also that he rarely seems to scan the air around him for signs of birds, aircraft, etc. He rarely looks anywhere but ahead.

And no helmets!

No it was absolutely not, it was an ultra-Light. It's obvious it was not what you found..

Ultra-lights look more like a kite/hang-gliders with a speed boat engines.

Hmmmmm...The pic you posted is most definitely looks like that of Cessna 150 / 172...i know this, because I used to fly 'co-pilot' in one similar to the one in pic, ( Piper Colt )multiple times, & once from Vancouver WA to northern CA on a day trip...

So, IF you are saying that the plane in the pic is an Ultra-Light ...you're wrong....just say'n ...

Simple enough Komodo , the picture I posted is of a Skyranger ultralight aircraft which is the type of plane Mr Jantot was flying in the video.
Now , should you not believe that here is some proof.

Picture of a gentleman flying his Skyranger ultralight aircraft , I've circled the place the cat was ... although it was on the other side.
