Wow. I must say I've gained more respect for him myself, especially from where he is coming from. He is 100% right though. Justice is totally different for whites vs blacks, with blacks overwhelmingly given the raw deal. Anyone who denies this fact has their head up their rectum, or is being willfully ignorant.

I remember two cases, both in Texas, which exemplify the dispairity. Young black kid gets involved with some really bad people, gets involved in a robbery, something happens, kid freaks out, shoots and kills the gas station clerk. He gets the death penalty. By contrast, white guy, "all American good ol' boy", high school football star/quarterback, the town's golden sun, brutally murders his pregnant wife he had been abusing for some time because he didn't want her or the baby anymore, and wanted to go back to screwing bimbos left and right. His fate? 15 year sentence.

In Lousiana, either you pay (money), or you stay. How about that fellow citizens? They have the highest incarcation rate in the "Nation".
Check out the 2nd and 3rd rated places.
Pay or you stay. You are effed if you end up in jail for any stupid trumped up charges.

Welcome to the new U.S.A.

Seems to be three tiers of justice today with many black people getting the hardest with white people swinging into being made an example of and doing even worse, or getting lighter treatment and then the third tier consisting hof politicians and elite getting none because they are never prosecuted in the first place for crimes which far exceed whatever the public get up to!

In the UK if you have the situation where you have a right to sue the police for false arrest you need to put £6,000 down just to get your face in court regardless of whatever colour you are.

Justice/law is out of control and not serving its purpose for many people either side of the pond. The law isn't adaptable always to what is morally right under the circumstances that are being judged - so its flawed and something needs to be done to give it the respect that has drained away from what should be one of our most civilised processes.

The black/white situation not only comes from attitude towards the police and poverty, but the preconceived ideas of those operating the legal process.

I agree with you, Abe, as I often do. Anything less than equal justice for all is unacceptable. You can't believe in the Constitution of this country and not be for equality for all of its citizens.

Rand is on my short list of people I would vote for in 2016.

At least Rand isn't a total sissy & isn't afraid to speak his mind about this stuff. Shoving it under the rug doesn't fix anything. There IS a huge divide between the "justice" black people get in the courts, and people of any other color. It's not black & white at this point, it's just black & everybody else. Everybody else tends to get far more lenient sentencing for the same crimes, and that's just wrong.

Whatever the other POTUS candidates say (and how, for that matter) is up to them. Either we see through a line of bull & some people running are going to be seen as lower than dirt (more than they already are) or some surprise us by having some semblance of a soul in there somewhere.

No, it is called empathy, something that is becoming a rare trait in our sociopathic, hate filled society.

I believe this is called white guilt.

No, it's called honor, integrity and courage to address REAL problems facing American society.

It's called pandering for votes in a packed race.
He hit up the Sharptonites and pot smokers all in one sound bite.

The people you claim he's pandering to don't vote republican, so maybe, just maybe, he's being honest about what he sees.

I don't think that you understand what "white guilt" is, then.

I suggest you read this book: "White Guilt: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era" by Shelby Steele. It was written in 2007, but is still relevant.

Rand Paul, talking about how a white kid was driven to suicide because of an often terrible "justice" system and claiming that "white kids don't get the same justice" has nothing to do with white guilt.

If you truly believe this, then you know nothing about the consistency of Rand Paul's message and convictions.

I think you may have misunderstood. The kid driven to suicide was black. Saying "white kids don't get the same justice" means they are treated better than black kids.

White guilt is a slander made up by white racists to condemn other white people who have empathy for the racial injustices of our society.

True, that!

To the OP - I have said before, that if Rand Paul gets the GOP's nomination, I will breathe a big sigh of relief, as he is the least dangerous of the GOP's offering. I like many of his positions and could live with those I disagree with.

My opinion of Rand Paul just went up considerably

Just you wait...Rand will contradict everything he said in your OP at his next speaking engagement. I expect politicians to speak out of both sides of their mouth from time to time; Rand does it regularly. This tells me one thing: Rand is only interested in power; not in finding solutions to real problems.

I've had my eye on Rand since his father retired. He says some outstandingly good things. He's done some great things in the Senate too. Too bad many of his opinions aren't popular among the establishment, so he'll never be President, just like his dad. BUT if there is a GOP candidate I'd vote for, it would be him.

That's because Rand appears to understand what the words "equality" and "freedom" actually mean instead of just using them as buzzwords to beat people over the head with to get a vote.

“Am I saying they did nothing wrong and it’s all racism? No,” Paul said. “What I am telling you is that white kids don’t get the same justice.”

Color has very little to do with it , Money is the key to freedom.

a $500 dollar an hour attorney with connections in the system is going to likely get you off before a $50 an hour newbie court appointed defense attorney.

True racism comes in the color green.

Rand Paul is the Senator who recently filibustered (for 12 hours) the renewal of the Patriot Act provision that legalized the NSA bulk data collection program, and succeeded. That's someone who stands by his words if I ever saw it.

Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut.

I'll just leave this here; a small sampling of Rand's contradictory statements...just a sampling. There is plenty more out there if one was inclined to look for it.

'Stand with Rand' Paul? But where, exactly?

Did you see where he said we have to pass Obamatrade to find out what's in it?

Saw that this morning and lost a bit of respect for the man.

He might not get elected - or even get the nomination - but anything that raises the bar would be welcome

He's not my guy, I disagree with him on a lot of things. But, he's got enough credibility to force the conversation into some dangerous territory for the GOP - and even the Dems. We all could benefit from that
