Three attackers attempted to get passed security checks at the popular tourist site , two were shot by guards and one managed to get passed the barrier and detonate his bomb , reports that four bystanders were injured but no news yet as to whether they are tourists or not.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but jihadist militants have killed hundreds of security forces and government personnel since the military overthrew President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
Last week, two members of Egypt's tourism and antiquities police force were shot dead on a road near the pyramids at Giza.

One could view this as sacrificing themselves to the King of the Gods, or just more ISIS tomfoolery. Oh wait, there's that egyptian god reference we all know isnt accurate yet use anyway.

On a slightly more serious note:
The motivation here seem odd to me. We know IS and other groups like to sell antiquities but what good would blowing yourself up accomplish in that? Aside from increased scrutiny and security, lets be honest, its Egypt. It's not like there isnt the expectation of terrorism anyway. They have like a 90% loss in tourism don't they?

This isn't the first attack at Luxor (or in Egypt).. They've had a problem with radical Islamists going back years and it's only got worse with the rise of IS, the Muslim Brotherhood and the revolution from a few years back.
