Best ever nominee, if context is taken into account. See how many faces you can find in this cloud, including a full top half of the Goddess of Liberty (hint for the goddess:lower right-hand corner).

Here's a test:
A simple face until you look closer. The difference between illusions and Pareidolia is the illusion is designed to be seen where as Pareidolia is not.

Yeah....someone here has an avatar of that first one. Seems I recall that one was made by an artist though, not naturally occurring.
That second one I have always loved.....great moment to capture a pic!

This has always been one of my favorites....I remember seeing it on ATS a while back:
So.....yeah....let that one haunt you for a while.....
Sure, that is an illusion that was made to look like that. Pareidolia is when it is not made to look that way like the pic I posted....yet you still see what appears to be something else.

That's because it was made blatantly obvious what the 'hidden face' is. Pareidolia is seeing something in nothing, not seeing the face of jesus in a painting or photo that was obviously put there.

A favorite topic of mine, although, sadly, we often get into some heated discussion as the CGI/photoshop crowd and the pareidolia group trade barbs trying to prove one another 'wrong'. I stopped arguing about 'authenticity' and 'validity' about this some years ago, when a few unmentionable members here, some of whom for which I have deep respect, started posting tons of Mars and Moon pictures with all manner of 'found' objects in them, and the conversation quickly degenerated into a 3-way pissing-match among CGI/photoshopers/ the pareidolia-types, and the "REAL-thing" groupies.
Truthfully, these days, it's hard to tell what's been 'doctored' or enhanced and what is 'as-you-would-see-it', but it's still fun and intriguing, and if nothing else, gives us a bit of insight into how the human mind works.
