Dolan has been a respected pillar of the UFO community for a long time and all of this seems so weird to me. I honestly feel like they must have concealed something from him when presenting it. Like the plaque for instance. They must have held that information from him, not allowing him to analyze it or even see it. In other words, Mr Dolan wasn't given every piece of information and he was fooled I bet. I cannot see Richard Dolan taking this all in hook, line and sinker like this.

Anyway, I hope that this doesn't damage Dolan's credibility because I respect the man and I love his work and opinions on the UFO subject.

What are the general thoughts of ATS about this particular situation with Dolan?

You could consider, on a lark given you love for his work, consider that while Dolan has made a name for himself in the chaotic field of UFO reporting--I won't say "researching" or "studies," he may be working for the other side in shaping the historical revisionism of the phenomena to better suit the government's position once the cover finally comes off and eventually it must.

I think he's just as guilty and as much of a charlatain as anyone else. But that's just my opinion....

there has been nothing of note ufo related for about 5 years in the news

so this is really it?

reporting on 70 year old cases? rehashed again and again?

must be clutching at straws

I used to think the same about Dolan until the moment when he and some of the same group went high wire on the idea of the ufo underneath Giza pyramid and how it would materialize from another dimension. That's when I lost not only respect (obviously the materialization never happened) but also started doubting everything he ever said on UFO matters. I remember trying to communicate with him via e-mail about the whole ufo from another dimension thingy and I recall getting a reply that was absolutely a reply but a words play. Things like that have made ufo subject laughable such as it is today. Agenda or not, I don't know. All I know is that the majority of the so called researchers at one point in time have said and done things that have hurt not just the acceptance of the phenomena but the whole ufo community.

For the record, UFO's being inter-dimensional isn't anything new. John Keel and Jacques Vallée were the creators of that idea. People piggybacking off of others ideas in the UFO field is also nothing new.....

Ive enjoyed reading some of his articles on his website, but

Dolan can be out there sometimes, I just dont get the 9/11 conspiracy at all, there is no doubt he is convinced. Either way, I think he is a good researcher, anything he brings to light can be judged on its own merits.

As far as the slides, maybe he didnt have anything else better to do and was just curious, I dont know, I never considered this thing a big deal to begin with. Was anyone really looking forward to the slide release? I mean we all knew it was going to be fake, lo and behold, its fake...

You should all have a bit more respect for Richard Dolan. You really do not know what you are talking about.

One simple question.

Was Richard Dolan paid for his role in this?

Yes.

"But not much", he said on C2C.

Its too big of a risk no matter how much it was (but it probably wasn't much) due to risking the chance of having his nose dragged into the mud and chastised and have all credibility shot. He risked losing his Ufologist card so to speak by doing this. Its why I think he didn't do it knowing it was a sham and instead he had the wool pulled over his eyes. Besides, i'm sure he makes much more money elsewhere (UFO books, other UFO conferences etc and hell, he owns Richard Dolan press too which publishes many other UFO books by various authors and not to mention, Television appearances on Hangar 1 and other UFO shows) - Why risk it all for a one time footnoted sham like this? This is small potatoes. Richard Dolan is a big fish in the UFO pond so to speak. Something like this is below him. Its why I cannot see him doing this on purpose.

Lets face it, once a Ufologist has been called out for being a hoaxer and a sham, their name disappears forever from the overall UFO community and subject all together (Hello Philip J. Imbrogno for example) - I just cannot see Richard Dolan being put into that same light by knowingly participating in a sham like this. He has WAY too much to lose.

I'm very well aware of the idea as I've been researching on the subject for over 2 decades. Is not the idea that I find outrageous. My comment related to the claim Dolan and some other guys made years back about making the ufo appear for the whole world to see.

Greetings.

I agree with Blackout, Dolan has been a respected personality within the community of UFO researchers and I too hope this doesn't damage that.

The more I hear/see/read, the more certain I am that this "community" is also afflicted by envy, ego, personal agendas...and intrigue. In some "circles", I was told days ago, the word is that a few people used Jaime M. to get to Dolan and others. Reason seems to be same old envy and a grudge (it's not difficult to see that how he thinks in regards to disclosure - mirrors my own thoughts and those of many I talk to - goes against the orientation of the crowd behind what I call "hopeful disclosure").

This incident (Roswell Slides) should serve as (yet another) eye opener to people I hugely respect (Chase K., Dolan, Friedman et al), on one hand, and a reminder of the need to have standards and proper procedures. Not everyone is fit to be a researcher, not everyone is equipped with both the knowledge and life experience for it, and only a few are fit to show the way by example.

This incident is a blow for the community of researchers (yes, we've had many blows, many red-herrings and yet we're still here...sure), but hopefully something good may come out of it - shaking the status quo, for one, and the renewed need for better processes and credibility. I hope Dolan isn't affected by this, as he does not deserve it.

My 2 cents.

I think you are right OP.
Dolan is a pillar and I doubt he bought the slides
as authentic. I'm not sure what's happening here
but I do know he occasionally checks ATS out so
maybe we'll get to hear from him personally or have
better clarification on his site about how he feels.
I believe I heard an interview by A Rojas with him
and he was not on board the Alien photo train.

UFOlogy, believe it or not, has become somewhat mundane.

Anticlimactic indeed…nothing new or breathtaking has come of it after all the expectations.

Just one odd story after another…one possibility after another but nothing real, nothing substantial and unfortunately some hoaxes now and then.

No apocalypse, no mass revelation, no saviors, no real exciting possibilities of them doing mass healing or mass anything as of yet.

Indeed it has all become mundane and now when I see a report of a UFO I just wait to read about the same tale of lights in the sky, usually at Night.

So what has all this UFO craze done and what will be the great revelation in days ahead as many Ufologists such as Dolan seem to herald?

I could recall years ago on a forum a devout Buddhist announced, to the probably alien intervention over the 2012 craze, something that made sense, he said, to paraphrase:

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other what these aliens do, I am still seeking enlightenment.

In other words carry on with your life but beware.
Since now that the AlienUFO phenomena has become ordinary, in the context of the extraordinary, it may be that is the time for them to strike...when we least expect it

Time for some real reality

One never knows does one

Whereas I understand the want to give Dolan a break on this, I cannot. But that's just me. I've given Dolan breaks before, but that's over now. When he bought into Stan Romanek and his alien through the window hoax, I gave him a pass. When he bought into the dying ex-CIA guy in a nursing home fairy tale about Ike threatening to send the 3rd Army to Roswell, I gave him a pass. For some inexplicable reason, I even gave him a pass when he continued to support Romanek even after Romanek was arrested on child porn charges .

I guess this is the proverbial straw here, for me at least. I have no doubt Dolan will keep on keeping on. But, it's my right to call b.s., and I'm tired of being sold this garbage. I mean, the guy acts like he was pushed onto that stage in Mexico City. Not saying he did anything fraudulent. I am saying it was dumb as hell to not get his facts straight before endorsing the slides. And when he took a fee, accepted the travel perks and presented on that stage, he in fact was indeed endorsing those slides.

My tolerance for people doing dumb foolish things in this field has reached zero. I believe in the phenomenon. I also believe this field deserves better. Just my opinion.
