I have read that there are black bears in central Ohio, but I have never seen one. I don't know anyone who has, either.

This pile was about twenty feet from the house. I have never seen anything like it, and I grew up here and have visited here every year since.

Looks like what I have seen from bears.

Maybe just ate something out of a trash can that didn't come out looking all that pretty

Little big for a coon no?

That pile looks rather large, maybe the picture is deceiving

Looks like cleaned out drains. Maybe cleaned out tanks of a ship-going vessel?

Glad I already had dinner.
I can't make out any fur or bone in there...looks like mostly swamp vegetation.
Sorry to be gross...but it might be vomit.

Definitely too large for coon or coyote.

The bird feeder, hanging about 4 feet from the ground, is untouched.

I'm leaning toward bear, although I will point out we had a lot of bigfoot sightings around here in the 80s.

Probably not from a bigfoot, aren't they supposed to be intelligent and able to build shelters and such, they would have used their outhouse.

Probably a bear though as the scat I have seen up here in the Northwest is similar, I am at a loss as to what the brown reed-ish looking stuff is. Could be swamp plants or berry bush branches I suppose.

I found some in my yard once that looked similar.
It's bear poop.

Caver - you know your sh_ _. !
Good call, I tend to agree.
Those could be crayfish bits but look more like some type of tree buds which is common forage this time of year.
Bear scats tend to be more piles than raccoons so I'm going with bear.

Btw: this has been a record year for bears coming down and feeding in lower areas. One of our mods counted around 50 during a 1 week stay in the Smokies.

I think that might just be bear poop. That answers the age old question. Seriously though, I see bear poo when I go off in the woods. That looks like it. It also looks like what you get when you unclog drains. Hmm. Nope bear poop. Be careful and keep an eye out.

It looks as if he/she has been eating tooooooo many berries!

Not sure what that light brown looking stuff is...
some sort of nut?

Anyway, looks like a bigun! Be careful!

Looks like bear poop to me.
Have seen a lot of it in Alaska.

Usually it is full of berries and stuff like that.
Almost looks like this one was eating garbage.

Did a quick search, and came up with similar:

Here's a question -- have you ever wondered what bear poop, or scat, looks like? If you've never been around bears, you probably have no idea unless you've looked it up. Rick and I took a 3 mile hike today around the mountain behind our house and we came across this pile of scat. I'm pretty sure it is black bear poop, especially with all the seeds and berries. It was pretty big, too -- probably about the circumference of a cantaloupe
