What do we have ET would want? I can think of nothing extraordinary.

I could see some intelligent civ sending a probe ... but a biological entity?

Nope. No buy-in from Snarl.

I could imagine a scenario where Earth is similar to the aliens' world -- i.e., similar gravity, atmospheric gasses, temperature, radiation levels, etc. -- and maybe planets that match up so well to their own are so rare among the part of the universe to where they are able easily travel that when they DO find one, they would wish to colonize it.

I find this unlikely. Scientists are discovering more and more planets in the Goldilocks Zone of various stars all the time. Not all of them are likely to be inhabited. In fact, it is becoming increasingly likely that there are planets circling almost every star.

Picking the ONE planet out of all the possible ones that happens to be inhabited for its resources seems disingenuous.

Godilocks zone is one thing. Having extremely similar gravity, atmosphere, radiation levels, temperatures, and day-night cycles are a different thing altogether.

For example, some definitions of our solar system's "goldilocks"/habitable zone includes Venus and Mars. But while exoplanets that, when detected from afar and are seen as rocky planets similar to Venus or Mars, could technically be considered by our astronomers to be "Earth-like", that does not really make them "just like Earth".

The current definition of "Earth-like planet" used by planet-hunting scientists today does not necessarily mean planets that are Earth analogs. It simply means they are rocky worlds that fall within an orbit from their star where liquid water may be able to exist. Like I said, Venus and Mars when detected from 200 LY away would be considered Earth-like using today's definition.

Plus, we may not be talking about an entire galaxy of planet from which the aliens could choose. Maybe they have only a limited method of interstellar travel that allows them to only be able to visit -- say -- one quarter of the galaxy very easily. That may make planets that are Earth-analogs (matching all of the same characteristics of Earth that I mentioned above) a very rare find.

Whoa, you just lost all credibility....I don't think you have ever been to the "Land of Enchantment"

No the craphole would be Texas. New Mexico is paradise with a classy tolerant, multiracial populace and enchanting landscapes.

As a native Texan; I know what I'm talking about.

Where do you live that you feel you can denigrate other states?

I was just joking...Spent many Summers at the track in Ruidosa.

If the Internet was never invented, nor the television, people wouldn't be fed these bull# concepts and believe them. It's that simple.

As for Sitchin; I belive he misinterpreted the writings of an alien (or not) species enslaving and mining us for gold. There are trillions of planets out there with gold deposits, I doubt it's native to earth..

Me belives this so called gold operation; was the gold of our souls. A species came to enslave us and energetically and vampirically leeching our internal energies.

Hence most of these gods in much later religions demand and command a lot, especially for us to multiply like rabbits = more internal energy.

Which brings to thought the entire "soul harvesting" concept; which wouldn't be seen with the eye balls rather a paralell space.

For instance; the majority of "space" is empty to our eyes, our eyes which are in fact limited to a specific light spectrum. Thst other 95% dark matter/energy, I belive to have matter on a sense; in another spectrum that is obviously invisible within this spectrum.

A leap for sure lol; but if gold was so important why didn't they take it all and take off, if indeed we were nothing but genetical slaves to them. . . We have a lot of gold and precious sources on Earth, they must of been sh*ty harvesters of gold!

Sitchins work never stood right to me; I always felt the Sumerians (sum Arians) history was misunderstood.

If ET comes back, and claims the dominion I'm god card again; be sure as hell I'll be up in arms

I did say that I find it unlikely. You could be correct, but the way I see it, it would be MUCH easier to colonize space itself with space stations that you can place in orbit around various stars then use the neighboring planetoids to mine for resources.

Think about it from humans' point of view. Humans have spent the entire timespan that society has existed trying to get away from or reduce the influences of nature on society. If we were to ever escape this planet, why do you think we'd seek out a new planet with life on it to colonize when a dead one or space itself would be much easier to colonize?

I agree it's unlikely, but I was just answering the question 'What do we have that any alien could possibly want".

My answer is "Earth itself".

We're seriously just not ready for first contact. Not until the following few questions are answered:

1. When a space faring, Extraterrestrial race arrives on Earth, who should they contact with? What is humanity as a whole? Should they summon the world leaders and meet them all at once? Or simply meeting with the United Nations only?

Either way, when it is done incorrectly, it could spark an all out international warfare quickly.

Say, the Aliens establish contact with the U.S. government first... I'm pretty sure other countries would flip out.

I'm really not all for a NWO, but until we have a united world governing body, it's hard for Aliens to come make contact.

2. This one, ties in with #1. Not only we need a world governing body, we need to have policies and rules of engagement setup in place, agreed upon and set forth by this organization, so that when Aliens lands or crash lands on Earth, there are proper procedures in place to receive them.

I mean, tell me what happens if an Alien space ship enters the Earth atmosphere right now. When their ship crash lands on a certain continent, do they automatically become that country's property? Or should the salvage be retrieved or the rescue monitored by this world organization?

My point is, we're so divided right now among ourselves, black/white/asian/hispanic, so many different races, so many different countries, so many different governing bodies, so much cultural gap as it is... We need to unite first, otherwise in my opinion, we are not ready to deal with another space faring race that already achieved a Type II or Type III civilization.

My answer would be "knowledge". The way I see things, once you break the space barrier, there are no more limits to space, no more limits on resources, no more need for competition, except for ONE thing. Knowledge. Knowledge is indeed power though. It always has been.

I'm going to assume that knowledge, like all things that follow evolutionary patterns, arises haphazardly depending on the needs and if they fit in the society that thought them up. This could mean that a low tech race could potentially come up with knowledge that a space faring race hadn't thought of yet.

For example: When the Europeans came to the new world, they didn't know how to fertilize the ground. The Natives showed them how so that they could grow food for the winters and not starve to death.

We are a product of survival of the fittest filled with violence tendencies and the mentality for herding."

We really don't fit too well on this planet if you really think about..

Sure we do, as does all other earth organisms.

Biologically, the current life on Earth is fine-tuned to living on Earth with its current conditions.

Okay, now SLAYER69,

Why on earth (pun intended) would they want to use fallible, breakable, HUMANS to do the dirty work of stripping gold out of mines when they could use their advance technology to get ROBOTS to do it for them? And why here? There are no dusty, uninhabited planets or asteroids out there filled with the gleaming stuff? They had to come to our little backwater and convince/create violent meat-suits to dig it out for them? Not very efficient. I would question their sanity and good judgement on that one.

As to the alien war immortalized in woodblock - that is a cool theory, and maybe there are some good guys vs bad guys out there in the galaxy, duking it out for who gets to be Supreme Leader. Or...??? How many accounts of this "near invasion" survive? Wouldn't there be giant pieces of fallen ships or other artifacts? Did the Vatican just swoop in and take them all?? Could it have been mass hysteria plus natural phenomenon? OR it was an alien armada caught in an accident when they all jumped into our space at the same time by mistake and were crashing into each other. OR it was the future destruction of mankind by AI being played out as a movie for our ancestors OR...yeah, I could go on. Sorry.

Roswell...the poor little guys.

They need seat belts and ejection pods. What are they thinking? Maybe that was a group of teenagers that stole the saucer for a wild night of dive-bombing the humans...oops! Too much grog before flying is dangerous!

So, aliens may not be here to save us, but they may not be here to destroy us either. Maybe they are hoping we grow up and learn how to communicate with them beyond grunts and gestures and screaming and such. Maybe they are scientists taking their classes to see the zoo animals. Exozoology classes - now there's a reason to worry. "Tag them and check their bacterial colony health!"

(Sorry - I'm feeling really sick and my two boys are also - so I'm just having a bit of fun to make the headache pound a little less, though I do cough if I laugh...Fun thread!)

peace,
AB

A few decades ago at a UFO convention I bluntly made a statement that ETs are in fact dumber then us. I still believe this to be true. Sure their technology is more advanced then what we have now, but only in some respects. Abductees where still reporting invasive medical procedures being conducted on them, while we sad little earthlings had MRIs. Even the earlier reports of "probing" took place while had ultra sound. If a person takes what our medieval ancestors painted, ETs still used the saucer shaped craft. The now classic tri-angle ships didn't appear until after we created the Delta wing jet design (Yes even if we conclude that most of the black triangle crafts are earth built, there are still some reports that come in that show an ET basis for some)

ET is dumb. The main point of my argument is that because they probably evolved naturally, they don't understand/or can't understand the need to innovate. Even if we remove the argument of alien gene tampering in our DNA, we still have to accept that we exist here as a fluke of nature. A set of circumstances killed off the dominate species (the dinosaurs), and allowed mammals to populate the earth without getting to eaten. This strange event may not have happened on these alien worlds, so ETs need to adapt to disparity may never have been a factor in their evolution. No need to adapt means less of a need to innovate.

I fully believe that most if not all ETs fear us because of this trait. Think about it.....

We can take they technology adapt it to our use, and improve upon it making it better then what they have. All in a very short period of time, while the same tech may have taken them generations to develop.

And for those people who want to say ETs are just demons, and point to the bible as fact. Lets look at it like this;
"why put a tree in a garden that the inhabitance are not able to eat? Not because it's poisonous, but rather because it makes them think?"

Yep, that's smart.

Put me in the variety is the spice of life camp, as I think there are just as many good aliens out there as there are bad aliens out there. This is why I think we should be cautious when it comes to reaching out to try to contact aliens. I was just reading the other day a story about Paul Hellyer the former Canadian Defence Minister in a story on Open Minds, and he said he believes there are about 81 species that he was aware of, some who have been visiting us, and or some who are here, and that we would not be able to tell the difference between them and us, but, he did say there were some aliens who were not so good.

Like Ezekiel.

Yes, I believe they were in contact with something.
