I don't get people... I think its because it was a beach.. but I have taken my kids to the beach many times.. to me, this is like going to the McDonalds playground and screwing. or going and doing it at applebees when families with kids are present..

would they call it a mistake if they had their kids in tow at the grocery store and had to walk by a couple who couldn't wait til they got home?

The mindset of anyone who thinks screwing in a public place is just fine, or that people shouldn't get punished for it is ridiculous!

There is something seriously mentally wrong with anyone who would screw in front of kids!

Absolutely spot on. And good thing this is a public story. Hopefully less inconsiderate people will populate family friendly zones if they plan on doing 18+ activities.

Do so in a nightclub that is full of trashy woman sure, Or at home okay. But not in a public place where the kids have their childhood ruined by inconsiderates!

Well, there is a reason that we are viscerally opposed to seeing the base physical functions of other humans- defecating, eating, sexual activity- generally people are uncomfortable watching others engage in these things.

There is a reason for that. We aren't animals, and we ought not to behave like animals.

Of course, prison time for something so trivial is ridiculous, but I think that's so obvious that it doesn't even need to be said.

Once again, I shake my head in disbelief at the utter nonsensical and illogical actions of a US court system, and those who defend the ridiculousness of sentencing.

15 Years? 15 days would have been considered harsh in most of the civilized world, where it would probably have been a fine and nothing more. But, it's 15 years AND added to the sex offenders register? Seriously? Talk about screwed up!

As for the whole "should have taken the plea deal" nonsense, this is another issue that is laughable in the US "Justice" system. So many times I have seen accounts from people stating they took the plea deal, even though they were not guilty as charged, but did so to get a lighter sentence, as advised by their defence.
As such, the prosecutor gets another notch, the more they get the better it looks on their resume come election time! Also means the revenue increases in fines from plea bargained innocent people just trying to keep out of the corrupt and illogical legal "system". I am sure in this case too the plea deal included several years in jail, but why should people, if they are innocent, be forced to plead to something they didn't do, just to allow the accepted broken system to stay in place?

Also, some seem to think that as he had a prior felony against him and did jail time, he must be some dangerous drug kingpin and society is better off with him in jail. How very judicial of them! Any prior felonies had nothing to do with this case and, knowing how the US system works, the time he spent in jail previously was probably for simple possession, and doesn't make him some machine gun wielding menace to society.

The US is so F****d up already but seems to be getting worse year on year.

Because this is the exact same thing.. people take their kids to the beach to go play, just like they would a McDonalds playground..

This was a family beach.. same as McDonalds has a family area and playground for kids..

If you think its okay to just decide to up and be rutting animals in public in front of other people's kids, then there is something wrong here..

In the end - leave my children and the raising thereof to me, I don't let my kids watch porn.

One time a neighbor from down the road stored by the shop I work at looking for her dog that just ran off. She had her 2 kids with her. When she found the dog, he was under the porch next door banging another dog. The lady's kids asked "Mommy, what are they doing?"

Better sentence those dogs to 15 years in the pound for that lewd behavior in front of innocent children.

You've got to be kidding. Now, show me the kids who saw it--if any of them did--and I might reconsider my judgement. But I say these two lovers should get like a fine or something. Being sex offenders is kinda bad enough considering they weren't like soliciting children to join them or something. They're not criminals--just skanks. How embarrassing. That's punishment enough.

It takes a real special kind of jerk busybody to film two people illegally having sex. Most people would be happy simply telling the authorities. Sounds like the old lady is just jelly school and did it due to her own insecurities and not for any public good. Therefore, I say she should be charged with something. What she did sounds malicious.

Anyway, I agree that it takes a sick person to have sex in front of kids. But the 20 year old is basically still a kid--and I think it's fairly obvious the 40 year old is taking advantage of her. And it was likely the 40 year old's idea. I'm thinking the 20 year old chick is kinda a victim in all of this. She's young and stupid. But she shouldn't be a sex offender. Maybe she needs some counseling or a life coach or something but all of this seems a bit much. Hopefully she has a good lawyer and can do a juvenile diversion program since she's under 25.

I understand that it's inappropriate behavior with children in the vicinity but 15 years and having to register as a sex offender is a tad extreme...

it's only sex after all, it's a perfectly natural, human thing to do.. yes these people used very poor judgment but there is no need to give them such an extreme sentence.... they should have manned up and admitted their guilt instead of lying about it.

i agree that children need to be shielded from certain things but this sends a message that having sex is something to be ashamed of when it isn't... obviously i don't condone their behavior, i just believe that going to these kind of extremes for such petty misdemeanors is the main reason the justice system is completely useless....

we live in a world were people who take liberties with children regularly walk away without conviction, Politicians sleep with prostitutes and bankers steal from their clients without a damn thing being done about it and yet these people are having the book thrown at them for nothing more than getting carried away on a public beach....

They are both idiots for putting themselves in this situation... and surely if they are being prosecuted for the act the person who filmed it should also face criminal charges for some kind of privacy violation, filming without consent... i have no idea what the law says on that regard in Florida but it seems to me whoever did the filming should not be free from prosecution...

i would be interested to know if the prosecuting attorney is up for re-election anytime soon because this stinks of political agenda... just my opinion

By the way what's all this"they could have made a deal" trick? If I'd have been caught doing something that I thought I was innocent of being offered a deal would like being slapped in the face and I would have fought for my innocence.
Yes, I understand if you fight the case it would cost the courts more money but if you are innocent just to offer a deal is a complete travesty of justice.
And by their criteria if found guilty they would increase the fine or sentence, what if you fought the case and proved your innocence you aught to be allowed to claim massive compensation for defamation of your character. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Based on a recent case in Florida, I thought it was also illegal to record someone without consent. Or dose that law only work for the protected groups?

This was my point, the justice system is putting ALL witnesses at risk with sentences like this. We have reached a point, where severely inuring a witness, results in the same level of punishment. Therefore its safe to assume that severely inuring a witnesses will become standard operating procedure among hardened criminals. Heck, cops are operating in a pretty similar way when people film them breaking the law.

Mark my words, one day, hardened criminals are going to start taking names when they get convictions and those witnesses/do-gooders are going to be in a world of hurt for doing what they "thought" was right. Remember we are not dealing with the typical Boomer ex-con or GenX ex-con, we will be dealing with Millenial ex-cons, with a TOTALLY different mentality, ala the Virgina Tech Shooting or the Aurora Shooting. The US government has set up a system where the convicted lose everything, with little chance to repair their reputations. There will be unintended consequences stemming from such policies.
