I'm having trouble posting. My browser crashes trying to use a quote tag so I'll just paste this

Nepal (AP) — A strong earthquake has been felt in Nepal's capital of Kathmandu with some reports of houses being damaged.

There is no immediate word on any casualties.

The quake hit around noon Saturday and was also felt in neighboring India.

What does a level IX mean? Does it indicate fatalities, or maybe building collapses? Kathmandu has so many buildings built right into cliff faces, don't they? I hope and pray that if there are land and rockslides, that they are in unpopulated areas.

It's too early to tell if there are any casualties. I imagine if houses were damaged in a heavily populated area there are injuries we might hear about. It's a very strong quake.

Oh dear that's worrying.

I'm not finding much more news about it right now. My browser is crashing on my iPad. My wifi going in and out too.

This was a big one.
Even we felt it for a couple of mins, and I live approx 1300km from the epicenter.
People are frightened here as don't have many earthquake(s).
Hope everyone is alright.

Ok thank you
I copied this from your link . I'll keep that page open so it refreshes itself

"..... has put all data in his theoretical model and expects in between 1400 and 7500 fatalities. To be trusted shaking intensities are still missing so these numbers are still raw estimates.
Update : reports of collapsed houses in Kathmandu AND Pokhara"

EDIT

" Update : Jens and Carlos who are monitoring local media are reporting huge damage in Pokahara and Kathmandu, both cities are at least 70 km from the epicenter.
Update : Based on theoretical models Dr. James Daniell expect losses to be between $250 and $750 million based on early population and intensity estimates
Update : ER expects a lot of fatalities. How many : too soon to make an estimate. Massive landslides alone can count for many. At least one good thing : the earthquake happened during daylight and in the Nepali spring = less victims
A cruel earthquake happened in the pre-Himalaya ranges of Nepal just in between Kathmandu and Pokara. We expected a lot of devastation and massive landslides

I am in Kolkata. This earthquake felt like something I have never felt before. Most people were on the streets and slowly returning home.Small tremors can still be felt.

Here Election is being held and live coverage of Election was on every news channel.Suddenly studio crews left the building living anchors and guests alone...

There is a feeling of disorientation which I have never felt before...most of my friends and family are reporting the same

I am sensing very small tremors still......Is that normal?

It went for about more than two minutes.I am used to quakes of about 30-40 seconds max....it just kept on going...

It's normal for there to be more tremors and aftershocks yes. Some can be quite big. I'm not sure about the geology of that region on how the plates react . Strong quakes like that can be for minutes instead of seconds.
