My main intent was simply to point out that many Christians do in fact use scripture as the rationale for hateful and ignorant remarks when it's not actually supported by the scripture thus me using and quoting actual passages to support my POV.

You will know them by their works. A Christian will not be hateful, but if they are, they need prayer, not hatred in kind.

Those are my own words. It does say that you will know them by their works I believe, but the rest is well... you will know them by their works.

I don't debate the Bible-only try to learn from it.

To me though, this highlights a very REAL problem with Christianity that no one seems to talk about much.

Whoa-- You took another shot at just Christianity. Why just Christianity? Why not name the other religions who are against the booty pumpers? That shows me the hypocrite that you are. How about Islam who cuts their heads off or orthodox Judaism who killed them in various ways? Why is it your hate for Christianity so overwhelming that it makes you so blind?

I'm actually participating in another thread where I'm dissecting the Islam faith. I just know more about Christianity, but I'm learning about different religions a bit at a time. So don't worry, I'm diversifying.

So God and Jesus are racist and the bible has twisted morality. So in effect what you are saying is that the unnatural filthy, disease ridden act of homosexuality and lesbian practice is moral. That is exactly what you have just reasoned. Then so be it. Nothing more to be said is there?

Lol your bias swings a little heavy when you claim I'm wrong. You only believe it is wrong because of the bible. Though homophobia is only the most recent form of Christian persecution. You reflect your hatred. Jesus would have loved the homosexuals, not condemned them.

There's a difference between hating someone for their beliefs and pointing out their hypocrisy and the fact that they hide behind scripture to mask their own prejudices that would exist whether or not they were of a certain faith.

Thing that our faithful blind friends don't see is that most of atheists and agnostics actually love more human race/people then they do, because we don't care about imaginative difference created by belief and religion.

I care for all humans, even those that don't mean good to me and my family and I am firm believer that if we help them with their life, education and health, world would be much better and safer place.

That is an assumption ... plus you can only speak for yourself

That is a noble viewpoint ...

Yea but your latching onto the passages that are "good" and ignoring the passages that are in no way moral!

Such as where Paul told a slave who (obviously) wasn't happy about being a slave. He told the slave to " obey your master as if it were a sin against Jesus not to."

Or

"Tho shalt not suffer a witch to live" (which was responsible for hundreds of deaths).

The bible is racist and aggressive, because it was written by racist aggressive men just like me and you. (Not you or me specifically being aggressive racists, mankind as a whole).

No, he can speak for all those he knows or has heard say the same. The concept that everyone who doesn't agree with you will be taken and tortured for all eternity, is pretty freaking evil...... Where atheists/agnostics don't believe anyone should have there conciousness kidnapped and tortured for all eternity..

1: Because atheists don't condemn anyone to eternal torture.infact that might be a solely Christian thing.

2: We don't hate people for what they do in the privacy of their own home with concenting adults.

3: Athiests are the ones increasing the global standard of living thru tech. Elon musk, Steve jobs, bill gates, Neil degrasse Tyson (mainly they educational entertainment, exc, exc, exc.

4: Atheists don't require you to convert to give charity. If a poor atheist goes to a church for help paying a utility bill, but is honest about him not going to convert, bet they tell him to kick rocks.

5: atheists don't disown there children for choosing a same sex partner.

6: atheists don't watch there children die from preventable Illness while attempting to faith heal. ( another Christian exclusive.)

7: can't be fooled by politicians just by pretending to me more religious then his opponent.

Personally, atheists and agnostics that I know are way more compassionate than people give them credit for. I also know plenty of compassionate Christians as well. It's really arguing against the stigma that not believing in god makes you less compassionate or have less empathy for others. Randy and others have posted suggesting the OP hates god or Jesus, that he cannot be taken seriously, and that he is dishonest, but none of them have argued against the points he has brought up. They have only argued against the OP himself, which is a bit of a fallacy. This thread got seriously hijacked and thrown off topic from the verses that were being discussed. I do not think it is a coincidence or accident. It was intentionally orchestrated to go down that path and distract from the heart of the matter, which is that if you are to take the bible literally, then you must be a supporter of the violent verses as well as the good ones. You can't be a cherry picker if you are a literalist. Those traits are mutually exclusive.

The conundrum here is this:

Why is it perfectly okay to make posts attacking and bashing science and atheism with ignorance, but the second somebody makes a topic with an honest criticism of some violent / homophobic passages of the bible, they are viewed as an evil heathen god hater by those same people?

If Christianity is supposed to be a religion of peace and empathy, why do so many actively preach that non believers are going to be eternally tortured, and why do so many support war? I still don't understand that, to this day. Ask George Bush, who claimed Jesus spoke to him, about his policy on forgiveness. I didn't see an asterisk in the bible next to thou shalt not kill. Is it really that"true" Christians are just very rare, or is there a lack of understanding as to what makes a true Christian? Do true Christians start a war based on revenge? Did true Christians even exist for the first 1500 years of Christianity?

I feel like this is an interesting question given the way that Christians think that "True Christians" should behave. I feel like it could easily be a thread of its own.

And that's just the morality!! Look at the actual teachings....

Early Christians:

1: had no hell as a fiery place all the unbelievers go.

2: no heaven you went to at death.

3: no disembodied soul

4: a (admittedly well preserved) zombie apocalypse where all the dead rise to fight against any remaining unbelievers.

I'm sure there are loads I'm not thinking of right now.

All Humans are capable of hate and bigotry ...
It is not exclusive to just Christians though the details of those base emotions may vary

That was the point I was making ... All Human Beings are capable of compassion no matter what their belief or not

How compassionate a person is does not need arguing about ... it is proven by one's deeds
Argument is when one person does not listen to what another says ... only wishing to put their way over the other
Argument is not compassion or empathy

My point is that Hatred and Bigotry and not exclusive to Christianity and takes many forms
Hatred and Bigotry can apply to Christian and non Christian alike
